Do any of you track your partner's phone?

‘Find My Friends’ the app is very good. My NZ dil used this, her friends were all on it to make sure they were safe at night getting home. I installed it to help me locate DH in the park when he has to run off and find our dog/dogs when they do a runner looking for squirrels, I also use it when meeting friends in unfamiliar locations.

You could do find my friend my sons and I have it on our iphones and we don’t live local to each other. It’s because I blacked out in my home and it was neighbors who noticed. and called an ambulance. I was in hospital 12 hrs before they knew anything about it. my sons said should it happen again they would see my phone hadn’t moved so they would know. But you can always buy him a Apple Watch and if he falls it would alert his emergency contacts. My oldest bought me one.

Myself, my husband , son and Daughter in law are all on Find My Friends. Very handy.

I can track my husband on his phone but I don't. Equally I can track my adult son on his phone but the only time I look is when he is pickled, rings me in the early hours on his way home and his phone suddenly cuts out. I just check then to ensure that his phone is moving so I know he hasn't had an accident. One of his friends was walking home drunk from a club in the early hours and was killed by a car as he crossed the road.

You can share your position on WhatsApp, then he is in control and just shares when he sets off

I have never tracked any of my children nor my husband, I would absolutely hate the idea that I was being tracked.

We use “find my friends” app but just within close family. Handy to check where each is on a journey, run or outing or even to see if they’re home before a phone call or planning a visit.
Would not like anyone else to be involved though- far too personal/ creepy to feel you’re being tracked.

We use Find My Iphone and Life360. It is invaluable. I was a passenger in a car accident and my husband could see exactly where we were to come and help. If you are travelling separately it is very useful when meeting up.
My husband spent years travelling round the world on business; it would have been so much less stressful to have been able track his progress, especially when planes and ferries were delayed.

No, we don't track each other but my daughter does track her teenage children.

The OP might consider one of the tracking watches that Lin ks to the wearer phone and can call the emergency services in the event of a mishap.

I think "do you track your partner's phone" is a strange way of looking at it. "Do you have a tracking app so you can find each other when needed" might be better. I used it today to see if my husband was in Leclerc, so he could get me some shampoo. ?
We don't have anything to hide from each other!

If you both have IPhones, you can simply share your location with one another

Good god no! Sounds awful, would hate tracking anybody or being tracked.

You can also share location using Google maps - no iPhone needed. My OH is always encouraging family members to do it if we're travelling to meet up, but none of the rest of us is very keen. However, one day when he was out shopping I accidentally tracked him (sort of) when I went into banking app and saw the various places he had made purchases with his card (joint account)! Very little we do is private any more.

My daughter goes out running on her own. Via her watch, she connects with me and I can track her, via Garmin, provided there is a signal. She does this in case she encounters a problem, like the OP, but I do not always follow her, and it fades out when her session has ended, so may not be much help.

We have Find my Friend apps, One of the Oopsies has decided (now she is 18) to remove herself from the App, but the others all feel safer knowing that we can track them.
When they all went back to Cornwall (and when they came here last week at Midnight) they liked knowing that we could track them on the Motorways.
I don’t use it at any other time.
MrOops is also on it as he keeps losing his phone, it’s usually in his car, between or under the seat, sigh……..

Sorry for being away for so long! I would just need it in situations like Cabbie's or Mamie's. No-one else would know he was missing if he fell off the bike and really hurt himself and the area is sparsely populated, so it might be a matter of life and death. If he was unconcious he wouldn't be able to use his phone to call for help. Our phones are both Android, so Find my Friends sounds ideal. The title was designed to attract attention, rather than meaning I was going to track him on a regular basis! Thanks everyone

I track my DH and DGS on Find My it’s excellent. In fact I found my 11 year old DGS in the heart of Paris yesterday. ?

Oh! Just read a bit about FMF. Does the person who needs locating have to be active to use Find my Friend? If so that wouldn't work in the situation I envisaged.

With Life360 your phone just has to be on. It works on Android and Apple.

I have friends whose menfolk have used trackers to control them, by watching all their movements. If they deviated from whatever their plans were, they got it in the neck when arriving home and were accused of all sorts of horrible and untrue things such as having an affair.

Another man used a tracker to monitor his daughters, both over the age of 18. Creepy and manipulative.

That’s not to say trackers don’t have their uses but there’s a down side, too.

What 3 words is good - watched emergency services programmes about finding people in remote places and seems to be suggested by call handlers if people phone but don't know where they are.

Not very long ago, a small group of friends and I were walking in woodland when one tripped. It was immediately clear that she had broken her leg very badly. I had a map and knew very accurately where we were. I call the emergency services to give the OS grid reference. The call handler said they did not work on those and I had to describe where we were. I described our location from the map but that meant nothing to her either. I asked if she could locate us from my mobile phone signal. She said that was not how it worked which made me doubt every TV show and film I have seen where police do exactly that. In the end, one of our party had to walk to the nearest road, about two miles away, find a landmark and call in the accident from there. She had to wait for the emergency crew and walk them back to the scene of the accident. I wonder to this day whether I just got call handler who didn’t know what she was doing. Surely an OS grid reference is as accurate as one can be?

My question is, does anyone have experience of a being found in a remote off-road location using any kind of device tracking? Or any call handlers or someone who knows a call handler who could say how the emergency services do find someone in a remote location?

SueDonim if they knew the trackers were being used inappropriately then why not just turn them off? You just log out or block tracking temporarily.
I think the police can find phones given enough time, but would have to go through the provider? What3Words would work; we have that on our phones as well.

The problem with remote locations is that very often there is no phone signal.
