DH has ruined many a jumper by doing it the’ male’ way. The seams underarm split. I have taken to sewing them up with contrasting thread to reming him not to tug on them ??

I'm a head first man putting things on, and pull sweaters up and over my head.

I've always been one to do it up from the front, then whizz it round to the back. Then put arms in.

I do both, but mainly go for the male option of putting arms in sleeves first, ditto with taking a sweater off, I tend to pull from the back.

I am not sure what that says about me!

Ps. I'm not thinking about hair or makeup but could be thinking about putting the garment on/off smoothly & not pulling at it too much.

I used to put things on over my head but when I had a sore shoulder I started putting one arm in first, then head, then other arm.
I still do this but not always the same arm first.

It's funny that small children have this difference, as most of them will have had their mums teach them how to dress themselves.

I've helped hundreds of kiddies get dressed like Fanny and it is true. My husband does and breaks the stitching in his jumpers also by pulling from the back. Little boys could never get their shoes on the right feet either and would walk around until you pointed it out to them.

I was taught in rehab to put tops on my paralysed arm first, then the other arm, then over my head. I still do this otherwise I can’t find the sleeve. Same when putting coats on, affected arm has to go first. Although my arm eventually recovered some movement I have no idea where it is unless I’m looking at it.

I must be a man when putting on Tshirts and jumpers, but a woman when taking them off I put them on by the arms-first method, and take them off by crossing arms in front of me, grasping the sides and lifting arms.

As a man I prefer the head first technique. But I also put my jackets on by the right arm first, then fumble behind for the left sleeve. When I see men fling their jackets around them, arms raised, almost as if it's a cloak, then the let it slide down both arms at once I think 'girly!' Do you strike a match towards you, or away...

When taking off jumpers/tee shirts I’ve noticed men pull them up from the back whereas I cross my arm at front when removing. Anyone else notice this?

As I stiffen up with age I find it depends what the top is like. Some seem easier to put over my head, others work better if I put my arms in first.

Interesting observation FC. I thought that was how my DH put tops on but just asked him to talk me through the movement and it’s just as you say!

Off topic, but I could only ever put a left shoe or sock on before the other one, or it would feel weird. I’m right-handed.

Funnily enough, now you mention it, you are right. In the majority of cases that I have observed, men do the arms first thing. My DH even does it with long sleeved sweaters; he puts his arms in, rolls up the sleeves and then pulls it over his head and pulls the sleeves down to his wrists. And, he is more fussy about how tidy his hair is than I am!
