It’s everywhere - at parties, weddings, the obligatory tipple if you happen to be in a hot tub, the free gift, the pub quiz prize…
Am I the only person who doesn’t like Prosecco?! It’s just fizz! ?

Not a fan either TiggyW, much prefer to have a glass of a good wine. Certainly wouldn't want more than a small glass of prosecco.

I detest the stuff......more so since going to a Boxing Day party three years ago. On arrival I was asked what I wanted to drink, I wasn't driving so asked for a glass of red. "Oh, we haven't opened it yet, here's a glass of prosecco" came the reply. The hostess shoved a glass of it into my hand and flounced away. The annoying thing was, I had actually taken two bottles of red with me to the party!

The prosecco continued to flow all evening..........still no offer of an alternative despite myself and several others asking for different drinks. A couple of people even asked for soft drinks but were still given prosecco!

Then the hostesses best friend arrived.........and out came the gin from a secret hiding place! Still no one else was offered any alternatives to the bloody prosecco!

Several of us were furious and vowed never to attend these regular Boxing Day parties and Covid put the brakes on them too.

I am a bit of a lightweight blush and can only drink it with lemonade .... then it's very nice!

SuzieHi

Try Cremant if you like champagne
( think it’s the same just not produced in the champagne region). M & S sell one.
I like the more expensive Proseccos - San Leo is good - usually £10-12 per bottle but often £7.99/£8.99 when on offer in Waitrose.

I thought Prosecco had, had its day? everyone I know has Cremant,
So much nicer, not bad price but a tad more than Prosecco, cheaper than Champagne.

I have always loved Prosecco and prefer it to Champagne. I am obviously not very sophisticated! Cheers wine

Joseanne Tue 31-May-22 15:02:25

I too thought Proseco was now considered passé Visgirl, not that I ever liked it much.

I will put my hard hat on and say I've always thought it a bit chavvy. Give me a nice glass of dry white wine any day.

When I was younger there was Asti Spumante, (if you couldn't afford champagne) then everyone discovered Cava, now it's all Prosecco! They all taste much the same as far as I can tell and champagne tastes better. But I like a glass of decent red wine.

I don`t like it eitherTiggyW.
It actually gives me tummy ache, and it`s not the amount i drink either.
I have four bottles that i have been given on top if my wardrobe.
My friend who loves it is in for a nice suprise next week.

I'm with you Tiggy
Hate the stuff

When we have family get togethers, that are usually for a birthday or something - one of my brothers insists on buying a bottle of prosecco and doing a toast.
I don't like the stuff - don't know if it's because it is usually not the best - or more likely the value range, but it is too dry for me and just leaves a nasty taste in my mouth !
I'd much rather have something like sparkling elderflower - the prosecco just gets tipped into the nearest planter after a few minutes and when my brother isn't looking!

moobox Fri 03-Jun-22 11:39:06

I am going off it, but we have a hot tub booked for a holiday cottage, co I am sure it will be flowing then

I don't like fizzy drinks at all. Love a good wine, all colours, real ale and Mediterranean lager. The only fizz I drink is Alka seltzer or Andrews liver salts, and haven't had one for years.

Alioop Fri 03-Jun-22 11:42:38

It's not for me and I'm not a fan of champagne either, I'd rather have a glass of wine instead.

Larsonsmum Fri 03-Jun-22 11:43:55

Best Prosecco we have had of late is an organic one from Aldi - I’d give that a try. It is the best!!

Nannarose Fri 03-Jun-22 11:46:26

H1954, what a dreadful party!
At the risk of sounding pretentious (moi!) there's a lot of dud Prosecco about. We went camping there pre-lockdown / Brexit, and thankfully brought back a couple of cases of excellent fizz!

I’d go along with that.

In my younger days I remember Asti but wasn’t impressed. I discovered Frascati, a lightly sparkling wine which I very much enjoyed. I’m ok with Prosecco but as I don’t drink very much, it’s a take it or leave it scenario.

I’d rather have a glass of Speckled Hen or Bishop’s Finger any day ?

greenlady102 Fri 03-Jun-22 11:53:50

i think its horrible, likewise cava. I don't mind asti but by and large, if its not champagne you can keep it. many years ago I was stopped in the street and asked to do a sparkling wine taste test....asked to identify the champagne from the cava. I nailed it (not sure if I could do it now) and the lady was quite surprised.

Tree71 Fri 03-Jun-22 11:55:05

I prefer a cuppa any day of the week

grandMattie Fri 03-Jun-22 11:57:17

Nope. I prefer Cava, or expensive champagne, although the latter gives me a hangover if I smell it!

nannyof4 Fri 03-Jun-22 11:57:29

I don't like any fizzy wines or coke as gives me palpation. Not a lover of champagne eithersmile

Usernametaken Fri 03-Jun-22 12:00:37

I don’t like it on its own, but with either pink or Rhubarb and Ginger gin it’s gorgeous. Mind you, you don’t need many to start singing and acting like a crazy Granny ??

henetha Fri 03-Jun-22 12:02:34

I'd rather have a banana milk shake.

Twopence Fri 03-Jun-22 12:07:52

I'm afraid that I don't like fizz of any kind, be it Champagne, Prosecco or Coca-Cola. Give me a glass of good Malbec for preference.

Soroptimum Fri 03-Jun-22 12:09:52

I’m a Cava fan too. Prosecco is far too sweet and too fizzy.
