Grumpy Old Woman Alert!

Love Island is back on TV (apparently), not my type of programme so I don't watch, however, there is a discussion on local radio this morning because a 19 year old girl has been paired with a 27 year old man.

It seems many people are unhappy because of the age difference, something I have no opinion on - all I could think was that 27 is a bit old to be appearing on such a programme!

OK I'll see if I can find a Home for Grumpy Old People!

I’ve never watched it, what I’ve read about it is enough. The age difference would be the least of my concerns with it! When you find that Home perhaps you could let us have details. I think I’d fit in very well!?

Never watched it - heard the young ones talk about itv- not interested …

So will I

Exactly Shep
Those sort of shows always end in a disaster of some sort.
I don’t think that it’s much of an age gap.
When I was just six years older than the young woman mentioned, I was with a man 26 years my senior!
(DH, of course ❤️)

Presumably they are all consenting adults over the age of 18 and are aware of the age groups involved. And as the whole concept is sleazy and decadent these young women should also be aware of what is expected of them. If they are prepared to flaunt their pert derrieres, appear virtually naked and have sex on mainstream TV then that says it all really.

There is a seven year age gap between (D)H and I.

I do dip into Love Island occasionally, I find it fascinating that people willingly do these sort of shows. It’s one big social experiment, all facets of attraction condensed into several weeks.

That’s no age gap! I’ve had an older husband and now a younger one. Too much is made of just a number.

Never watched it. I have been informed a member of a family I used to teach appeared on it a few years ago. She got her man or thought she had they stayed together until a pregnancy then split.
The age gap is their concern we have them in our family one worked very well and that was over 20 years the others are still ongoing.

So the age gap is the thing they're worried about.........!

My father was 13 years older than my mother. It was a very successful marriage.

When I was 19 I probably would have thought anyone over 25 was ancient grin

Don't think much of the age gap...But what I can't get my head round is why when you are 19 would you want to go on to a programme like love Island to find a partner...Got your whole life in front of you....Wait a minute just had a thought could it be to try and find fake fame....grin

The 19 yr old in question has an extremely famous father and is a successful professional equestrian in her own right.

Doesn’t need the fame or the money.

It's a stage of life thing though. An 18 year old is just out of school. A 27 year old has a lot more life experience.

Chestnut Thu 09-Jun-22 12:20:38

As I said, they are all consenting adults and are aware of the ages involved. They agree to go on the programme. So the age gap is irrelevant.

Mine Thu 09-Jun-22 14:26:36

I'm quite aware she's Michael Owens daughter with an extremely successful career but I don't think a pretty 19year old girl like her is on love Island to find love....More to become a so called "Celebrity" I would imagine....Poor girl getting lots of bad press already....

What I know of this programme they'll both have moved into someone else in a couple of days.

Our eldest is 7 years older than our DiL. They have a happy stable marriage. They have 2 children who are 4 and a half and 3.

They have been married 6 years. Together 2 years before marriage. Known each other 18 months before they got together. Our son is 37 and DiL 30.

I know your talking of going on a TV program at 27 however 27 is young today.

Its not my type of program either BTW. I don't watch that sort of TV program.

H1954 Fri 10-Jun-22 12:44:51

19 and 27 isn't such an age gap..........and it really does depend on how mature the individuals are surely. I know 27 year olds who are less mature than my 13 year old grand daughter. I would be more concerned if he was 37 though.

BlueBelle Fri 10-Jun-22 12:53:50

Never watched the programme but from the bits I ve heard about it don’t they pair themselves off
Do they get paired off ?
Anyway 19 and 27 doesn’t seem a problem women mature earlier than men so they re probably similar
Judge Judy always says men don’t even start to mature until 30 ??? she’s probably right

Grantanow Fri 10-Jun-22 13:15:45

Can we move on to something important?

You have to start a new thread yourself, or read another one

Age is just a number

GraceQuirrel Fri 10-Jun-22 13:31:29

When I was 18 my first boyfriend was 32. No big deal at all.
