WELCOME. How pleased I am to be able to say...we have a new gathering place.

Wheniwasyourage Sat 16-Jul-22 21:26:59

Haven't been in for a while (but still grateful for the support offered when I popped in to talk about DH's broken leg). Here is some red wine for anyone who fancies it.

Urmstongran, I do envy you your view of the station. I love watching trains. We can sometimes hear them from here if the wind is in the right direction, but can't see them.

Hope those of you in the south get on all right with the heat wave. Thinking about you all. flowers brew brew

Aw thank you GG13 he had a wonderful birthday. As his mum said ‘one very lucky little boy’.

Urmstongran Sat 16-Jul-22 20:43:26

Maw ?for grandma duties today, at the drop of a hat and (unlike us) not just round the corner either! Yes indeed, another adult in the room can make all the difference!

GrannyGravy13 Sat 16-Jul-22 20:41:20

Dropping in to wish The Boy Wonder a very happy birthday ??????

Pleased he had a good party Urmstongran

‘Evening All’

A different pic this evening in this warm weather! This was the train station at 8pm tonight in buzzy Urmston on a Saturday evening! I can hear the chattering and vibes from up here on my balcony! Love it. Those on the platform opposite are waiting for the train in 10 minutes to Irlam, Warrington or Liverpool for their night out. Remember what it was like to be young and anticipatory for the night ahead? I do love people watching from up here!

A great birthday party this afternoon indoors at the local leisure centre for our Boy Wonder who is 10y old this weekend. Grandad was ref at one stage with L’il Miss allowed to blow the whistle for the ⚽️ game which, as you can imagine, she absolutely loved! That match was 6-all (clever grandad!) and she had to blow the whistle 12 times! She was in her element.

What I loved to hear was that a boy from our Boy Wonder's class who is non-sporty and is apparently somewhere on the spectrum with difficulties in some areas, attended the party and was chosen to be on the team he wanted. His mum said he’d been looking forward to this all week and hoping very much to be included in the way he wished. He had a great time! Our Boy Wonder had made sure he was part of the team and all the boys clapped when he scored a goal. His mum said it made her day to see him so happy. To be honest - it made ours too.

Popping in to see what you have all been up to!
SOS text from D1 today as eldest GS and SIL had left for their massive bike ride with a group of nearly 100 from GS’s school, from Hull to Felixstowe over the next 6 days (in this heat! ???) the other 2 had been at each other’s throats non- stop and she was (at 7.30) already at the end of her tether! I’m sure we’ve all been there! So a neighbour said she would pop in to Rosie at intervals and off I set to Birmingham where I have had a lovely day! The kids perked up and calmed down - another adult just changes the dynamic, doesn’t it?
Anyway I consider my granny duties well and truly discharged for a bit - 4 days in London with D3 and now a day with D1, apart from Christmas and birthdays this must be about the first time I have seen all 6 grandchildren within 2 weeks!
Zonked now, though and getting ready to do the square root of nothing for the next 3 days ????
TOYA xx

Yia lovely pic of Oscar fishing x

ShazzaKanazza Sat 16-Jul-22 18:33:13

Good evening dear Kitcheners another hot day here. Hubs had cranked up the bbq. Our tipple tonight is a Prosecco with lemoncello we were watching the last episode of Two Doors Down and that’s what got me thinking of it.

We’ve been packing for three nights in London tomorrow god help us? DH has been getting the garden prepared for us going away so we don’t lose anything. The beetroot we are getting off the veg patch is so sweet and I’m cooking runner beans and French beans as well from the garden. I’ll toss them in lemon butter when they are cooked yum. They’ll go nice with the burgers lol.

Enjoy your evening everyone wish us luck with the train tomorrow. Xx

Yiayia4 Sat 16-Jul-22 17:58:13

Evening everyone.Plenty of chilled rose here for you Kittylester.
Granmarie I’m so pleased your DH is recovering well, you must feel so relieved.
It’s been very hot again today, we’ve been to watch number 2 son and Oscar fishing.Oscar did really well it so good for him and a nice hobby.
Have a lovely evening all Yamas.

soop Sat 16-Jul-22 17:30:59

Cheers, my dears. Or, as they say in bonnie Scotia - Slainte.

I shall leave you all with a cheerful smile and trust that we'll be back together tomorrow.

Stay cooel and drink plenty of water. Do not over tire yourselves. Housework and gardening can wait. I say so. moon

mrshat Sat 16-Jul-22 17:14:27

If it's the 'hard stuff' we're drinking, it is always a Jameson's for me!! Cheers!

kittylester Sat 16-Jul-22 17:05:50

Afternoon all. Just popping in for a quick catch up.

None of the gard stuff for me thanks, a chilled rose will be fine. I often buy dh a good bottle of whisky for his birthday but he still has some undrinkable so I'd better not this year.

Any other suggestions would be welcome though.

