Librocubicularist, a noun meaning ‘a person who reads in bed’.

I think there are many librocubicularists on GN, including me!

I must add this to my CV grin

this is for annodomini and anyone else who wants to know how to pronounce librocubicularist: www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9Xxo2GuF40
er ... well ... it's one of seven different pronunciations i found before i gave up.

so maybe a second (and third) definition of the word would be, "either someone who wants to use a different pronunciation every time they use a word, or, one who wants to be always certain that they've pronounced the word correctly, whilst the other person hasn't ! ?

Do I need to know how to pronounce it? I'm not likely to use it in normal conversation. However, having said that, I realise that it is my usual occupation.

I'm a fully paid up member of this club... what a great word!
librocubicularists. Can't sleep unless I read first.

Oops I don't think that solivagant describes me !

Looking up those words there's a lot more of wonderful new ones .
Easy to forget the essential things that need to be done when you can look up one word after the after !

It describes me .

whilst hunting for the roots of the word librocubicularist, i came across
solivagant: someone who travels or wanders alone.

might that be easier to bring up in polite conversation?

We need a convention of librocubiculuarists

Now I'm wondering what the collective noun is for them.

A snuggling?

Another member for the librocubicularist club here too. Wonder how I can casually introduce the word into conversation when I am next on duty in the library. My fellow readers will be really impressed smile

Ailidh Sun 26-Jun-22 19:06:13

Hm. I'm a Tellycubicularist. Contrary to all the advice, it helps me get to sleep ?

Blossoming Sun 26-Jun-22 18:17:41

Someone I follow on Twitter mentioned it, I thought people here would appreciate it.

granfromafar Sun 26-Jun-22 18:03:26

How did you come across the word?

granfromafar Sun 26-Jun-22 18:00:51

Thanks, Blossoming! That describes me as well.
I will try and remember the word but not it sure I'll manage to use it in a conversation any time soon!

They used to give us antidisestablishment!

Antidisestablishmentarianism was a word one of our teachers used to throw into spelling bees!

*Fairfraise’ we used to have class contests using the word Constantinople. I don’t think Istanbul would work as well though.

Constantinople is a very long word, Blossoming
How do you spell it? wink

We need a convention of librocubiculuarists.
It will be a quiet event, obviously, but I'm up for it, and I seem to have other takers, here.

Antonia Sun 26-Jun-22 16:41:00

I do it but I can't say it.

Witzend Sun 26-Jun-22 16:04:46

Does a Kindle count? In bed I’m more usually a kindlecubicularist - largely because I don’t need a light on, so with windows open there’s less likelihood of pesky moths flapping around. Not to mention the dreaded daddy long legs when in season!

Callistemon21 Sun 26-Jun-22 14:30:41

Ps yes, I read in bed!!

ExDancer

How on earth do you pronounce it?

Librocubicularist

I looked on YouTube and it seemed to have

Librocubicularist

Libb-ro-cube-ick-yoo-lar-ist

But my instinct was to pronounce it as

Librocubicularist

Lee-bro-cube-ick-yoo-lar-ist

Though I suppose it could be like Library

Librocubicularist

Lie-bro-cube-ick-yoo-lar-ist

fairfraise Sun 26-Jun-22 13:24:39

Blossoming Sun 26-Jun-22 13:17:07

ExDancer I think pronunciation is OK if you break it down and pronounce the ‘cubicular’ bit like funicular. Spelling is another matter, I had to re type it several times.

That's me! Sounds like one of those words they used to give us in school, to see who could make the most words from it. Only there isn't an E !
