My dad refused a frame, but nurse persuaded him. She suggested tying the handles of a bag around the middle front to which he was able to store bits and bobs in that he would have been unable to carry whilst using crutches.

(52 Posts)Good Morning Everyone,
Its another sunny start here in brackley this morning.
Had a phone chat with nurse , referred me to my Doctor , who will also phone as to results of blood test , I did not venture out yesterday , but will do a small local shop today ,as well as tracking a parcel delivery .
Take Care,
Mick
And of course, that short little snippet went just like that!
Aggie and stilllearning I've had the "not posting" bug so often recently I have given up!!
Good morning from a hot Oxfordshire, not complaining though.
So sorry to see that many Grans are coping with sick family, my thoughts are with you all.
I was decluttering but just ended up rearranging stuff! It’s not like me to be overwhelmed, maybe it’s a Winter job?
Anyway, off to make cake mix and sausage rolls to freeze .
? for Urms I expect you are on your balcony with a glass of something cold and a good book.
Good morning everyone from a grey skies blustery Glasgow, at least it isn’t raining which allows me to get into the garden and potter which always helps to take my mind off any worries.
Thank you so much to those who have sent good wishes for DH. In my eyes, he is indeed an amazing man Stilllearning and as Maw says, as wives, we soldier on, for us, side by side to keep each other positive. We have a meeting with the consultant on Thursday for DH to sign consent forms for his surgery which we now know will go ahead next Tuesday. Just trying to keep myself occupied to stop any overthinking.
So pleased to hear your DD’s first chemo went smoothly kitty
I have a black Dutch bicycle which I no long use hollysteers and your photo has given me an idea to prop it against my she-shed and fill the basket with a couple of petunias looking for a pot as I bought too many??♀️?.
Waiting for heart surgery is enough to deal with and a difficult pharmacist is added stress you shouldn’t have to deal with Ash sorry to hear you have this too.
Fabulous news for your DD Grammaretto
Best wishes to Fanny for a speedy recovery.
Have the best day you can all.
Good morning Mick, Annie and all.
My cleaning fairy has been and gone, DH has had a session in the front garden, burning off the patio weeds, while it was mostly still in the shade. I have had a call from the oncology pharmacist, so now the day is free!
GrandMattie I am so sorry to hear of your frustrations and your DH wanting to still be independent. Would he believe you if you said his crutches were not strong enough and a walker would be much better?
From all the comments on this lovely thread, you are all so supportive of all who need it, and it is so nice to read.
Off to have a coffee in a shady spot in the back garden and put up my swollen ankles.
Thoughts to all who are having a tough time, and need a hug.
Have a good day one and all.
Good morning Auntyflo and all x
Good morning from Ibiza. Lovely to be with the family and so enjoying the delicious home cooked food here. Not usually a tapas fan, but our host provided such a lovely array last night, all looking so artistic. Today we go into Ibiza town by ferry to enjoy the sights there (and there are certainly some sights?)
Thinking of Fanny, GM, Kalu and those with daughters having treatment.
Ibiza shopping photo.
Good morning, it’s raining here ! Well it will top up the water butts
daughter told neighbours she would water their window boxes while they were away , lovely of her ! Except that she is now away too and muggins here has to do it , I got them brought round the back and on the ground so it saves my back ?
I couldn’t get my long screed to post early yesterday either stillearning
Good morning Mick and all. It’s glorious sunshine in my corner of Lancashire, currently 19°C and rising.
My plans are physio exercises as usual, then either a short walk or a spell on the exercise bike. Mr. B has gone to do the supermarket shot and collect our weekly order from the bakery. I will help put the shopping away on his return.
For Urms ??
I know she doesn’t often post in this thread, but many of you will know FannyCornforth. Her hip replacement surgery went well and she is home and recuperating.
Sending positive vibes to those going through difficult times. I’m hope today is a good one for us all, with a ?or ??along the way.
Good morning all from a sunny W Kent. Bit late this morning as I had a sore throat and took a Covid test which was negative, DH said he supposed he better check and low and behold positive. I am a bit worried as he has all kinds of health issues but has had 4 jabs, hopefully they will help.
So it will be a quiet day and see how we go.
Very best wishes to all struggling along with life
Good morning Mick and everyone from a brightish rather cool Carlisle. I am jealous of all of you getting an actual summer.
I shall be finishing off the housework and laundry today and hoping to potter in the garden later, it should at least remain dry. Yesterday the train company refunded me half of my outward train journey to London last week...the train had been 30 minutes late arriving, not their fault I believe. Now I'm worrying about my train trips booked for late August...because of potential strikes. I don't want to be having to drive down to Dover, I've never driven the length of the country before but if I have to, I will though it would be a two day trip!
Best wishes to all of you with medical tests/treatment and recalcitrant husbands, that's you grandMattie! He's not giving in easily, good for him.