Welcome to any new members that I have missed. Back later.

brook2704 Sat 16-Jul-22 16:57:45

It’s quite warm and cloudy here in Inverness today, no breeze really to cool things down. We treated ourselves to breakfast at Dobbies and had a browse around but didn’t see much to buy. I’ve been cutting back a few large shrubs this afternoon and DH has been feeding it all through the shredder for his compost bin.
We’ve got home made burgers and salad for tea so that’ll do nicely later
I remember getting a sixpence I think soop but I’m not too sure! I’m sure your very special friends delighted in sharing a wee dram with you and mr soop how lovely and worth every penny ?

soop Sat 16-Jul-22 16:18:05

Blossoming Glenmorangie was a great favourite of my late father. Middle son also appreciates it's mellowness. Please, get well soon. flowers

Urms Your stepfather has a delightfully quirky of humour. grin

Nannytopsy Your lovely sunset is like a watercolour painting. MrS enjoys the occasional dram of Ardmore. We recently had a dram at our friend's home. It was the BEST that I've ever tasted. I asked him, was it Scottish etc., we were surprised to hear that it is made in the Lakeland area of England. He then told us that it was reserved for special friends. Why? It cost £80 a bottle. No wonder I enjoyed it. shock

brook was it sixpence or a shilling that we as children were gifted from the tooth fairy? That would be in the 40s. I recall running along the street to my Nana's home with a tooth in my hanky. I must have dropped it on the way and was heartbroken when I had no tooth to show her. She was a good Nana, she gave me a shilling anyway.

Nannytopsy Doze away. Many of ^us lot* will be feeling the need for more than forty winks. It isn't hot here. It's a pleasant day and there is a gentle breeze. Just about right for we two.

Hellogirl1 Sat 16-Jul-22 16:01:53

Thank you Soop, I don`t think I`d be as keen on the site now that they`ve tarted it up, I loved it in it`s natural state.
It`s flipping hot here, so many fans on the electric people must be making a fortune from this heatwave!

soop Sat 16-Jul-22 15:57:14

Shazza hmm I shall give some serious thought to the matter of the water chute should there be a hosepipe ban. I agree that you will need a plan B.

Ladyleftfieldlover You have made a wise decision not to head for London in the sweltering heat. You do have recent happy memories of romantic Vienna. That was a bonus.

Jax Is your dear husband really so youthful? How lovely is that. My 81st is on the horizon followed by Mr S's 82nd. We well remember our 60th. We were preparing to move to Scotland where we intended building our third home. Those were the days. We had super-sonic energy to spare.

Grandmabatty You are obviously a much-loved grandma. smile

Hellogirl1 We said hello to dear David a couple of days ago. You would hardly recognise the campsite since it changed ownership.

riete You do not need to slave over a hot iron. There is always cake (virtually calorie-free) for all our Kitcheners. Help yourself. grin

Grannmarie Doctor Kildare made many a maiden's heart flutter. wink

Nannytopsy Sat 16-Jul-22 14:20:52

Another quiet kitchen. I am struggling to stay awake today despite exciting rugby matches and T20 cricket to watch. The person asleep in the corner is me.

brook2704 Fri 15-Jul-22 22:43:47

Beautiful sunset nannytopsy thanks for the picture

brook2704 Fri 15-Jul-22 22:42:54

A late visit to the kitchen as just in from DD2s house. Pleased to say they’ve all returned safely from holiday and DGS has been collected from his cub camp. They’re all happy but exhausted. DGD aged 7 proudly showed me a big gap in her front teeth as the two top front ones came out last week - she’s now £2 better off thanks to the tooth fairy!
Cheers blossoming hope you’re better soon and sleep well everyone

Nannytopsy Fri 15-Jul-22 22:07:44

Thanks Blossoming - Tus as my parents said. To us!
DH is marginally better in the leg ulcers depart- latest infection cleared at least.
We are sitting in the garden with Ardmore ( him) and Grand Marnier ( me ). Help yourselves!
This is a Suffolk sunset. Not as dramatic as soops but calm! Lots of hares about today - how I love this county!

MawtheMerrier Fri 15-Jul-22 22:03:10

Cheers, Blossoming! ? here’s to your restored health!

Grandmabatty Fri 15-Jul-22 21:44:44

Thank you Blossoming. A Glenmorangie will go down nicely. Get well soon. I'm off to bed too. Good night kitcheners.

Jaxjacky Fri 15-Jul-22 21:23:45

Thank you Blossoming your health, à votre santé ?.

Urmstongran Fri 15-Jul-22 21:16:07

‘Evening All’

We’ve had a grandchild free day, so (a) with stepfather at a lunch out and then (b) in a bar later this afternoon with friends, we’ve enjoyed an alcofrolic time! As you do, occasionally. Sat here now, sipping water to level things out a bit. I shall step back from the keyboard tonight. Certainly no N&P threads whilst I’m over the driving limit!

Talking of driving (not) the car hasn’t been looked at yet by the mechanic. Tomorrow hopefully. When we walked past it at lunchtime my stepfather suggested we chuck a couple of Aspros under the bonnet. I’ve heard of worse suggestions ?

Blossoming Fri 15-Jul-22 21:07:50

Good evening dear Kitcheners, just stopping by to leave a rather nice Glenmorangie and a box of chocolate fudge brownies. I’m off to bed now with George Orwell’s 1984 audiobook. I will get better if it kills me!
