That said just heard the new George Ezra album which is a sheer delight - not all new stuff is crap !

Who is he?

The first band I ever saw was Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant’s singing and stage presence was fabric. I still listen today, always loved blues music.

The only vaguely famous group I saw live was the Jeff Beck Group (hi ho silver lining) at a Bradford Uni bop. DH once 'opened' for Bob Dylan. I was always a Stones fan but like George Ezra and the Killers. Nearly forgot, saw Blondie at Gateshead Sage but she was doing improvised jazz and it was dreadful (still love her though).

I lived in Surrey in the 70’s and there were some great rock pubs, Three Fishes in Kingston on Thames ( Dad said never go there, I didn’t listen to him) Then there was the Hautboy in Ockham and the Ship in Shepperton, plus others. I was a bit of a wanderer as a teenager and would take myself off on my own to all sorts of places. Luckily I didn’t get into too many scrapes.

Went to see Georgie Fame and Alan Price, both great. ??

Purpledaffodil, I also had a holiday job as an usherette at the Regal, North London, and saw The Sound of Music 42 times. It was shift work and good money for a hard-up student.

I don’t think anyone will be seeing the Stones anytime soon

I was at the 1969 Stones Hyde Park concert in 1969 (it was free - imagine!). Mind you I was so far back I couldn’t see much.

David Bowie's album Ziggy Stardust is 5o years old this week . I heard a very interesting programme at 3am this morning all about it......I was a big fan, even had my hair cut short and spiky and hennaed to copy my idol .

Some girls pulled a 'sickie ' at school to see the "Stones". That night on the local T.V. guess who was shown in the screaming queue.
A group sent a list of requests to Radio Caroline that was in the Irish Sea. It consisted of teachers' names and records that matched them, some were less than admirable. They were found out and the fallout was fealt for months.

Nothing wrong with quite a lot of modern music as exemplified by the huge variety for the Queen's Jubilee concert. Some oldies no longer have the voice, Rod Stewart being one. I agree the Rolling Stones are still singing well at nearly 80! but they are the minority. Sadly I have never seen them play live. But did see Pink Floyd in Norwich in the 1970s and now people rave over the takeoff groups.

To be fair to Rod, he expla9 that his voice was not great as he had recently had Covid. He didn't want to let people down by cancelling.

I remember my old Dad saying Mick Jagger would burn out and die before he was 30 'cause no one can keep up that level of energy. Pleased to say he's still going, Mick that is.... He's older than me and still doing international gigs and strutting round like rooster.
Sadly the joints are getting stiff but when I'm listening to the music - Cream, Ziggy, Beatles, Kinks, etc I feel more timeless than old and then there's the beautiful Mick Jagger reminding me it's all to do with attitude.

Another George Ezra fan here. His Shotgun was the most cheerful, tuneful, summer-loving song I'd heard in years.

I saw Lindisfarne and Cream as a student. The first was my choice as they were very popular at the time, the second DH and I'm afraid I was bored stiff.
DH has always liked Bruce Springstein and has been to about 3 of his concerts usually with DD who buys him tickets.He was still popular when he played at Glastonbury a few years ago

Paul McCartney will be 80 on Saturday. He will be headlining Glastonbury this year much to the annoyance of the 'Paul McCartney should give it up brigade'. Why should he? If he enjoys it and people want to see him, why not?
I would go to see him given the chance (not at Glasto obviously). I was a mad Beatles fan, seeing them many times live. I have many tales to tell. I saw Paul on his own a few years ago. It was a great show. To me Paul is an icon.

I saw Lulu at the Albert Hall when I was 12. (There were several acts and the DJ was Jimmy Saville (!!) She came to Manchester where I now live 3 years ago and I realised that if I went that would be Half a Century between her concerts. It made me feel Very Very Old.

Friend, who is 50, visiting Berlin, last time I was there in 1969 he wasn't even born.
Hoping to visit again someday...

My son constantly tells me I grew up in the best time re. music. And he is right, I saw many bands back in the day and absolutely loved it !
He is so envious , especially seeing the Beach Boys, yes, really, as it has been the soundtrack for our holidays since he was small.

I think it was easier somehow to get to see bands back then, now the concerts are so huge and expensive. I remember my first concert was The Jackson Five at Belle Vue in Manchester with my bestie when I was 13!, 13! I lost my voice and my palms were bruised the next day with clapping, magical

I have been to Glastonbury 3 times, I went to the very first one, I am 69 years old love music, I am off to see the Stones in Hyde Park soon. Very excited

I never realised you could go to see your idols but was probably too young for Beatles and Stones concerts anyway - born in the 50s. I did get to see T Rex, Genesis (twice) and went to Knebworth once!
