It's not an age difference I would even consider pass remarkable, at the ages they are.

If she were 16 I could understand the unease, perhaps.

My nan was married to a man 19 or 20 years younger than she was.
They hated each others' guts, though.

As I said, their ages, and anyone else's ages are irrelevant because they are adults who consented to take part. They are given all the revenant info before they agree. It's just porn which shouldn't be on mainsteam TV anyway.

Just as an aside, it struck me as deliberately a bit skewed that she is cited as a 19 yr old girl, and he is a 27 yr old man..... aren't they both adults?

Why not two young people, or 19 yr old woman, or 27 yr old boy?

Am not bothered either way TBH hate the idea of the show so never watch it but just sayin...

i was 22 and my husband was 18 years older than me, in fact he was a few months older than my mum. the age thing does not matter unless you have an older woman and a younger man then all hell breaks loose with some people saying how wrong it is....not me...i would say go for it regardless of gender or age.

Are they there to find a partner? Or just their 15 minutes of fame, which they hope will be extended either by their bad behaviour there - or by winning! ??‍♀️

I would be so interested to know what others think of an age gap when the woman is older than the man. All the above accounts seem to involve older man younger woman.

It's a stage of life thing though. An 18 year old is just out of school. A 27 year old has a lot more life experience.

Met my DH at 19, he was 30. Got engaged at 20 and married just after my 21st. We were together until he died in January-47 years.

Age gap shouldn't matter, its the persons personality that is important.

Isn't this the show that has already seen two suicides from former 'contestants'? (Not including poor Caroline Flack.) This must say something about it and its aftercare.

Never seen Love Island, it hasn't taken my fancy, I don't have an opinion on it - how could I if I've never watched it? I can't understand the problem with a 19 year old being partnered with a 27 year old, what are we supposed to be taking issue with? DD's partner is 49 and she's 38, it works really well and they are extremely happy and perfectly matched. She was previously married to a man her own age, he was lovely but they were definitely not suited. Mr Right has certainly arrived this time and the age difference matters not one jot.

My first husband was 7 years older than me, we were married for 30 years... my 'new' husband is 6 1/2 years older than me, married for 5 years and still going strong! lol... I don't think age is such a big thing, maybe more than 15-20 might be a bit difficult.

My DD married a man considerably older than her - they are very happy and have been for over fifteen years. She 'would rather have twenty five years with him than a hundred with someone else' - quote!

Age gap not a problem. Concern about the subsequent claims of damage to mental health, which seem to follow this sort of program, far more worrying.

Rubbish program. I shan’t be watching.

19 and 27 is no age gap at all.

My partner and myself have a 14 year age gap.

Never watched Love Island, just not the sort of programme that appeals to me. But I do wonder why people seem to think the age difference is a concern. When I was 17 I had a boyfriend of 28, we never worried about the difference and got on well. My DH is 9 years older than me, and my FIL was 20 years older than my MIL. Age shouldn't matter. However, as others have said why on earth does a 19 year old need to take part in a programme like that to find a partner?

I don't mind that age gap, I just despair of the programme. Young girls watch it avidly and then expect their relationships to be the same.

My niece was 25 and married a man in his late 40s. Very successful marriage, 18 years now, 2 lovely children. She can do whatever she likes as he's happy at home if she wants to go out with her friends. He respects her youth and has never curbed it. Age is unimportant if a deep love between 2 people exists.

I tried watching it once because I didn’t want to diss something without actually knowing what it was - blimey, it was WORSE than watching paint dry!
Made me despair that people who have supposedly had years of education can end up being so ill informed and utterly self and body obsessed.
Luckily, I know plenty of young people who aren’t like that at all, so I concluded that the Love Island contestants are a self-selecting needy group who want to be recognised in public. Sadly, they must have very low self- esteem which a programme like that surely only exacerbates?!

When I was 18 my first boyfriend was 32. No big deal at all.
