Poor Prince George

Poor George made to sit and swelter at Wimbledon on the hottest day of the year, in a jacket and tie! He should be in the garden, in the shade, playing in the paddling pool with other kids.

I’m sure when the rules were set in stone saying suit, collar and tie were obligatory in the royal box they were intended for adult males not young children. Surely even for adults the rules could be relaxed in extreme temperatures. I think they need to revisit their rule book and have an update.

A few days ago a young female player was challenged on her underwear and her coach hastily came to her rescue and gave her own bra to the player so her game could proceed. Another 2 players went bra-less after their lingerie was deemed unsuitable.

I didn’t watch the tennis, but caught a bit of last night’s on the News. Thought George looked thrilled to be invited to hold the trophy by Novak, and heard his dad say “Don’t drop it!”

As for his suit and no hat etc., I am sure both William and Catherine are well aware of him being in the shade, I don’t imagine any of them swelter in the Royal Box.

Why shouldn’t Roger Federer give him some tennis lessons if George is keen? If Adam Peaty gave him swimming lessons, or Freddie Flintoff cricket coaching, why not? It’s what privileged families are able to do for their offspring, plus an Elton education or whatever.
Makes no difference to any of us really does it?

It’s really good preparation for Prince George, (though I hope he’s not aware yet) that whatever he does or says or wears, he will always be subject to criticism in the media.

More than likely there was a dress code for the royal box which the family stuck to ,perhaps so that they would't have commentators carping about the fact that they didn't stick to the dress code, who do they think they are etc. A bit like we have at the moment.

Poor George. Groomed to be king. I hope that he decides that it is not for him when the time comes and passes the buck to his sister. As for his clothes, if a seven year old is choosing to dress like an old man then what sort of upbringing is that? I thought the Royals in waiting were trying to be modern by
exhibiting a common touch.

He probably wanted to look like his Dad did at that age. He didn’t look particularly unhappy to me. He seemed very interested when Novak fell over, typical kid.

Farzanah Mon 11-Jul-22 14:07:10

We are now in the 21st Century yet younger royals have to parade in 1950s style garb. Just how weird.

BlueBelle Mon 11-Jul-22 14:07:37

I totally agree Parsley why dress a little kid like an old man ( I’m sure the dress code doesn’t relate to an under 14) but he was always dressed strangely as a 2 year old wearing high dark coloured socks
There may not be a royal family by the time it gets to him and then all this childhood time wasted, poor child

BlueBelle Mon 11-Jul-22 14:09:43

He wouldn’t look unhappy nanny8 he doesn’t know any different does he That’s his life, poor little thing
I can see Louis being the one that escapes ?

Ailidh Mon 11-Jul-22 14:13:59

Maybe he just wanted to wear grown up clothes and be like his Dad.

Aldom Mon 11-Jul-22 14:15:03

Prince George appeared to greatly enjoy and appreciate the mens finals.
He seemed relaxed and perfectly happy and comfortable as far as I could see. Above all, he was enjoying a very special treat with his loving parents. He clearly loves tennis. Makes me think of Princess Anne and her daughter Zara, with their love of horses.

Ailidh Mon 11-Jul-22 14:15:22

Oops, sorry Nanna8. My post got stuck and arrived after yours.....

Baggs Mon 11-Jul-22 14:19:23

Re sunhats, isn't the royal box at Wimbledon shaded?

Apparently "smart dress" is required, which for males is shirt, tie, jacket. Tennis Club rules, so prolly not his parents' choice.

Baggs Mon 11-Jul-22 14:20:28

Required for the royal seating area.

westendgirl Mon 11-Jul-22 14:25:52

Thank you Baggs. That is exactly what I said much earlier, so glad you are on the same track. The Cambridges were only sticking to the dress code.no doubt had they not done so it would have caused comment.

Baggs Mon 11-Jul-22 14:28:43

Sorry, I didn't get to your comment, westend, though I did read quite a few comments. They all seemed a bit silly and judgmental to me so I pitched in. It only took a ggl check to find out the tennis club rules. Makes you wonder why people don't.... well, they don't because they want to make silly and judgmental remarks, I suppose.

Smileless2012 Mon 11-Jul-22 14:32:40

I'm sure you're right westendgirl they're damned because they followed the rules and would have been damned if they hadn't.

Anniebach Mon 11-Jul-22 14:38:40

If the child had worn shorts and tee shirt we would have a thread ‘ the royal’s ignore rules’

Smileless2012 Mon 11-Jul-22 14:43:58

Exactly Annie 'one rule for the royal's' etc etc.

MissAdventure Mon 11-Jul-22 14:47:46

Would everyone forget he's a,prince if he didn't wear a shirt and tie?
I'd love to see them break these absolutely pointless "rules".

Calendargirl Mon 11-Jul-22 15:43:16

if a seven year old is choosing to dress like an old man

George is not seven, that’s Charlotte.

He turns nine later this month.

Allsorts Mon 11-Jul-22 15:51:08

Perhaps he loves tennis and wanted to be there, if not he shouldn’t have been. The suit ridiculous. Who would expect anyone to wear collar and tie on the hottest day. Casual much cooler and comfortable especially for a youngster of 7.

Anniebach Mon 11-Jul-22 15:55:01

Would you Miss Adventure ? You would break all rules at all
events ?

FannyCornforth Mon 11-Jul-22 16:03:15

Anniebach

Would you Miss Adventure ? You would break all rules at all
events ?

Yes, I reckon that she probably would! smile

Baggs Mon 11-Jul-22 16:10:19

Nah, I reckon Addy only wants them to break what she sees as pointless rules so we can carry on bitching about royals. ?
