WELCOME. How pleased I am to be able to say...we have a new gathering place.

Nannytopsy Tue 02-Aug-22 23:42:42

Another late arrival in the kitchen. Sorry I am so late. The last lot of washing has been done but there is so much ironing. Soop? How are you fixed for a bit of virtual ironing?
? for those who mourn and for those of us who are lucky, we must seize each day. My husband also says life’s too short to drink awful wine!
WI committee this afternoon and I am off with another member to buy new crockery etc tomorrow. It’s always fun spending someone else’s money!
It’s been hot and humid but hasn’t turned to storms like a normal summer.
Sleep tight everyone ?

(((hugs))) to dear kitcheners who are reminiscing, our memories are precious.

Currently lolling on the sofa after a busy day with The Imp, I love him dearly but he keeps Grandma & Grandpa busy.

Hiraeth, AnnSixty and HelloGirl my thoughts are with you. I cannot imagine (I can't bear to imagine if I am honest) your losses and I pray you will find some solace in the more eloquent words of other posters. You are not alone. You are in the thoughts of many.
A quiet day. Heavily humid which ddog found tiring. Visited the local library. I so appreciate these little normalities. I still wear a mask but understand others wish not to do so. Haven't really got my head round the new normal or are we back to normal? I do know that I am grateful for every day. Love to all.

Look after yourself gramdmabatty and hoping you’re feeling much better soon - I think staying in bed is a very good idea until you feel much better

? for you for Friday hireath and hoping you’ll be thinking of happy times you spent together.

? for you too hellogirl, also hoping your blood test results are fine

Thank you for the name of the beautiful yellow flower soop I’d not heard of it before but I’ve made a note of it and I’m going to have a look for one next time I’m at the garden centre. We’ve got a sunny spot in the garden where I think it would look good. We don’t really have much success with clematis here either, maybe the winters are too cold. We’ve only got one type that does really well and it’s the Nelly Moser, that really flourishes but many others that we’ve tried struggle and eventually give up. Yours are beautiful muse.

Im quite late in the kitchen tonight as we had a last minute request to have the DGC stay over tonight so I’ve just settled them both in bed. Not that they’re asleep yet, there’s sure to be footsteps through to the lounge soon ..

Happy 8th Birthday to Oscar Yia, what a lovely place to be for his birthday I’m sure he’ll be having a great time

A lovely memory naughtyneine thanks for sharing

Beautiful DGC Jax smiling together in the water - where was it if you don’t mind saying?

Hope Urms has arrived safely in Spain and is having a? or two!

Blossoming Tue 02-Aug-22 20:24:52

Good evening dear Kitcheners, I have cycled, done some laundry (a never ending task and there are only two of us!), practised my Gaelic, chatted with a couple of friends and now falling asleep in my chair! I’m definitely improving though.
Hope you feel better soon Grandmabatty.
TOYA

Jaxjacky Tue 02-Aug-22 19:44:40

Hellogirl for you ?
Magical Naughty a true catharsis.
Played bowls this afternoon, not very well, got better as it went on, I need practice and more practice.
My daughter sent a lovely picture of Imogen and Fin paddling, we’re lucky with our walks locally.
Dinner is a hotchpotch tonight, I’ll sort mine in a minute.
Enjoy your evening all x

ShazzaKanazza Tue 02-Aug-22 19:41:31

Good afternoon dear Kitcheners. I’m sitting with feet up with a glass of wine. We’ve had DGS for two full days. Very tiring but he’s such a joy. It was a bit of a challenge at times with a few head bangs when he’s frustrated. ? heartbreaking to watch. He’s terribly addictive though and already missing him❤️

Naughtyneine you make me laugh and cry? you should be an author. You are so interesting. I’d love to meet you all.

Annsixty, Hireath and Hellogirl such poignant days for you all to go through. My DH is with me and the thought one day he might not be is too terrible to even think about ❤️

Muse your clematis are gorgeous. We only have one but it’s hidden in the leaves of a magnolia tree. We see a little purple flower peeping out occasionally.

Grandmabatty so sorry you are feeling so rubbish. ? rest as much as possible and lots of water.

Tonight we are watching Ted Lasso on Apple TV. We are binge watching it.,What a delightful programme it is.
Enjoy your evening. TOYA xx

Grannmarie Tue 02-Aug-22 19:22:44

Thank you, Naughtyneine.

Hellogirl, thinking of you. ??

Naughtyneine Tue 02-Aug-22 18:55:20

Annsixty , Hellogirl and Hiraeth... I'm sending you all love and assurance that those we love and are loved by in life never leave us. They are just out of sight for now. After my period of being poorly a few years back that I mentioned last week. I set myself the biggest challenge to get back to being me. I went to Australia and New Zealand and travelled and drove the east coast of Oz and drove myself all over both South and North Island of NZ. I was terrified but I knew if I didn't do something I would stay behind that wall forever. There wasn't one place that I didn't arrive at and cry and New Year's Eve 2015 was the worst. I woke up in a room near Fox glacier and I was sad and couldn't think of any good reason to actually want to go on. It was a horrible feeling and knowing the effect me not coming back from that trip would have on my daughters made me get out of that hotel room and drive.. I didn't know where I was heading but within minutes I passed a tiny white clapperboard Catholic church. I parked up and went in...it was still Advent and there was no fancy crib only a beautiful embroidered altar cloth depicting the Nativity. I sat in the front row of that empty little church and I wept ( it's making me cry thinking about it now). My heart was breaking for all that had been and was no more. It wasn't a pretty cry...it was full on tears dripping off my face and a very sniffy snotty nose too and suddenly at my side I was aware of my Mum and Dad....Dad had died when I was 9 and Mum 7 years before but they were both there a hand on each shoulder comforting their child just as they would have in life. It was an amazing moment and I knew then for sure that those we love are always near... And especially when we need them most.
Grandmabatty...I hope you feel much better soon.
Urms... Have a fabulous time.
Happy Belated Anniversary Muse.
Loving Boris Yia.
Hope your PP recovers soon Grandmarie... We are lucky to still have priests to say Mass.

