Yiayia4 Fri 22-Jul-22 21:39:51

Dragonfly what a terrible shock, thinking of you?
Not good news today BIL back in hospital waiting for an update.

Blossoming Fri 22-Jul-22 21:02:51

Thank you Jax hope Mr. J has a good weekend eventually.

Urms I’m right handed, and I’ve always had an aptitude for languages, so your sister’s theory doesn’t hold true grin. It’s the right side of the brain that controls the left hand and vice versa, my neuroradiologist told me when we were admiring my scan pics.

Grandmabatty Fri 22-Jul-22 21:02:49

Cornergran I'm sorry to hear that. Fingers crossed your friend is seen soon.
I decided to opt for Spanish and I've battered through the first four lessons. More tomorrow after my life drawing workshop.

kittylester Fri 22-Jul-22 20:57:28

I'm left handed and can't do languages to save my life. DD2 is the same - now maths is different.

Sorry I have been missing -life has got a not silly lately. But u try to read everyday and thank you for this lovely great soop. By the way, where is your meet up -:do I need to buy ear plugs?

cornergran Fri 22-Jul-22 20:53:14

Goodness dragonfly, what a mistake to make! Think that reporter needs to go back to reporter school. A fulsome apology is deserved along with an apology gift.

You must be exhausted sued, hope life is less difficult soon.

Willow has a very enquiring expression soop, full of mischief is my guess

Apologies, I’ve just skim read today. A good friend has had an accident, ambulances are overstretched, the extreme delay has meant no help has been available yet, and much of our the day been spent on long distance support to our goddaughter who is her carer.

Have a good evening everyone, sleep well,

Urmstongran Fri 22-Jul-22 20:42:50

‘Evening All’

My younger sister loves learning languages and is good at it. She told me once that being left handed helps (seriously - she said it’s a thing how our brains are wired or somesuch). I’m right handed.

Jaxjacky Fri 22-Jul-22 20:09:17

I’m proud of you Blossoming even though I don’t know you ?
MrJ’s flight was delayed an hour, after it was moved a few days ago from 7am to 4:45pm, not happy, a whole day lost and then a bit, Eastern Airways, be warned.
So, met my son and his GF for a drink in the local and I’ll hunt down something to watch on TV.
Enjoy your evening all x

Blossoming Fri 22-Jul-22 19:58:11

Happy cycling ?‍♀️ Soop, remember to start slowly and build up gradually! You will earn a ?or two for sure smile
Thank you for the cheese straws Neine, hope your DH isn’t too badly hurt.

ShazzaKanazza Fri 22-Jul-22 19:41:44

Don’t know what that little box is next to my thumbs up Naughtyneine

ShazzaKanazza Fri 22-Jul-22 19:40:40

Good evening lovely Kitcheners.
Been to the gym today and found it a bit harder than usual with having a week off. Half an hour each on the X Trainer and treadmill and some weights.
Picked up DGS from school. We think he knows he is on holiday now he seemed excited tonight. So we have him two days a week now for six weeks. We’ll find plenty to do with him to pass the time. Lots of parks I think and the beach.

Naughtyneine another funny story ? looking forward to the tic tale. Just to let you know I’m gluten free so can’t indulge in your cheese straws so if you can sort that I’d be grateful??

Maw pleased you are sorted with your smart meter.

Im just enjoying a Friday night glass of red so I’ll say goodnight and speak soon. X

Grandmabatty Fri 22-Jul-22 18:14:10

Dragonfly how awful! That would give you a fright. Blossoming thank you. The headache has abated. I've drunk a lot of water today which has also helped. I love languages and have a working vocabulary in French, German, Italian and Russian. I might try Greek.
A visit to Aldi this morning to top up the food stores and I was all set for a quiet afternoon when an old friend messaged to say she was in the area. I'm so glad the house was clean and tidy! Three hours later and she's just away. Pie and beans for dinner. Have a good evening Kitcheners.

MawtheMerrier Fri 22-Jul-22 18:01:16

Yay! The gizmo that came with the Smart meter is up and running and tells me I have used £1.27 worth of leccy today.
I’m afraid I can now bore for Britain on energy usage!

brook2704 Fri 22-Jul-22 17:54:40

Oh dragonfly what a very unpleasant and shocking thing to happen - no wonder you’re shaken up by it. So pleased you came into the kitchen though, there’s always lots of friendly support here when needed. I hope whoever sent the email contacts you to apologise at the very least
Another busy day here so I’m going to chill out with a cuppa and catch up on all the kitchen news ?

