Enough with the jubilee already.

The celebrations haven’t started yet and I’m already fed up with them.
I bought a loaf of bread yesterday and it had a silver crown on it and a jubilee message. When I think of the cost of redesign and printing a new message, it must impact on the price I’m paying.
Then I’ve just seen the itinerary for next week and I’m bemused by the timetable.
There’s a glorious fly past again with 40 planes and helicopters etc. I always remember my husband laughing at previous fly pasts as the UK has such a paucity of planes to do it that some of them were training planes and clapped out aircraft to bulk up the numbers.
I also didn’t realise the bank holidays were Thursday and Friday.
Oh well soon be over and we can have an in depth examination of Meghan and Harry and what they did/didn’t do, who wore what and how much did it cost etc. Ammunition for news articles for months and posts on gransnet.
Bring it on.

Ooh now who's virtue signalling?!

Not those who don’t want to celebrate, that’s up to them.
VS is by all those who, whilst sitting securely on whatever they have (however much or little) rant on about others who, or so they say, are doing the same. Also VS is all those who attempt to spoil other’s enjoyment of the celebration.

However, don’t spoil their enjoyment in doing so.
If you want to stay home or can afford to go away and ignore it. Enjoy that.
If you want to enjoy the celebrations then go ahead and enjoy them.

Spectacularly good. Must be having a little celebration on the quiet.?

I don't think it's virtue signalling Parsley3.

I think it's Stockholm Syndrome.

I had a curry in a real restaurant last night, first time for ages. It's gone to my head wink

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 31-May-22 13:21:55

Is that the only part of you to feel the effects? ?

volver Tue 31-May-22 13:23:06

Chrissyoh Tue 31-May-22 13:23:43

Have another one tonight ?.

nadateturbe Tue 31-May-22 13:26:25

volver very good ? ?

Interesting info from Grany
Unbelievable that the queen's income was topped up.
And apparently, if I have understood correctly, it has been done by increasing the sovereign grant, so can't be reduced again unlike universal credit.

Despite the shocking rainfall, in between the deluged OH and I have been putting bunting up outside. It is very secure and looks very good. I still have some more to put up in the back garden but OH is watching a baseball match and I need him to drill some more hooks into the fence. We live near an air field and a number of the planes which will be in Thursday's flypast are flying over the house heading for the airfield. I am getting excited, especially as a parcel from Betty's (Baker in Harrogate ) arrived with these biscuits enclosed, which will cause a lot of giggles, they are so silly.

Nice biscuits notgran. I saw some chocolate M & S corgis on Ocado yesterday. I was tempted, but my retriever would only look on in disgust. Perhaps he is a republican?

Love those, and the idea that making them is providing much needed employment for making, packing and delivering them. Sadly they are no longer available or I’d have bought some for my dog loving friends and family who we hope to see at the end of this week.

Callistemon21 Tue 31-May-22 16:18:20

? I might buy a corgi .......

volver Tue 31-May-22 16:22:29

Corgis are for life, not just for jubilees.

Callistemon21 Tue 31-May-22 16:37:24

I thought that as I typed it ?
Ah well, perhaps I'll knit myself one

Some of you are determined to be rude …My Daughter is Elizabeth ofcourse! I enjoyed Kath and Kim on TV but my children all have traditional Christian names. Somehow I feel that I am an outsider here and not welcome.Dismissed as a Conservative although I grew up during WW2 in a Council house in Liverpool.and have worked in public service all my working life.

Zonne Tue 31-May-22 16:43:56

Kath is a very traditional first name. One of Henry VIII’s wives was called Kath.

Callistemon21 Tue 31-May-22 16:44:31

Don't take it to heart, Annie1
You may feel outnumbered on here but Gransnet is not representative of the country as a whole.

I've just been to a Jubilee Lunch. I respectfully bowed my head when prayers were said for HM. I did think of some of the posts on here! The food was excellent though, so I'm pleased I went. Perhaps the Jubilee isn't so bad not when there's a free lunch in it (and no Corgis were hurt in the production of the lunch)!

volver Tue 31-May-22 16:48:01

What is wrong with all of you who will ignore the Jubilee?

With all respect Annie1, that's not what you say to people you want to be friendly with.

Weren't there 2 Katherine Parr and Catherine Howard?

"They" are not ignoring it at all, Annie1

In fact, they're talking about it more than most who are quietly preparing to enjoy it ?

Three if you count Catherine of Aragon

Could have been Cath, Cathy, Cat or Kate though ??

Nothing at all.

nadateturbe Tue 31-May-22 17:01:45

The majority support the monarchy but not all.

In May 2021, a YouGov poll put support for the monarchy down at 61% (with 24% against) among all over-18s, with a particularly high rise in republican views and an overall plurality for its replacement with an elected head of state in the 18–24 age group (41%–31%).[34] The poll also suggested significant reductions in support for the monarchy in 25–49 year olds, and a slight fall in support among over 65s.

Casdon Tue 31-May-22 17:02:18

Nobody who is posting on here is ignoring the Jubilee though, Callistemon21 is right. Whether for or against, if you have an opinion and voice it, you’re not ignoring it. The ignorers are the disinterested.
