Enough with the jubilee already.

The celebrations haven’t started yet and I’m already fed up with them.
I bought a loaf of bread yesterday and it had a silver crown on it and a jubilee message. When I think of the cost of redesign and printing a new message, it must impact on the price I’m paying.
Then I’ve just seen the itinerary for next week and I’m bemused by the timetable.
There’s a glorious fly past again with 40 planes and helicopters etc. I always remember my husband laughing at previous fly pasts as the UK has such a paucity of planes to do it that some of them were training planes and clapped out aircraft to bulk up the numbers.
I also didn’t realise the bank holidays were Thursday and Friday.
Oh well soon be over and we can have an in depth examination of Meghan and Harry and what they did/didn’t do, who wore what and how much did it cost etc. Ammunition for news articles for months and posts on gransnet.
Bring it on.

I smiled at the "Salad Queen" label on the bottle of salad cream I bought yesterday.

That sums it up BlueBelle, same here. I often agree with your posts, perhaps because we are part of the Blue family? grin

I believe there is a big picnic on local common land near to us, but we won't be attending. We are having a tea party with our daughter and her children. The children wanted to do something special but they don't like crowds. Lots of home made goodies, and cups and saucers instead of mugs.

Volver I have this mental picture of you sitting sucking lemons.

volver Sun 29-May-22 12:21:44

Usually I pre-suck them before I put them in my patriotic trifle.

LauraNorderr Sun 29-May-22 12:23:39

If we lived closer Josianne I would lend you one of the paper hats that Orlin’s grandparents wore to celebrate the coronation.

Aveline Sun 29-May-22 12:24:52

No surprise there volver. Tip: I've been known to put a pickled onion in a trifle. Just one and carefully marked as to location. Generally evokes an 'interesting' response. Try it?

Kandinsky just like the unionists here who are happy to have free prescriptions ,no bridge tolls, free eye and dental checks ,no uni costs etc etc etc BUT BUT they hate the SNP and vote labour ...and get tory
I have never watched any royal occassion in my life ,I have an English naval officer opposite who hangs out bunting for even royal births ,,,hasn't converted anyone on the street as far as I'm aware .
Sooner this lot are gone the better.....och she never was Lizzie the second anyway ,we didn't have a lizzie number 1

Thank you LauraNorderr. They look lovely, a bit Egyptian if I may say. ??

I wouldn’t call myself an ardent monarchist, but I think I’d rather have a monarchy than not. My opinions are coloured a bit by the fact that so many republicans are rather unpleasant killjoys.

SporeRB Sun 29-May-22 12:56:07

Blimey, lightings of beacons in the capital cities of all 54 Commonwealth countries. I have to say no one does pomp and ceremony like the British!

My daughter will be coming over to stay during the Jubilee holidays that is all. She lives in a village and will be going to a street party at the village green with food and live music on the Sunday. There is no street party near where we live.

If I met the Queen I wont curtsy to her, not because I favour a republic, just that I am not her loyal subject since I am not British.

Come to think, we used to have some collectibles related to the Queens coronation - leaded pencils with white, blue and red stripes with a crown at the top.

My head just exploded.

I'm not her loyal subject either, but for different reasons.

I can appreciate why people would want to spontaneously celebrate the end of a Europe-wide conflict that resulted in many thousands of deaths.

Rich lady lives to very old age? Well I know lots of very old ladies, none of them merited a flypast.

Well said. There is a lot of talk about Queenies' hard work, it has been mostly meet and greets, banquets, and foreign travel, not my idea of hard work.

I’d find it very hard work! Can’t think of anything I’d hate more. I’d like the travel, but not if I was on show all the time.

I don’t like flypasts. Most of those aircraft are fighting/killing machines.

paddyann54 Sun 29-May-22 13:43:54

ANY of them could have quit at any time..likethe queens uncle did ,so being "on show" or fawned over and feted seems to be exactly waht they want/like.
Of course theres the hundreds of millions every year from the taxpayer and in taxpayer I include all those on minimum wage that pay VAT ,Road tax etc .
If it had been SUCH a tough life she would have thrown her hat in decades ago ,but she's too busy shovelling money away for her "heirs".Unlike a lot of her peers who are stick in horrible care homes or "managing" on their own trying to decide whether to eat or heat
.LIZZIE has had a rare and wonderful life ,sadly neither my parents nor my OH's made it even close to that age .hard work wears you out

swimcold Sun 29-May-22 13:49:25

Bluebell will join you in spirit l dip most of the year I am on the south coast ?

With the greatest respect, she's already had one of those.

And may she have many more

volver Sun 29-May-22 14:08:51

What? Many more long lives?

I’ve just read some of the ‘Abolish the Monarchy’ posts on Twitter. What sour unpleasant people.

Aveline Sun 29-May-22 14:25:08

*paddyann" not a happy soul are you? I'd quite happily pay for the universal untested freebies handed out by your lot. Not interested in their vanity projects just the hard day to day economics which seems to completely evade them.
Nothing to do with the Queen anyway.

Yes, let's all be happy, obsequious little monarchists grateful for the crumbs that fall from our gracious queen's table.

An alien reading GN for the first time might be interested in where most of the personal insults are coming from and who is trying to be polite.

That's fortunate at least it gives us, well me grin more time to sober up before its back to the monday friday 'grind'.

paddyann54 Sun 29-May-22 14:45:20

Aveline I am the happiest most contented person you could hope to meet .As you dont want the "freebies"and presumably would be happy to see people struggle to pay for things that the wealthier can afford ,teh I guess you refuse it all and make a statement by sending a cheque every month to cover what you would ahve spent....or your family.Thats the problem witha tory of either hue

Actually I was answering a poster who said they may be against the queen BUT they still take the holiday .Just like the unionists/anti SNP who still accept the perks ,
