Enough with the jubilee already.

The celebrations haven’t started yet and I’m already fed up with them.
I bought a loaf of bread yesterday and it had a silver crown on it and a jubilee message. When I think of the cost of redesign and printing a new message, it must impact on the price I’m paying.
Then I’ve just seen the itinerary for next week and I’m bemused by the timetable.
There’s a glorious fly past again with 40 planes and helicopters etc. I always remember my husband laughing at previous fly pasts as the UK has such a paucity of planes to do it that some of them were training planes and clapped out aircraft to bulk up the numbers.
I also didn’t realise the bank holidays were Thursday and Friday.
Oh well soon be over and we can have an in depth examination of Meghan and Harry and what they did/didn’t do, who wore what and how much did it cost etc. Ammunition for news articles for months and posts on gransnet.
Bring it on.

Lucca,

“Ridiculous comment” So you did not support Jeremy Corbyn? He was the chosen leader of the Labour Party! My MP, Tulip Siddiq voted for him. As she lived in my apartment block he visited. I think she regretted her vote. I am not sure whether you supported him, but the tenor of this thread could lead to that impression.

I do not believe that my comment about Harry and Meghan was ridiculous, but you have made the statement so it is up to you to give reasons for your opinion. Calling out another member of this group without any justification seems unfair to me.

How about calling everybody who isn't a Conservative a Corbyn supporter? Does that need justification?

Now that IS OTT. I'm not surprised the druids are none too pleased.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 01-Jun-22 11:24:50

It is. Ridiculous idea. Total waste of money.

I would have liked my small street to do something, perhaps put up some bunting, get out some tables and perhaps a gazebo as you cannot be sure of the weather and do some baking to make a little party.
I knocked on a few doors to try and get some interest going but nobody wanted to celebrate the 70th coronation. Most saying who cares about the Royals. So I tried after all I am not overboard for the Royals but I do respect her Royal Maj.
after all she has given 70 years of great service and now at her age she deserves a bit of celebrating.
I am therefore taking myself off to my sons on Friday and spending some time there and seeing my baby grandson.
On Sunday I am off to see my other three grand-children and spend some time with them.
The Queen is getting on in years now who knows what is around the corner it is not a time to be miserable and even a small celebration can be done on a budget.

Your comment that not being a jubilee /royal family fan must lead automatically to wanting Corbyn as President was IMO completely illogical. As it happens I’m neither a Corbyn fan nor a Labour voter.

Secondly your statement that Meghan and Harry are coming over “ to steal the limelight “is claiming a knowledge you cannot possibly have.

I agree Kalu ….. my sons arriving from USA today. Not been home in 3 years. Very excited …!!!!

Didn’t realise Thursday was a Bank holiday, thought it was a Friday and Monday. Going to spend my time quietly at home.

So you think people who don't agree with you should leave the country?

What lovely people Unionist Monarchists are.

Dillonsgranma Thu 02-Jun-22 14:26:57

When we have homeless people and others who can hardly afford to eat every day , the expenditure seems obscene

Aveline Thu 02-Jun-22 16:08:27

Found some WiFi volver? I thought you were going to a remote pod somewhere. I was wondering how you'd manage without something to argue debate about.

volver Thu 02-Jun-22 16:37:57

You really are needlessly unpleasant, aren't you Aveline?

Aveline Thu 02-Jun-22 16:44:56

'needlessly'? Hmmmm

Callistemon21 Thu 02-Jun-22 16:51:50

I am a bit puzzled too because I thought you were going to somewhere very remote, volver and were going to watch the sea and look for dolphins.
(Or was it seals?)

It sounded lovely, much more relaxing than being on GN!

Hope the weather is good.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 02-Jun-22 16:53:40

It’s always nice to hear from volver wherever she is.

I'm with you nana8 and quite frankly I don't see what there is to celebrate? You'll gather I'm not a fan of the royal family or what they stand for but that aside it's about an old woman who has refused to retire and let her son get on with the job he was trained for, and is now almost too old to do. I can't understand how people think that's good! I think it's selfish.

All of the money spent and, in my opinion, wasted on these 'celebrations' could have gone towards helping those having to use food banks to survive, who are asking for food that can be eaten cold and needs no heating or cooking as they can't afford the electricity to do so!

People can have a party anytime.... lots of ideas... summer solstice, strawberry festival, autumn leaf gathering etc.
