GSM I think my sort of gentleman might have tipped his Panama hat, offered me his arm with an engaging twinkle and said “Flirting, my dear ? ” And off we would have gone for afternoon tea on the terrace.

I felt that if I had replied "Potato variety" to the remark that I might seem stuffy anf offhanded and cause the lady to feel awkward.

If that had been face to face in a social situation I would have just smiled and said nothing.

In this thread it might have seemed that I was huffily ignoring here

It can be difficult for a man if a woman chooses to put him in such a situation. Whatever he replies somebody is likely to criticise him. A lady should not put a man in such a position.

But I didn't ask her that. I attempted to avoid appearing standoffish when a lady asked me that question.

It is called being tactful and diplomatic.

It is a good skill to learn and apply.

I’m been for a pint of Shire’s with Bert. He managed to smuggle a keg over in the boot of his 2CV - where Freda’s hotpots used to lie. Ah … Poor Freda - swept away in Ye Grate Fludde of 2015. I’m feeling quite nostalgic. Is that Rob Titchynob over there blocking the Rhône culverts?

Anyway, I go away for an hour and come back to some intrigue which has inspired more drivel. Here we go …

I have now found it on YouTube, in colour, in the clear.

You tell me, how should a well-behaved gentleman reply to a lady who asks him, out of the blue, "Talking potato varieties or flirting with me?" when we had been talking about puns based on potatoes, going back to mention of oven chips?

Should I just have ignored her, which might have been regarded as being stuffy about a harmless remark? Or should I have just replied "potato varieties" as a man in employment might feel the need to do if his boss's wife was trying to embrangle him? Or what? Please say, then I can learn what you consider would be the correct thing to do if a man is presented with a potentially awkward situation by a woman.

No, far fewer.

The 722 was the number of views of the video at the time that I posted the link.

The number listed has not increased by now, which may be because nobody has viewed it since I did, or it might be that viewing figures are only updated once a day or wherever, but the video is there to watch if people choose to watch it. I enjoyed watching the video.
