I always wash underwear yes, but I can honestly say I do not wash anything else! Maybe I’m a mucky pup!

No!

Always wash because once I got body lice from a Made in India dress I wore without washing
Never again !!!!

Grantanow Tue 28-Jun-22 11:45:55

I never have and probably won't in the future.

Nope! But I tend to buy from well known online shops rather than actual clothes shops - when I do buy clothes [including undies] and [touch wood] I've never had a problem except with very occasional sizing

Yes always as years ago a friend's daughter bought trousers from a well known shop and caught public lice from them. You never know who has tried things on before you bought it. Also ringworm can be caught from fabric that's been touched by someone who has it.

I never wash anything first unless it is particularly soiled (but I probably wouldn't buy it in the first place anyway) - one of my colleagues washes everything before she wears it, particularly children's clothes but not sure it really matters in the end and, quite frankly, I have enough washing to do as it is!!

Yes. EVERYTHING!

Paperbackwriter Tue 28-Jun-22 12:00:37

Unless something smells of Old Lady Wardrobe, I don't even wash things I've bought on eBay before wearing them! If they're clean, what on earth is the point? What am I going to catch?

Always wash new bedding& towels, not always new clothing. If cotton items smell of that finishing starch and feel weird I’ll wash them gently, if woollen sweaters that have been in packaging then no. Underwear, yes as again they usually have that finishing starch smell. I hate to see a man dressed in a shirt that is just out of the shirt packaging and you can see all of the folds in the fabric ? usually men who are unmarried.

No, never have but have noticed that younger generation do ...covid?

jangeo44 Tue 28-Jun-22 12:05:56

No never

Edith81 Tue 28-Jun-22 12:06:17

I wash everything that I will wear and even sheets and pillowcases. Years ago I bought new pillowcases and used them that night. Next morning I woke up with a rash all over my face and neck.

I heard of someone who bought a dress and wore it and put the labels back on and got her money back. I was appalled but just goes to show!

This maybe a controversial comment but here goes,
does nobody wonder what causes the rising rates of cancer
when our food and clothes are constantly subjected to
chemical sprays?

MRGUDER Tue 28-Jun-22 12:40:01

Years ago I bought a cheesecloth shirt, made in India, and got an awful allergic reaction to it. Still don't wash everything before wearing it though, just avoid cheesecloth. grin

I always wash new clothes before wearing. We don't know how fabric has been stored or for how long. Also if you are buying an item which has previously been returned if could be dirty or worn for a time.

rosieod1 Tue 28-Jun-22 12:46:09

Everything. Always. Makes me shudder to think how many times something may have been tried on and touched by others

Philippa111 Tue 28-Jun-22 12:49:00

I always wash everything before I wear it. Firstly I want to get rid of all the processes and handling they have been through and secondly I like the feel of things that have been washed ....the process makes them 'mine'.

TiggyW Tue 28-Jun-22 12:50:58

I’ve never thought about washing new clothes, but maybe I should. I always wash clothes from charity shops. New bedding usually has a label advising to wash before use, so I do.

Nannan2 Tue 28-Jun-22 13:02:25

Yes always.Always have, but especially now we've got covid, monkey pox and God knows what else in circulation... Most of the labels tell you to anyway?

Beanie654321 Tue 28-Jun-22 13:07:03

Yes as you never know if some one has tried on

Nannan2 Tue 28-Jun-22 13:08:33

I bet after reading some of these about rashes & body lice etc you're all going to wash them first in future aren't you?????

razzmatazz Tue 28-Jun-22 13:10:17

Never. Clothes are never quite the same after washing. Seems to take some of the stuffing out of them so they are limp. Don't see the reason for it myself.
