Your Mythical PhDs

I applied to do one a few years ago, into why kids struggle to learn Maths. I would still do that subject, if I did a PhD. But I realised I prefer to long up my sleeves and teaching Maths, after all.

My Ph D subject:
"The sheer soddishness of the inanimate object"
or why something apparently lacking in thought processes or emotions can manage to make life to difficult.
"You couldn't do it if you tried..."
-catch your sleeve on the door handle
-drop buttered toast butter side down
-drop anything edible in the cat's bowl
-spend 15 minutes trying to undo a plastic binbag from a roll
-lose the end of the sellotape
Etc!

I would research at what age the gap between the brain and the mouth starts to narrow and what age it reaches its peak. At 68 I’m hoping it’s now!

Are the loud music and tops off in men not just a mating ritual similar to a peacock displaying its feathers? Ancient, primal need to grab attention and be seen to be the best for making new human beings? Warm weather being more 'fecund'. Might be an area of study!
My subject is still in the infancy stage... something to do with human behaviour definitely.

I actually did my PhD on "The Population Ecology of Feral Cats in Portsmouth Naval Dockyard". (Yes, really.)

Fantasy for study: Why, when you put men (and sometimes women) next to a body of water with stones to hand, do they feel obliged to throw said stones into said water?

Mine would be on Directors, acting and the importance of detail, lack of which leads to disbelief on the part of the viewer.

Subjects include actors swinging supposedly heavy large suitcases around as if they were paper files, people brushing a floor in one spot and cups filled with half an inch of tea.

Add to that, the still obvious wigs, even though wigs have advanced so much and the reluctance of some ‘stars’ to just cut and dye their hair for the part.

Mine would be on the reasons and deep significance of the fact that, whenever an action, in any field whatsoever, requires three objects to complete it, I am able to find two easily, but the third one is always missing

Maybe that should be instruments, not objects. Wording is so important in these things!!!

Mine would be ‘how many sentences could be perfectly understandable, and still make good sense, without the constant use of the F word’.

In my experience, males of all ages, tend to remove their tops in Glasgow, at the first glimpse of good weather. The mating ritual carried out by males, who are half naked, peely wally, and displaying a beer belly, paunch, certainly wouldn't encourage me to mate with them. ?Yuk, Yuk and double yuk!!!

I am attending the Glesca Grannies meet up next week and plan to keep of how many of the species, I spot.

There used to be soap opera that had one of its sets as a garage workshop.

Somebody wrote that there was a particular car in the garage workshop, supposedly being worked on. The person wrote that they had not watched it for some time, then about a year later, watched it again, and the same car was in the garage workshop!

Somebody else replied that, as it was a year later, it was probably back in for its annual MOT test and service.

Talking of wordle, I would investigate why I can complete wordle in 5-10 minutes, share it with my friend, then struggle to remember what the word was an hour (or less) later ?

Mine would be why do I find octordle and quordle easier than wordle.

I have a hypothesis for the 'tapps aff' phenomenon. Maybe when the weather is hot males are loathe to mate, due to maybe the excessive sweating that is likely to occur or maybe sperm production is reduced at warmer ambient temperatures. Therefore the exposure of hideous flesh is intended to repel the females of the species.
Not sure how this hypothesis could be tested though.

I would like to do a PhD on the subject of chocolate, in particular whether a preference for dark chocolate is related to gender and/or age. I note that the dark milk chocolate is promoted to the older demographic- I love it, my DGC don't.
Of course, the research would involve the purchase of many different bars of chocolate that I would need to sample to assess their 'darkness' prior to carrying out my research.

The prevalence of coconut aroma within 10 miles of the UK coastline and its relationship to temperature and men's allergy to clothes within the same time brackets.

Esspee, I did one (a boring one) - but for my next PhD, I'd investigate that mysterious 'disappearing females' phenomenon related to weather conditions.

According to male friends, attractive women appear from nowhere when the sun arrives, then disappear completely when it's cold!

Then there's the closely related male 'turning head and gawping' syndrome, apparently an entirely automatic response.

To quote something I read earlier:

That is so apt for me.

Mine would be "The human male and the line of least resistance."
I would investigate why they seem to, for example, reach into the wardrobe and wear the first item they find or put something down in the nearest spot knowing that the female will move it to its rightful place.

Here are DH's socks at the present moment to illustrate my thesis!
