Just watching the concert at Buckingham Palace and who should pop up but Her Majesty doing a beautiful clip with Paddington Bear. Even better than her appearance with James Bond

Adam Lambert has been performing with Queen for over 8 years now Deedaa. he's excellent. Came to fame on American Idol if I remember correctly.

Fabulous to see the Queen on the balcony. Very moving indeed.

And Louis singing the national anthem. Priceless!

HM has arrived at Buckingham Palace form the end of the Pageant this afternoon. The Royal Standard has been raised.

Queen were brilliant as ever. I've not seen Adam with them before and I thought he was very good. Not Freddie but the sort of eyecatching singer they need. I met Roger Taylor some years ago and found him rather disappointing as a pop star ( less Keith Richards, more bank manager) I would kill for Brian May's coat.

Diana Ross looked amazing for someone who's even older than me, but why have an American end the evening? However all the crowd seemed to be having a great time which is the main thing. No point putting on a show if the audience don't enjoy it.

well, I didn't plan on watching it as I don't as a rule enjoy big events such as this, but, I watched it to the end. Paddington Bear bit was inspired, and the beginning with the military drums and Queen was a great start. Some of the acts were, sadly, past their prime, but it didn't really matter to the crowd. Diversity were stunningly good, as was the Lloyd Webber medley (although no glasses on meant that for one disturbing minute I thought that Tony Blair was wearing the technicolor dreamcoat, not Jason Donovan shock). Rod has lost his strength of voice, and Diana Ross really shouldn't have been there, poor performance and depressing for those of us who remember her vitality and voice. But, the technical stuff, the lighting, lazers, drones were absolutely stunning and it was worth watching the show for them alone.

paddyan54 My wee GD told me ,today, that she was horrified that people would use warplanes in a flypast when there are people in London escaping war ...wise child
Then you'll have to explain to her that these planes saved our country from someone like Putin only worse. That's very relevant.

I put it on to see Queen and good as Adam is he'll never replace Freddie .The first half was great.I love new music and I knew most of the acts .I agree Celeste had the wrong song and Rod should be put out to pasture .Loved Alicia Keys was very happy to hear her sing New York ,its a favourite. Bocelli sang popular Opera because of the mixed crowd and he was fabulous.
I left it to record and watched Diana Ross just because she was a favourite in the 70's.I thought she looked terrific and her voice has held up well.
No ,on the whole I'm not happy about the expenditure for this Jubilee not because I "hate the queen " I dont. I hate what she stands for and it filled me with horror thinking that there was near 100 years of Heirs in the good seats .

I watched the start with Paddington, very good, and the speeches and wonderful lighting effects at the end. Avoided the music which just wasn’t my thing. I was surprised it was so unrelentingly downmarket. (Stand by for the accusations of snobbery!)

Wouldn't it be kinder to say popular?

Dinahmo Sun 05-Jun-22 14:46:28

Did anyone notice a spelling mistake in the words flashed up on Buck House? At one point I think they said your, instead of you're, as in you're wonderful.

Loved Paddington and The Queen, she has such a lovely sense of humour. Missed a few if the acts as didn’t like them, others were good, why wasn’t Tom Jones there? My pleasure was seeing so many happy people, all together to pay tribute to Tge Queen, no trouble at all.

Ed Sheering? grin

I was commenting on/critiquing the production on here purely because I had a former West End theatre lighting director explaining how it all worked. I remember some posters were particularly interested in this aspect on the Strictly thread too.
It's good to share knowledge.

Calendargirl.
Answering your question from yesterday at 20.43
The ‘plumpish singer in a white t-shirt’ is John Newman who had a big No. 1 hit 9 years ago with ‘Love Me Again’.
Great voice.

Thank you. Have never heard of him, but he had a good voice.

Callistemon21 Sun 05-Jun-22 14:13:07

It's difficult to tell if someone is miming unless they make a mistake. I do think, however, that Diana Ross's voice was multi tracked on occasion
It seemed as if she was singing into the mike one second, then said something, then continued singing.
The spoken words were inaudible because the mike wasn't on.

Ed Sheering is performing at the end of the Pageant this afternoon, Cliff Richard is on one of the buses not sure if he is singing.

Buses ?

Is he going on a Summer Holiday?

There is a decorated bus for each decade of HM’s reign with celebs/athletes of the time.

Useless fact of the day, buses are not usually allowed on the mall.

Andrea Bocelli wasn’t downmarket!

The Queen should take up a new career in comedy. She is brilliant, you can see the humour in her face. I would love to see her doing more sketches like this.

Purplepixie Sun 05-Jun-22 13:53:05

Just great!

We loved the Queen with Paddington Bear,so funny.
She certainly has a good sence of humour.
I didn`t watch any of the show.

henetha Sun 05-Jun-22 13:39:39

Thank you Volver. After I wrote what I did, it occurred to me that possibly you didn't watch any of it. So I'm surprised but pleased to hear you did and enjoyed some of it.
