Fellow Fashionista Grans: do you wear what you like or what you “should?”

If it's in my wardrobe and I want to wear it - I do!!

If I like it, and it fits, I wear it.

I am not sure about having 'rules' but I do not consciously wear anything that I know to be unflattering, but that merely means things like no belted waists. I have always had a relatively large waist because my hip bones are very high and the gap between them and my ribs is only an inch or two, so it means tops and dresses that skim the body rather than fit closely, which is anyway more comfortable.

I have never understood the dichotomy many people see between comfort and style. I have never been prepared to wear clothes that were uncomfortable, ever, and have never found that means one cannot dress stylishly and comfortably at the same time.

My grandmother, a very stylish woman, always said that it costs no more to buy clothes that look good on you, than clothes that don't. So always but clothes you feel confident in, even if it is only for walking the dog.

I wear exactly what I want. 9n my working years, I had what could be called more conventional clothes to suit my role. I had a smaller group of clothes for non working days.
Retirement allowed me to only buy clothes I enjoy wearing. What’s not to like

I absolutely wear what I want. I was so embarrassed as a youngster to wear anything where I might stand out and there's no way I am going through that again. I wear what I think suits me and I don't much care what anybody else thinks with the exception of my husband. However, he is more likely to choose unsuitable clothing so I probably only pay lip service.

After spending my working life wearing uniform, I certainly wear what I like. Usually it's also what is comfortable.

I wear what I want. When I'm walking the dog it's normally jeggings and trainers, but if I'm going for lunch or a show I like to dress up a bit. I've found high heels are so uncomfortable now and probably my trainers haven't helped with that, so I've bought block heeled sling backs for a wedding in July that I know I should be able to wear all day.

Why not hire a beautiful dress if it’s a grand occasion GG?

I wear want I want, although my DH does compare me with a bag lady frequently??? But seriously as long as I don't frighten the horses, I'm still wearing clothes that I've had for over 20 years - and I have never been 'fashionable' either, except when I was a punk rocker ?

I am at the desperate stage of looking for a ball gown apparently it has to be long so I cannot dust off one of my cocktail dresses ????

Ladies, how is it that you've reached a certain age and are still lacking in confidence? Bite the bullet and wear what you like, as long as it doesn't frighten the horses.

Not sure it’s a case of still lacking in confidence. I used to be a confident dresser, but since retiring and being involved in entirely different activities, I’m still finding my style

I've just had a lecture from my 15 year old grandson who had been reading the article about going brighter every decade. I assured him that's what I'm doing!

I wear what I like within the boundaries of what suits me. I enjoy clothes and like to be stylish but do not worry about the latest fashion.

I just ordered a pair but hadn't seen anyone else in wide-legged trousers so was going to send them back.

What would you wear with them?

Most people take no notice of what we oldies wear so wear what you want.

The French will stop and stare on occasion, looking from head to toe. When they do that I return the favour.

I wear what I like. I love high fashion and enjoy wearing it. I wouldn’t wear short skirts or very low, busty tops. This is me in my 60s

I’m much the same as you, Welshy - partly lack of confidence, but also since leaving work, and then because of the lockdowns, I rarely have occasion to wear anything other than very casual clothes.

I look dreadful in most things, except grey jersey trousers and grey jumper - people always say I look great in that...

I wear what I like. Mostly dresses because my husband likes them and I love the comfort of them. Nothing to cut into my large tummy. I often look far too formal for occasions but I don’t care.
