I thought they looked lovely today. Is their improved fashion sense down to their husband’s influence and not their mothers now?

JaneJudge Sat 04-Jun-22 18:21:29

or they have now been well used which doesn't bear thinking about

It's a surprise to me that people still give a hoot about 'the correct dress code for ladies'.

With so much else to worry about surely it would make sense to have your gloves on strings through the arms of your coat.

I’m just catching up with this thread and that really made me laugh.

I was taught a lady carries her gloves in the same hand as her clutch bag which would have to be the left hand if you were expected to be shaking hands.

I went to a very posh wedding when I was fifteen and did as instructed. One of the ushers who I fancied like mad offered to hold my gloves for me and I never saw them again.

I used to dream that a jealous girlfriend found them in his pocket and broke off their relationship.

They more than likely ended up in the bin! ?

Thanks for enlightening me about Kate and Meghan's (got it right that time, volver!) dresses. I thought they were both white. Must be our telly.

Probably bought online!?

I think Lady Freddie Windsor and Beatrice have the same dress in different colours. Both looked lovely

Yes.

Did the designer not mention it to them both?

SueDonim Sat 04-Jun-22 17:37:33

Elastic is better than string for keeping your mittens safe! boinnnnng! grin

Did anyone see the pics of the Cambridges in Wales today? Catherine had a sticking plaster on her thumb - maybe an industrial injury or even monkey pox from glad-handing the peasants. ?

Harris one of my favourite summer dresses is 15+ years old. I love wearing it and it’s so soft and comfortable now.

???
I remember that feeling

BlueSky Sat 04-Jun-22 17:19:05

I couldn’t believe how old Freddie Windsor looks now! I expected the blond boy I remembered!

Harris27 Sat 04-Jun-22 16:35:36

Some of the dresses in the shops are so frumpy looking I’d rather wear last year’s clothes.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 04-Jun-22 16:33:48

I guess in those circles these things still matter. Doesn’t affect the rest of us and I couldn’t care less what they do with their gloves.

I read that Meghan’s outfit was ‘greige’ which sounds like the colour of a tapioca pudding or something. It was an odd style, with that thing sticking out over her shoulders at the back. A cape?

I like the flying saucer hats!

Parsley3 Sat 04-Jun-22 16:28:50

Correct dress code? How ridiculous.

And if you notice, Kate and Camilla both observed the correct dress code for a lady and carried their gloves, whilst Meghan kept her gloves on
If I carried mine I'd be sure to drop one.
Then I couldn't say thank you to anyone who picked it up because that's bad luck.

Then I would get shredded in the media ?

I hold my husbands hand. I hadn't realised it was so controversial until I read the escape to the country threads and I actually live in the country

Very Non-U if you live in the country.

We take no notice, we hold each other up!

JaneJudge Sat 04-Jun-22 16:09:04

Oh it like the blue/cream dress thing!

yes and paracetamol, bottle of water, indigestion tablets and small sanitiser gel. Plus some receipts and a half eaten sweet

RichmondPark Sat 04-Jun-22 16:08:11

Beatrice and Eugenie have always had their own individual style and nowadays seem more mature and comfortable in their own skin. I always like to see how they dress, much more interesting than just following the crowd. Good for them.

Calendargirl Sat 04-Jun-22 16:05:43

Also, why carry gloves if you’re not planning on wearing them?

Just something else to bother about, along with your handbag, glasses, phone, tissues, money for the collection…..

Calendargirl Sat 04-Jun-22 16:03:50

I read that Meghan’s outfit was ‘lilac’, my favourite colour.

But it looked white or ivory or cream on the tv.

JaneJudge Sat 04-Jun-22 15:38:29

I don't understand the gloves thing. I just looked on the bbc website and meghan is carrying her gloves confused

Different designers. One is Dior and the other Alexander McQueen.

Wasn't what Megan wore yesterday - the white coat-dress - very similar to what Kate wore the day before, or did my eyes deceive me?

Perhaps Catherine lent it to her?

?

It was nothing like it ! For a start Kate’s was very white and Meghans was more “ecru” or “ivory”

Come on now. Here’s a picture of Beatrice and Eugenie both wearing no gloves at all, and holding their husbands’ hands. There are other pictures too, so it’s not just because they were climbing stairs. Are they beyond the pale altogether?

Oh no because they are not Meghan !!