Have a good day all.
Good morning all from cloudy South Lanarkshire.
I’m feeling exhausted today for some reason but will try to get out for a short walk.
Sending my best wishes to everyone with worries or illness to cope with.
Have the best day possible everyone.
Missing Urms, ??. hope you’re back soon!
Good morning everyone from another bright and sunny ? day in Northampton. Am thinking of going out in the garden shortly to clear weeds from a border while it is still cool and the border is in shade. Then I will have a coffee, then shower and dress, have lunch and off out to the well-being cafe. Shall not take my knitting today as it is too hot to be sitting with what feels like a blanket on my lap.
Got lots of stuff done yesterday, and enjoyed our health walk in the afternoon. Sat outside in the sunshine afterwards and enjoyed a cool drink and a natter.
Hoping today is less fraught for those struggling, and hope the sun shines for everyone.
Good morning from the Scottish Borders where it is cool today. nights are drawing in.
grandMattie I acquired all kinds of aids at the end of DH life but he rejected most. He had his DGM walking stick and occasionally allowed the wheelchair in emergency.
Dignity is the last thing to go.
I am very tired today and may not bother with yarn group.
But then I would miss all the gossip....
My good news: DD had her hospital scan and got the all clear. She had waited 18months for the appointment.
Have a good day everyone ?
Good morning from a dry and mild NE where the sun is just peeping out from the clouds.
Sister's flight from Germany has been cancelled and rearranged for Friday, let's hope it is third time lucky as she has already lost nearly a week of her visit.
SIL is coming to take me grocery shopping and we also need to sort out gifts for DIL'S 50th birthday.
I am sad to read your post this morning grandMattie, your DH is experiencing the same kind of problems as mine did, I couldn't take my eye off him for more than a minute or two as he would be trying to move around on his own.
Very good to hear that Kitty! Onward and upward!?
Another hot day in the west midlands. I have a hair appointment, no trains so it will entail 3 bus journeys. I was loathe to cancel as haven't been able to go for such a long time due to family needs. I hope the aircon is on when I get there. Thoughts for all with troubles and worries.
Morning all from, as dragonfly says, a lovely and sunny north Leicestershire.
Pootling and faffing today and then next door for
and a catch up.
DD's first chemo was uneventful - thank you for your good wishes.
Sending love to all with worries and cares.
Good morning from Shropshire.
We have had a difficult couple of days with some devastating news about a young friend of mine.Later in the day we had happy news from a friend of our daughters. My mind has been all over the place.
Hoping for a quiet day to get all house and garden jobs done and hopefully a relaxing afternoon.
Urms??missing you too.Hope you’re back with us soon.
Sending best wishes to all with illness or worries about family members.
Have the best day you can ??
Good morning from S Lanarkshire, still cloudy but maybe sunshine later. I wrote a newsy post yesterday but it refused to post for some reason, first time that’s happened.
Very noisy outside just now, the council are redoing the pavements in our street, they badly need it and it’s a nice surprise that it’s actually being done.
Exercise class this afternoon, I now collect my friend who lost both her son and husband over the past year and is now struggling quite a bit with mobility issues. She is, however, utterly determined to ‘keep going’ which is quite right but she does have frequent falls. She is currently sporting a splint after breaking a bone in her lower arm but is looking forward to a holiday in Tenerife next week. Another friend is accompanying her so ?for both of them!
I wanted to send good wishes yesterday to your daughter kittylester, I was thinking about her as well as he others needing support just now. Kalu, your husband sounds an amazing man, thoughts to you both.
Wishing everyone a good day ???
Good morning from sunny Leicestershire.
Popping into M&S first then will have a coffee outside.
Meeting friends in the garden of a local pub this afternoon.
Oh Mattie it does seem to be one thing after another at the moment.
Sorry you had such a frustrating day Ashcombe and hoping kitty’s DD’s chemo went okay.
? Urms.
Wishing every one the best day possible.
Good luck for today,*Hulahoop*.
LFL, I cannot wait to hear about the stained glass,
Good morning all - as the Redtops might say -another Scorchio!
I am off to visit Kelmscott today with friends from the Arts Society. I love William Morris designs, although the domestic set-ups of some of these Pre-Raphaelite types woukd make even Jetemy Kyle’s hair stand on end!
Oh dear GM it doesn’t get any easier does it? We used to have 2 walking frames for indoor use- one upstairs and one downstairs which I could “park” in a corner out of the way and they gave much better stability than sticks (plus I could hook DH’s catheter bag to it when I took him through to the loo in the night) . He never got to grips with any sort of walker out of doors though- the wheeled ones seemed to run away with him!
It is HARD but as wives, we cope, because that’s what you do.
Hugs to all with worries or health issues, whether yourself or your family (which is always worse) and my hopes that things do ease for you.
