Watching the Jubilee Parade, I know there's a lot of regiments and it gets boring, but could someone please wake the lady who's sound asleep behind Prince Charles?!

You are most Welcome. Pleased it wasn’t as bad as you expected.

nadateturbe Mon 24-Oct-22 14:59:47

Thanks silver and fc.

So pleased! We knew that you’d be fine. Well done ?

Glad all went well and we were able to help with your worries

Good evening everyone. I just wanted to let you know how it was. I told the radiographer that I was nervous and asked if she would talk to me during the scan. She had no problem with this, and took time to show me the scanner and describe everything and how much of my body would be inside. She was lovely and I felt totally at ease. I was given ear plugs and used my own face mask.
The scan lasted 30 minutes, but it didn't seem too long. I played the alphabet word games which worked, although at one time the noise was horrendous for a while, as some people said, so I did controlled breathing during this.
They were running behind so my quordle etc, kept me occupied and stopped me thinking about it.
If I had another one, in the same scanner, I wouldn't need diazepam, but it did help this time.
In case anyone reads this who is going for the first time, there really is nothing to fear.

I want to say thanks to you all. I was so nervous, and in the short time after I posted, I got so many helpful and reassuring comments. I'm so glad I posted, because you all made it much easier for me.
I love how Gransnetters support each other.

silverlining48 Sun 23-Oct-22 16:01:46

Thats good. Expect you are there now. Good luck, not that you need it, it will be fine.

nadateturbe Sun 23-Oct-22 15:57:07

Thanks again silverlining48. OH with me.

silverlining48 Sun 23-Oct-22 15:26:43

I just checked and mine are 5 mg. I usually take 2, and once 4. (Now that was two too many.).
Luckily my dh was chauffeur.
You will be fine on 2 mg but if it’s not too late someone to drive you home might be helpful.

nadateturbe Sun 23-Oct-22 14:53:44

Thanks.

FannyCornforth Sun 23-Oct-22 14:46:54

Yes, you could feel very sleepy if you aren’t used to them.
You might need to go to bed when you get home!
And you aren’t a coward at all, you are just being honest

silverlining48 Sun 23-Oct-22 14:35:33

I take them about half hour beforehand. If you think you might be kept waiting take it as soon as you arrive.

nadateturbe Sun 23-Oct-22 14:31:08

Silverlining48 GP gave me one 2mg pill My appointment is 4. 20pm How long does diazepam usually take to work, please?

silverlining48 Sun 23-Oct-22 14:21:30

I use diazepam fir the dentist ( jaw problem) as a relaxant, usually take 2. You are completely aware but just not bothered, if you see what I mean.

P.S. I’m a total coward about all things medical but it’s ‘a necessary evil’ so to speak.

I know Blossoming we are fortunate that we are able to have them. But goodness why am I complaining, you've been enduring them for 20 years ?

I'll do my best to ignore the panic button!

Silvergirl Sun 23-Oct-22 13:46:39

I am a bit claustrophobic but managed quite well through deep breathing, Simon and Garfunkel on and having the reassurance of having a buzzer to push if I wished to stop. Maybe ask them to tell you when you’re half way through. Good luck, it is not too bad. Think I was about 20-25 mins.

LadyGracie Sun 23-Oct-22 13:45:27

The tranquillisers definitely help, I felt relaxed, closed my eyes and floated away.

Hello Blossoming ?

FannyCornforth Sun 23-Oct-22 13:36:33

Hello again, that’s good, if you’re anything like me the diazepam will work wonders.
I’m not sure about the earplugs, I’m wondering if they are allowed, as they are never mentioned?
Perhaps you have to be able to hear the nurses.
I’ve just remembered - you have a panic button to hold and press if all gets too much, which it won’t of course!

Blossoming Sun 23-Oct-22 13:36:09

I’ve been having them for the last 20 years so guess I’m used to it nowgrin. I don’t like loud noise and have an extreme startle reflex but knowing each burst of noise only lasts a few minutes helps.

nadateturbe Sun 23-Oct-22 13:17:35

Earplugs! Good idea. Thanks again everyone. GP gave me 2mg diazepam to take.
I feel sick already. I'm pretty good at controlled breathing. Hopefully something will work. I've tried to tell myself all you ladies have had it and coped. I'm such a coward.

I hope they don't suggest dye. Couldn't cope. So much for my name Nadeteturbe!

I’d forgotten about the different noises.