Naughtyneine Fri 22-Jul-22 17:04:26

Oh my Goodness Dragonfly.... Not a nice thing to happen but I have a feeling you will both look back on it and have a giggle...I think it was Mrs Brown's boys that had an episode that had Grandaddy pretending to be dead so he could find out what people thought of him...as I recall when nobody said anything he sat bolt upright in the coffin and shouted" Have none of yoose got anything nice to say about me'. I expect at the next social occasion you will both be treated like royalty!!!
Willow looks like his Great Granny... Same eyes methinks.
Well no real traumas today thankfully...I attacked the stairs with the super dooper thingy that I got from Amazon... It's a thing for getting pet hair up easily and works an absolute treat. I have to say that having grey carpet is such a boon when you have a similar coloured Cane Corso (Italian Mastiff to you and me). The fur just blended in and out wasn't until yesterday that I noticed that the carpet seemed plusher at the edges than the other bits...and running my hand along an edge produced a rolling wave closely matched by one the other side when I did the same. Oops... Well maybe the additional layer helped cushion the fall of DOH last week.
Update on the naked flying acrobat is that he is still in a lot of pain around his right pelvis and hip. I keep muttering A and E but I think he is put off by a possibly many hour wait. I thought I'd test quite now bad he is by trying on that new bra and pants that slipped into my basket in ASDA when all I'd gone on for was bread. I'm glad to say his face brightened considerably when I just happened to stroll in wearing the pink and purple ensemble (it looks better than it sounds). Bless him...I think he'll live!!!!! We have friends visiting (they are staying in their motor home close by) so tomorrow we'll be showing them the beautiful scenery in South Somerset/North Devon... It doesn't matter how many times we do it... We still pinch ourselves that this is our home now.
Happy Friday Evening everyone... I've popped some cheese straws on the side with a bottle of vino... Remind me to tell you the tic tale sometime too...

soop Fri 22-Jul-22 16:54:52

Blossoming I'm about to mount my exercise bike. I blame thank you.

Have spent an afternoon washing and cleaning out Sweetie Pie's so-called chalet. All her rugs are now smelling sweet. No doubt she will disapprove. Tough!

Hey ho, on my bike I go...

Until tomorrow smile moon and thank you for your company.

Blossoming Fri 22-Jul-22 16:45:48

Welsh always sounds so beautiful and musical Dragonfly, I know a few words from visiting friends in Wales when I was young. My (I think) 3x great grandparents came from Wales.

dragonfly46 Fri 22-Jul-22 16:40:05

We have Welsh friends so I started to learn Welsh Blossoming. I am afraid I didn't get far. I do speak fluent Dutch but not much use in the world!

Blossoming Fri 22-Jul-22 16:38:03

I’ve been inspired by another thread to start learning Scottish Gaelic! They say learning a language is good for the brain.

Blossoming Fri 22-Jul-22 16:28:39

Good afternoon dear Kitcheners. It’s been drizzling on and off all day and it’s lovely! Still 19° with a bit of a breeze, it’s fresh and comfortable. I’ve done my exercises and cycling and am feeling saintly ? grin. I’m motivated to keep going now that I have seen some results on the scales. Also my muscle strength is improving which helps my mobility greatly. My hospital physio was fond of saying “Use it or lose it”.

I hope it’s all sorted now Dragonfly, I think an apology, a bouquet and a bottle of something nice is in order!

I hope those plans come to naught Nannytopsy, I’m glad we’re surrounded by water as it makes development less likely, but we are still affected by nearby roadworks. We had quite a lot of disruption recently due to flood defences being built further upriver.

Hope your headache has departed Grandmabatty.

soop Fri 22-Jul-22 14:41:17

dragonfly THANK you for the explanation. Boy! I wouldn't want to be the person who failed to double check the essential details.

soop Fri 22-Jul-22 14:36:04

Nannytopsy I feel your pain. I know beyond a shadow of doubt that I would be totally distraught if I was in your shoes. (hugs)

Grannmarie Enjoy your park walk with your friend. My eldest son takes part in the Victoria Park run in Leicester every weekend...come rain or shine.

Urms This year has flown by. At one point I was thinking, heck, it will be ages before the family gathering. Today, I realised that we are almost there. Now for the task of deciding what to take. It's only a weekend but we'll be visiting several people and enjoying a few treats. The best being together with the great grandchildren for extra special cuddles. grin

Wishing Mr Jax a pleasant family golf day in Ireland. Trusting that the weather will remain kind for you.

dragonfly46 Fri 22-Jul-22 14:32:52

Apparently a golf club member is a reporter on the local rag and it would seem someone with the same name had died and he then contacted the golf club.
Without checking they announced it.
They are the ones with egg on their face now!
My DH hasn’t actually played golf for 7 years since he had Legionnaires disease although he is a social member.
It was amazing how many people remember him and have contacted him.
Fortunately the retraction went out fairly quickly.

soop Fri 22-Jul-22 14:23:39

Dear Dragonfly I am speechless. shock
Please will you enlighten us lot if and when you discover the source of the message? flowers

SueDonim Fri 22-Jul-22 14:01:01

How awful, Dragonfly! ? What a terrible thing to have to read. I hope you manage to find out what on Earth the golf club was thinking of. Apart from anything else, even if the worst had happened, why were they sending out emails without having contacted you and asked your permission?? Huge data privacy issue, there.

As you say, knowing how well your Dh is thought of must be of some comfort but my goodness, you really don’t need that. flowers

ShazzaKanazza Fri 22-Jul-22 12:59:01

That must have been an incredible shock.?
I’m sure who sent the e mail must feel terrible. Like you say the only good thing is knowing how much people care.
It will certainly be a talking point x
