David Bowie's album Ziggy Stardust is 5o years old this week shock. I heard a very interesting programme at 3am this morning all about it......I was a big fan, even had my hair cut short and spiky and hennaed to copy my idol blush.

Paul McCartney is 80 next Saturday 18th June. My best friend at school in the 60s was obsessed with him and I think I know more about Paul's details than I know about myself and I can still remember them all!

I often wonder how many of today's bands will still be around in 40 years - after watching Top of the Pops from the 1980s and 1990s and realised that I couldn't remember or had never heard of many of them !
So many one hit wonders!

The only group I ever so live was the Bachelors! Bit tamer than previous posters!

My DH is 6 years older than I am so my musical taste is probably older than I am.
There was a programme on Sky Arts last night about Pink Floyd, it was amazing how many of their tracks I instantly recognised!

Paul McCartney is, or is approaching, 80. How did that happen?

Just been to see The Killers, eclectic music taste is the key to keeping an open mind.

Absolutely!

The last time I saw the Stones in 1965 The Hollies were on the bill before them. They were rubbish.

Kate1949 Sun 12-Jun-22 15:11:33

First time I saw The Beatles they weren't top of the bill. Roy Orbison was.

Esspee Sun 12-Jun-22 15:02:24

The first time I saw the Stones they weren’t even top of the bill.
They finished the first half of a Little Richard concert in the Glasgow Odeon.
Last time was their No Filter tour in Barcelona 2017.
There is no way Mick was able to perform as he did in Barcelona without a little “medical” assistance.

My cousin went to see the Stones. I wasn't allowed to go. She and a few friends were invited backstage after the show. She told me they behaved really badly towards the girls. I can believe that but I still like their music.

Kate1949 Sun 12-Jun-22 14:40:11

I was there at the town hall foxie

joannapiano Sun 12-Jun-22 14:37:12

I saw the Stones twice at our local theatre around 1964, too. My friend and I just stood on our seats and screamed. Our 14 year old grand daughter has just been to a Madness concert and also likes The Killers.
Saw Rod Stewart live several times when he was just starting out. He couldn’t sing then, either.
Best group I ever saw was The Nice. Keith Emerson on the keyboard was wonderful. ( Later formed Emerson, Lake and Palmer.)

I saw the Stones in 1964 at Birmingham Town Hall, no urinating on that occasion!

Kate1949 Sun 12-Jun-22 12:37:10

BlueSky I wasn't very keen on them at the start. Nobody but The Beatles would do for me. A girl at school paid for me to see the Stones at Birmingham Odeon as nobody would go with her. Not impressed by Brian Jones urinating into a bottle on stage. I saw them voluntarily a few years later.

Just wondered - any of you at Knebworth when Bob Dylan headlined ?

I love it too hazel.

The dementia cafe that I help at often has music quizzes - mostly 60s music. It's a bit scary that I have seen most of the artists being played.

hazel93 Sun 12-Jun-22 12:13:33

That said just heard the new George Ezra album which is a sheer delight - not all new stuff is crap !

Oldwoman70 Sun 12-Jun-22 12:07:53

Reminds me of a comment I read in a newspaper a little while ago "the reason young people today are so angry is because their music sucks" ! grin

hazel93 Sun 12-Jun-22 11:55:11

My son constantly tells me I grew up in the best time re. music. And he is right, I saw many bands back in the day and absolutely loved it !
He is so envious , especially seeing the Beach Boys, yes, really, as it has been the soundtrack for our holidays since he was small.

H1954 Sun 12-Jun-22 11:51:47

Just endorses the theory.......the old ones are the best!

BlueSky Sun 12-Jun-22 11:51:17

Kate I wanted to see the Stones in the’60s, wasn’t allowed, but did eventually see them live in the ‘90s! grin

Kate1949 Sun 12-Jun-22 11:46:17

Our young nephews are going to see The Stones this month. I keep rubbing it in that I saw them twice in the 60s!

Audi10 Sun 12-Jun-22 11:41:06

Yes time flies doesn’t it!

BlueBelle Sun 12-Jun-22 11:36:22

And the stones themselves well in their late 70 s
Ahhhh where has the time gone
