The latest iPhone.

Could anyone explain how it differs from others?
Is there a way of being able to tell, in a brief glimpse, what model it is?

How does the iPhone differ from a Samsung, for example, and how can you tell, just by sight, what model and make it is?

GrannyGravy13 Fri 10-Jun-22 14:41:59

The iPhones are all slightly different.

The older models will not be able to access the recent updates, and some banking apps will not work on the older models.

Sorry no experience of Samsung or other android models ?‍♀️

Could you tell by looking, grannygravy?

crazyH Fri 10-Jun-22 14:45:55

I couldn’t tell you Miss A. The only reason, I treated myself to an iPhone XR, this is slightly larger (in measurements) than my old phone (iPhone 6) and the storage is 64GB. I store lots of photos of the grandchildren etc
I don’t know the difference between iPhone and Samsung . I hope someone will come along with more info ….I was really no help, was I ??

MissAdventure Fri 10-Jun-22 14:47:40

Oh, but you were!
I'm trying to find out who is savvy enough to cast a cursory glance over a phone and know.
Certainly not me!!

crazyH Fri 10-Jun-22 14:48:32

No, I don’t think you can tell what phone it is, by just ‘looking’ at it …

One feature of an iPhone is that it syncs with any other Apple devices that you have, so for exampl your emails, texts, photos etc come up on your iPad.
It also syncs with your car technology, if you have an up to date model, so for example mine will contact my breakdown provider and tell them exactly where I am.

I think my AC and the older GC definitely could, they are different sizes, thinness and the camera lenses on the back are different.

The model No is on the back

How old is ‘old’?

My phone was my GD’s, she upgraded to her mum’s old one, (as you do), so Granny came in for the out of date one!

It’s an i phone SE.

Is that considered ‘old’ re banking apps etc? Seems ok at the moment, no desire to change.

MissAdventure Fri 10-Jun-22 14:50:54

My boys get their phones muddled up.
One will be the latest model, and one not, and they are both very savvy.

MissAdventure Fri 10-Jun-22 14:52:05

So, a person might have to check the model number on the back, to be sure?

I’ve just compared my newest iPhone (18 months old) with previous one (5 years old) and they are different.

So, people would need to compare, as a rule.
Size, thickness, the charging "bit" (whatever that's called!) model number...

Configuration/number of camera lenses

Thickness of device

Size of device

Weight of device

Get them to customise their homepage then you can tell quickly who’s is who’s

(good luck)

I'm trying to dispel the myth that poor people have "the latest" iphone" which is trotted out with regularity here.
Hence, I'm asking who could tell without removing it from the poor person and comparing/contrasting it.

I dont know much but here we go.....iPhone is a smartphone ios system made by Apple and Samsung is android is a different make. Still good and does much tye same i think but not an Iphone which seems to be the most popular ( and expensive).
Iphone cant have more memory increased but Samsung can.
My iphone is small and old, a but like me i suppose. Its an SE 5 and dh bought it years ago for £££ and i have it on pay as you go. I hardky use ut. I prefer our ipad ( again Apple) tablet whuch is bigger and easier to manage ( fat fingers).
I know people who pay less than £10 a month contract but i dont yse it that much so stick with Pay as you go.
Most people change their phones regularly and leave the old one in a drawer, gatgering dust, so why not ask you gss or anyone you know if they are gettingva new one soon and can you have their old one, ,which will not be old at all of course.
We used to get dds old ones until the gc were old enough to have them so I am stuck with my tiny one forever while the 12 year old has a much more up to date model than us.
Not much help I suppose. Good luck.shamrock

The other way to tell the difference is if you need a code to unlock, or a finger or the latest iPhones have face recognition and Apple Pay (tapping your iPhone instead of a debit/credit card)

MissAdventure Fri 10-Jun-22 16:01:21

I can do that on my old, old Samsung, I think.

silverlining48 Fri 10-Jun-22 16:04:06

Xd post MissA. Re your last post, those who just want the latest anything will always recognise it where most others probably wont. An example I had a very wealthy friend who could recognise any high end designer bag /shoe/ jacket from across the other side of a shop, me? I didnt have a clue.
The other thing is dont they put phones into holders so everything apart from the screen is hidden in which case no one can tell what it us...unless its someone like my erswhile friend who knew the cost of everything but the value of none.

MissAdventure Fri 10-Jun-22 16:06:37

Just looked it up.
My phone has face recognition.

Mine doesn’t recognise me if I change my glasses or leave them off ??

silverlining48 Fri 10-Jun-22 16:10:26

Calendargirl, we seem to have the same phones, so do they have face recognition? How would you even know?

MissAdventure Fri 10-Jun-22 16:16:05

I just googled the answer as to whether I have face recognition.

I'm always losing my glasses, grannygravy.
It would have to have a good memory for all my 99p spare pairs!

You would know when you set up your phone in order to use it.

It would ask for you to put in a code to open the device and the later models will
also ask you to set up finger print or facial recognition.

I've got a 2016 Iphone SE, and luckily it is still being updated, and I can access my banking app.

It's about the size of a bar of chocolate, I don't want anything bigger so when I upgrade will probably get the Iphone 12 mini.

When I moved here I couldn't get a signal with 02, so researched and found that '3' offer wifi calling as PAYG SIMS. Lucky I did as I'm nearly always on wifi calling, the castle at the end of my road blocks the signal most of the time. I pay £10 per month.

I thought my charity shop had one in this morning - but it was an Iphone 4 sad My home button is starting to break.