Hellogirl1. For you ?

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 02-Aug-22 18:06:25

Well, the kitchen paintwork is nearly finished - probably by tomorrow lunchtime. OH had a little wobble and said he didn’t like it, so I told him that was tough. They will start on the hall and landing tomorrow so OH and I have been moving everything bookcases, other cupboards, sewing machine, pictures, mirror. Then of course we have to put it all back! I had a lovely time at our WI Coffee morning. One of our members has just celebrated her 80th. She, her daughter and three granddaughters went to Paris to celebrate.

Hiraeth Tue 02-Aug-22 16:09:34

soopscomfortingkitchen is so heart warming .Thanks all of you for the way you handle our grief and pain .
Like soop tends to say „ you are a lovely lot“

Hellogirl1 Tue 02-Aug-22 15:03:29

AnnSixty, I know how you feel. I`ve just gone through my 5th anniversary since David died, it would have been our 59th.
Muse, your clematis is gorgeous! I`m not a gardener, but I love to see a beautiful garden. I`ve only ever seen pale pink clematis, so that purple one was a surprise.
I`ve been for blood tests this morning, requested by the heart failure nurses. Just for a change, there was no problem, usually, after several failed attempts, they end up getting it out of the back of my hand, which I really don`t like.

Grandmabatty Tue 02-Aug-22 14:47:56

Good afternoon kitcheners. Thank you for your cheering messages. I don't feel a lot better yet though. The headache has subsided a little but the throat is like swallowing razor blades. I have a temperature too and, despite being tired, I can't sleep! It's a buggeration, as Soop would say. I think I'll retest in a couple of days. Annsixty and Hireath my good wishes to you both on a day which must be packed with memories.
Blossoming I don't think you are nagging me ?. Just looking out for a pal. I've had a shower so I feel less disgusting and I've got up for a while. It will run its course. In the meantime, I'm being self indulgent and staying in bed. I'll have to throw clothes on to put the bucket out, else pervy neighbour would have a field day. I'll do that much later on. I wouldn't want to scare the nice neighbours with how I look. Muse keep an eye on that husband of yours. No overdoing things. Have a good afternoon kitcheners.

Jaxjacky Tue 02-Aug-22 13:26:01

Precious memories annesixty and Hiraeth ?

Yiayia4 Tue 02-Aug-22 13:17:01

Anne and Hiraeth. Thinking of you both have a gentle day.??
Sending healing thoughts to you Grandmabatty and hope you soon feel better.
Very pleased Mr Muse is making good progress he has a very good nurse of course!
Good that Sweetie pie is visiting the 5 star cat hotel Soop.

Feeling a bit worn out,Its been full on having Harper now Boris but they are fun.
Oscar is 8 years old today spoke to him this morning and he’s having a great time at Centre Parks.

It’s going to be very hot this afternoon so I plan on doing very little.
Have a good day everyone.

soop Tue 02-Aug-22 12:59:05

Hiraeth your memory made me smile.

soop Tue 02-Aug-22 12:56:57

I was late starting the day. Now, of course, I'm chasing my own shadow. I also have a lot of ironing waiting to be dealt with. I shall watch the games at the same time. Such talent.

Grannmarie Tue 02-Aug-22 12:56:06

Thinking of Annsixty and Hiraeth, hoping and praying that you both find some comfort in gentle memories of happy times together. ???

soop Tue 02-Aug-22 12:54:18

Yia Boris is exceedingly handsome. We have a wee lodger at the moment. Sweetie Pie arrived for breakfast and has even wandered a short way into the kitchen. Sweetie Pie is now lolling on the utility room mat. We feel blest.

Grandmabatty So sorry that you are feeling under par. Try to relax and keep hydrated. Get well soon.

muse The clematis is a glorious colour. We haven't been successful with growing one to date. Perhaps the salt sea air isn't much to it's liking.

brook The Latin name for the yellow daisy is Inula hookeri. Can you tell me the common name? It likes full sunshine and plenty of moisture. It grows close to our gigantic gunnera.

Nannytopsy, blow the ironing. The quilt sounds much more important and exciting. Us lot look forward to seeing your finished work of art...in due course.

Urms I had a record of that song back when I was very much younger. I have an ancient Nokia phone. The family think that it is so last century. So what! It has served me well. No fancy gizmos, but then I don't need any. Receiving and making a call is enough for old fashioned moi.

soop Tue 02-Aug-22 12:35:26

A gentle (group hug) for our annsixty.

annsixty Tue 02-Aug-22 12:15:12

Thankyou all, you are very kind.
I have been out for coffee ( tea actually) with a friend who is moving away soon and I am going to miss her.
My GD and I are going to have a nice meal tonight and I will be raising a glass .. or two… to my H and my memories.

muse Tue 02-Aug-22 11:46:45

Big hug for you annsixty.
