Enough with the jubilee already.

The celebrations haven’t started yet and I’m already fed up with them.
I bought a loaf of bread yesterday and it had a silver crown on it and a jubilee message. When I think of the cost of redesign and printing a new message, it must impact on the price I’m paying.
Then I’ve just seen the itinerary for next week and I’m bemused by the timetable.
There’s a glorious fly past again with 40 planes and helicopters etc. I always remember my husband laughing at previous fly pasts as the UK has such a paucity of planes to do it that some of them were training planes and clapped out aircraft to bulk up the numbers.
I also didn’t realise the bank holidays were Thursday and Friday.
Oh well soon be over and we can have an in depth examination of Meghan and Harry and what they did/didn’t do, who wore what and how much did it cost etc. Ammunition for news articles for months and posts on gransnet.
Bring it on.

I’m at a loss to understand which comment of GSM is provoking all this !

But so much work goes into all the celebrations in her honour, then she decides not to come at the last minute. I know it’s her choice but it’s vanity and selfishness isn’t it?

Hardly earth-shattering is it? Everyone - including the Queen - has an element of self-regard in their make-up. Elizabeth can't be unaware of her public image over the last 70 years and it's entirely within the realms of possibility that she doesn't want that image shattered.

In spite of our collective 'wokeness' as a society, there are still those who are not empathetic with or sympathetic to, those relying on mobility aids.

Maybe she can imagine the millions of eyes focused on her if she were to be seen uncomfortably tottering along with a walking stick or seated immobile in a wheelchair?

Personally, I think she should hand in her notice whilst she can still stand, smile and wave. No-one is going to think the worse of her at age 96! Age is creeping up on Charles - he needs to take control whilst he still has the energy for the job.

Actually Riverwalk I think the provision of loos at London events has come a long way. Number one - usually pretty clean and tidy, Number 2 - to be found at regular intervals. ?

Most definitely

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 03-Jun-22 22:40:27

In your opinion.

Bridgeit Fri 03-Jun-22 22:39:43

That makes it even worse .

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 03-Jun-22 22:38:00

How strange given that I studied British constitution in some depth as part of my professional examinations, and passed with a distinction.

Bridgeit Fri 03-Jun-22 22:30:55

Your comments show a lack of knowledge regarding the history & workings of our country.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 03-Jun-22 22:28:14

Kindly explain.

Bridgeit Fri 03-Jun-22 22:25:32

They clearly have not.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 03-Jun-22 22:24:40

Those fundamentals have been grasped thank you. Who are you to say that inaccuracies have been posted? Things you don’t like perhaps.

I am amazed that Germanshepherdsmum has said this, i hope you never suffer from terrible mobility problems that would even stop you being able to sit in a wheelchair due to pain, your comment is horrible and so lacking in compassion ,its unbelievable you wrote it, my husband has suffered for many many years and he would not be able to sit in a wheelchair for long as it would just increase the pain ,

GSM evidently feels that being unsympathetic to one person’s pain is acceptable. What goes around comes around.

Bridgeit Fri 03-Jun-22 22:19:47

Clinging on to power, vanity & selfishness? ?

Perhaps Best to have grasped the fundamentals of the workings of RF before posting inaccuracies.

Yup!

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 03-Jun-22 21:25:55

He’s not clinging onto power as our monarch.

Marina Hyde in the Guardian has an amusing article about fans/non-fans of ‘Platty Joobs’ grin

I think monarchists and republicans should watch this new video about The Royal Family.

Because we're British!

Honeysuckleberries Fri 03-Jun-22 19:54:58

I agree with you too Dickens and GSHM. I think she is desperately hanging on for this jubilee and then who knows what happens. I feel sorry for Charles, he looks feebler than his mum. He had a long day in the saddle yesterday and it was hot under that bearskin I bet. He is 73 now and not a young man so I wonder what happens if the Queen stays on and Charles becomes incapacitated too. Why oh why can’t we have a younger more with it monarchy like the Dutch?

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 03-Jun-22 19:38:52

I agree Dickens. I think this not turning up at the last minute has gone on for long enough. It’s time for Charles to take over properly. He’s doing the job in all but name and continuing to cling on and deny him the job he’s waited for all his life is nothing short of selfish.

I managed to avoid all coverage too apart from the bit that was on the news and I thought he looked very old but she is very old, so it is hardly worth commenting on.

My main thought was where do all those people in the mall go to the toilet?

On Wednesday my friend and I did a recce of The Mall as we like to do 'topical' walks... weddings, funerals, joobs, elections! I posted some pics on the photography thread.

As with all big events, there were rows & rows of portaloos tucked away out of camera sight in St James's Park!
