Gardening alive and well in my neck of the woods Skydancer. Chelsea FS pretty busy too.

Skydancer Wed 01-Jun-22 15:41:48

Gardening - sadly. I can see the downward trend already. Seems it's too much trouble for a lot of people. Two houses in my road have plastic grass for their front lawn. What next -plastic flowers outside?

Religious ceremonies for marriage, funerals and Christenings.
Lawns (global warning)
I used to use talcum powder for drying and removing sand after swimming at the beach, but wouldn’t use it these days, especially with babies.

Matching teasets and teapots, toast racks and I have already been asked by grandchildren”what’s a chequebook” and what’s a newspaper.

A sense of history which in turn relates to the future. Marriage as a basis for family life. Along with tolerance which is the essential ingredient for a long marriage.

Tea cosies. I'm the only person I know who uses one!

i do too nell, you can't beat a cuppa from a teapot, tastes so much better when it's been brewed rather than just a teabag dipped into the cup!

Well we learn something new every day here! ?

You can buy them in Tesco as well. Very useful if you're just cooking for one person.

I’m in fashion with my hair then Chestnut at last.

I have a picture of me in the 1960s wearing those awful stretchy slacks with a foot piece to hold them down. Hideous.

annodomini Wed 01-Jun-22 13:02:17

Slacks. We may wear something like them but we don't use the word any more/

Meant to say that you can buy it in Sainsburys but I am sure other supermarkets sell it.

BlueSky Wed 01-Jun-22 12:08:43

Cash. Same way as cheques, thought we couldn’t do without, but cards/phones replacing it all quite fast. I think the pandemic made it happen faster.

Frozen potatoes? I’ve never heard of them, except frozen chips.

Hi Gsm, You can buy boxes of frozen mash - but I prefer frozen 'cubes' of mash. You just put the cubes in a microwavable container and cook in microwave for required amount of time. Then fork it all together and you have very nice mashed potatoes - even Mr R eats it and he's very fussy! BTW I found out about this super helpful product on Gransnet quite a few years ago smile

DanniRae Wed 01-Jun-22 11:59:34

I use Johnsons baby talcum powder and have no problem getting it smile

The NHS.

Have those sets you used to see on the Chemist shops at Christmas, with talc and bath cubes, gone completely out of fashion? I don't think I've seen any for years and years.

Chocolatelovinggran Wed 01-Jun-22 11:53:40

Talcum powder is the go to product for removing sand from small people after a beach visit: in use here all the time! ?

VioletSky Wed 01-Jun-22 11:50:47

I i used to love talcom powder, I had one with a big puff and it made your skin feel smooth...

Talcom powder or whatever its calked, i dont really see any more unless it is for babies

I use it
But I am very old ?

My youngest daughter loves this. We have to buy via Amazon. Hardly any in shops any more. I like it as well, actually.

Mollygo your Grandson is following fashion as we all did in our youth. My hairdresser tells me that a lot of young men are having perms, apparently the style is to have very short/shaved hair at the sides and curls on top.

Mollygo Wed 01-Jun-22 11:40:11

MyDGS has just had a perm-a light one to ‘give it some movement on top’!

Ladies ruining their hair by getting regular perms.

Fashions come and go but then sometimes make a comeback.

When perms had gone out of fashion suddenly, in the late 80s, they became all the rage again with young people and teenagers, both male and female!
I remember DD and all her friends having large, very curly perms and they still laugh when they look at old photos of themselves.
