I always wash underwear yes, but I can honestly say I do not wash anything else! Maybe I’m a mucky pup!

Only if it was bought from a charity shop.

Never. Although I may now after reading Dilly's comment!

Franbern Tue 28-Jun-22 16:25:31

NEVER.....and am not going to change. First world problems. We are all far too clean. It horrifies me the amount of bleach that has been used over the past couple of years, and then going into our sewerage.

I agree with the poster who commented that we need to keep our own immune systems working properly. So many allergies, etc are being caused by the over-use of far too many cleaning agents.

It has recently been proven that showering.bathing more than three times a week can actually cause problems.

Having survived my 81 years without ever having washed a new item, think I will continue in this manner.

Always, I never wear anything without washing it first - you never know who has tried it on before you and whether they were clean..

Ros18 Tue 28-Jun-22 16:37:36

Yes I always do!

I couldn’t agree more. I’m often horrified on here when I see the utter waste of one of our most precious resources.

Yellowmellow Tue 28-Jun-22 16:41:31

Always . You don't know ow who's tried them on, or where they've been stored

SueEH Tue 28-Jun-22 16:42:03

I once took up a very expensive prom dress for a friend’s daughter. He came to pick it up and said he was taking it home to wash it. I was horrified! Apparently that’s what his mum always did.

Nevet

BlueSapphire Tue 28-Jun-22 16:44:53

No, never, not unless it's something I've bought in a charity shop.

CleoPanda Tue 28-Jun-22 17:02:21

Can honestly say I’ve never washed anything new before wearing/using.
With clothes, I hang on hangars - outside when possible. Bedding/towels etc - unfolded and aired on clothes maid.
Fortunately nobody in my family has ever suffered from skin conditions/allergies.
For me, it would seem a waste of time, effort, energy and resources.
Then again, I hear some odd people use irons. ?

Jess20 Tue 28-Jun-22 17:27:40

Redhead56 surely if there are signs of wear on a new item, lippy etc, you request a different item OR a decent price reduction wink

Nannytopsy Tue 28-Jun-22 17:38:16

No because I think clothes wear well when they are new and often stay new looking for more than one wear, perhaps with an iron. Once washed they lose that newness. Perhaps it’s because my clothes are mostly cotton, linen or wool.

Corkie91 Tue 28-Jun-22 17:53:42

No why would you

BlueSky Tue 28-Jun-22 17:57:09

Always, well if not actually washed rinsed well and put outside to dry in the fresh air.

Greciangirl Tue 28-Jun-22 18:01:25

Absolutely not.
A waste of time and energy.
Only exception is second hand clothes.

SueDonim Tue 28-Jun-22 18:43:20

I try clothes on before I buy them and once bought I wash them before I actually wear them or add them to my wardrobe. The crisp new feeling are the spray on chemicals

But pubic lice or crabs or scabies could be caught simply by trying something on, according to GN.

Betty18 Tue 28-Jun-22 20:00:51

No I don’t . But I will try to buy the item from the back that looks like it hasn’t been tried on.

Mustafafag Tue 28-Jun-22 20:44:52

Bet you wouldn’t be so quick to wash clothes if you didn’t have a washing machine! ? And for the person who said they washed new clothes to get rid of the ‘chemical nasties’ - where do you think they go once you’ve washed them into the sewage system?! Clue - polio/hormones/polyester sludge/micro plastics etc etc. Sadly, down the drain just means the nasties end up elsewhere.

GrannyGear Tue 28-Jun-22 20:48:48

Only if I bought the clothes from a charity shop or jumble sale.

But they’ll end up there anyway after a few outings won’t they? Or do you never wash your clothes…at all?

Catterygirl Tue 28-Jun-22 21:58:13

No, never thought of it. Perhaps I should but think Lettuce has the right idea. Immune system getting a boost.

Candelle Wed 29-Jun-22 01:37:49

Always have, always will.

I once picked up a dress which had fallen onto the shop floor of a well known high street store (Spencer Marks, or similar). I was horrified at the dust and fluff that came up with it. Presumably this was generated by human dead skin cells. Yuck.

I don't have a functioning immune system at the moment so have additional need to ensure new clothing is clean.

I think for those who are happy not washing new items, fine - but they shouldn't denigrate others who for reasons of allergy/skin reactions etc., Do have the need wash clothes before wearing.

I always have and always will as well!
