Are covid jabs useless?

No of course they re not useless I ve had them all and got CoviD but I wasn’t more ill than a bad cold
I think if I hadn’t had the vaccinations I might have been much worse

Well we're going to take all vaccinations offered.

No vaccine in 100 % effective, never has been, probably never will be. My children had all their jabs, but both had whooping cough and one had measles, but mildly

70 years ago, before vaccines, whooping cough came close to killing both my sisters and measles badly affected me and my younger sister. In all we both missed a whole term of school.

So let us get this in proportion COVID is a disease, like flu (despite the vacination) and all those childhood diseases, children are protected from. The vaccines are not 100%. Vaccinated people will catch it, and for most it will a mild disease and death is unlikley.

Now think back to the summer of 2020 and make the comparison.

From my understanding the covid jabs are useless against the omincron variant, so boosters are pointless. We all react to things differently depending on our own immune response with stress levels, diet, vitamin d levels etc being so important. It does seem that the more jabs you have had the worse you are with the omincron variant. We are now on omnicron v.5 and it is getting more and more transmitable, but less harmful. I would consider the vaccine damage done to young people especially males with the massive increase in myocarditis as being more problematic than younger people getting the omnicron variant.

Please explain what irresponsible rubbish I am spreading. I was giving my opinion which is what you do in a discussion. I have never indicated my vaccination status or how many of my family members have died with covid and I am not criticizing anyone for their beliefs. I just want to discuss and hear other peoples opinions on what has been a frightening and painful time for hundreds of thousands of people. The initial post was from a concerned parent of a poorly adult child and I was explaining my thoughts on the whole vaccine debate. Why can we not have a civilized discussion without being ‘cancelled’?

I certainly do not think they are useless. Several in our family some who were CV have caught it and ended up with cold or flu like symptoms or none at all.

I will continue to take any vaccinations offered. I wear a mask in shops, I use hand gel, I avoid too many crowded places (although not always possible.) I’ve had Covid, probably the Kent variant judging from when I got it, and I don’t want it again if I can avoid it.

My DH and I are struggling with Covid at the moment. Both fully vaccinated and boosted. I can only say that if this is how I feel with vaccine, I’d hate to have had it without one. Neither of us has been dangerously ill and it has felt like an extremely debilitating cold virus. The fatigue has been my worst symptom and it’s been the heavy cold for my DH. I will be going for another booster if it’s offered,

I’m up to date with the jabs but am still suffering 2 weeks after first testing positive. My SIL in his 30s is also ill. He looks and feels awful. I still think that the jabs are stopping us from serious illness.

I’ll keep having the immunisations. I’m immune suppressed, a cold can become a chest infection or pneumonia so - I want to do all I can to protect myself. I don’t want to isolate again

Don’t really know what to think at this stage. There doesn’t seem to be any escape, whether you’ve had all the jabs plus extras, and caught Covid multiple times. I guess till they come up with a new jab this is it.

My husband has had 4 jabs. We have taken vitamin D every day since the start of the pandemic. He tested positive yesterday. Fortunately his symptoms are mild at the moment. ?

Herd immunity , even individual immunity once one had caught covid, was always a complete lie. As everyone should have known. Covid is a coronavirus; the common cold is caused by a coronavirus. Does infection with a cold give us immunity? Like hell it does....

The biggest worry with covid is that the virus damages internal organs and brain cells. It can even reactivate other, dormant, illnesses. Its affects on individuals are completely unpredictable. We don't know who is and who isn't susceptible to long term damage. We are storing up a health time bomb by pretending it's just a mild seasonal illness.

It could be mitigated by decent ventilation (particularly in schools) and mask wearing. But the first would cost money which people, especially the government, are reluctant to spend and the second would be a dead duck if the government tried to reimpose it because if Johnson doesn't follow the rules, any rules,, why should anyone else?

Every person has a different immune system, depending on their genetics and their health history for their life up until now., and reacts differently to CoVid, Most people who have had the vaccination get it less badly than people who have not had it, and are less likely to pass it on to anyone else. Your daughter is one of the unlucky ones, but that doesn't mean that it is useless.

Your reaction would be individual to you. Would you stop eating a food you liked because your daughter couldn't stand it? Or would you accept that she is not you, and you are not her?

I was saying what I understand based on my own readings and research I am not criticizing anyones choice to have vaccines. I believe in discussion and choice.

8 fully jabbed adults in this family had it just after Christmas - only one us had anything but the very mildest symptoms, and she had something like a bad cold.

A triple jabbed dd tested positive only last week - just felt tired and a bit ‘coldy’ but fine 24 hours later - and tested negative after only 3 or 4 days.

Some people do unfortunately seem more susceptible, but whether that’s down to their own immune systems, lack of vitamin D or anything else, who knows? Aside from e.g. obesity and extra vulnerability for medical reasons, nobody yet seems to know.

It’s a difficult one Witzend . My immunocompromised son just sneezed his way through omnicron v. 1, I was in bed for a few days with a headache and flu and my asthmatic DH had one day in bed. A friend of mine with 4 jabs was positive for 18 days!
The evidence is certainly there for vitamin d , but as it is so inexpensive it wont be as much benefit to the big pharmas.

I wonder if the scientists that designed this knew how powerful it would be.

I fully agree with vaccinations, I think my good friend would have died without them. Many neighbours in my road have contracted Covid in the past week so I'm masked up again and using hand gel.

Maybe she is one of those unfortunate people who seem to get it worse than others, and she might have even more badly affected without the jabs. She seems to be particularly unfortunate, but that doesn't mean that the jabs don't work for you. You never know, if you maintain your full vaccination, it could well prevent you from passing it on to her in the future.

There's no way of knowing if she'd been even more ill without the jabs Honeysuckleberries. Hope she begins to feel better soon.
