Poor Prince George

Poor George made to sit and swelter at Wimbledon on the hottest day of the year, in a jacket and tie! He should be in the garden, in the shade, playing in the paddling pool with other kids.

Oh bless him, just looked at photos. No hat or sunglasses either. What were they thinking. He could have worn a nice polo shirt and shorts with a cap or hat and sunglasses and no one would have batted and eye!!!! I feel really cross with Katherine and William. Hope they had used sunscreen.

His dad here.

No choice in the matter regarding his clothes, but Prince George comes across as very shy and diffident. He often looks extremely uncomfortable whatever he’s wearing.
I hope the expectations placed on him are not too much for his personality. Charlotte seems more suited to a public role.

If the child was feeling the heat, most mothers would have removed his jacket and tie and requested an umbrella to shade the child.

Where is their sense?

Vintagejazz Mon 11-Jul-22 11:18:01

I thought he looked over dressed for the weather. But as others said, perhaps he insisted on wearing a suit and tie.

I agree he seems like a shy, self effacing child. Charlotte would be a lot happier as future heir I think.

Can it not be an eight year old would want to be at Wimbledon
rather than playing in a paddling pool.

Poppsbaggie Mon 11-Jul-22 11:32:19

Around the world this country is seen as completely bonkers in many respects The dress code for males in the royal box stipulates the wearing of suit, shirt and tie. In temperatures hitting 30 degrees! If George were a member of the hoi polloi, I suggest Social Services wold be summoned. And rightly so.

Davida1968 Mon 11-Jul-22 11:35:09

Even my DH (who usually doesn't notice these things) said to me: " there's a young child in the crowd wearing a shirt, tie, & jacket - in this weather! How awful!"

henetha Mon 11-Jul-22 11:35:34

Around the world this country is seen as completely wonderful in many respects too. Lots of people want to come here to live.

Nandalot Mon 11-Jul-22 11:37:27

Like you, travelsafar, I thought he should be wearing a sun hat. It felt as though they had made no allowances for the weather. Rather irresponsible.

Poor wee boy. Who would have objected if he'd been dressed in more age appropriate clothes? A neat polo shirt and shorts would surely have been ok and fitted the dress code under the circumstances.

Exactly what I was thinking. He’s nine and this sort of clothing would have been smart and far more comfortable for him.

Elegran Mon 11-Jul-22 11:57:27

Perhaps that was his own choice? He seems to be quite a formal wee boy, and he will have seen that photo of his father (I think at Wimbledon?) in exactly the same outfit, so he may be perfectly happy to conform to the dress code. I think I would have chosen a light-weight summer suit for him, though - there are some really smart ones that don't pot roast the wearer.

Exactly but would Prince George been given an option.?

BlueBelle Mon 11-Jul-22 12:01:39

Ridiculous anyone would think he was a prince ???
If it was his own choice shows what a childhood he’s having no boy would choice that attire

eazybee Mon 11-Jul-22 12:01:43

I have noticed the Rees-Mogg children seem to choose what they wear, and one boy seems to prefer jacket, shirt and tie; the others were more casually dressed.
Royal children were not always so much in the public eye, and I can understand why; what a torrent of criticism over a boy's, or possibly parents', choice of clothes.

Just wondering whether the Royal Box is in the sun or in the shade? I would imaging it's in the shade.

vegansrock Mon 11-Jul-22 12:12:05

There’s a whole heap of criticism when the likes of the Beckhams share photos of their children, but the royals do it all the time - can’t be because they need to keep themselves in the public eye could it?

Purplepixie Mon 11-Jul-22 12:14:42

I felt so sorry for him too. A little lad in a suit, shirt and tie on one of the hottest days of the year. Why couldnt he wear something cool?

Joseanne Mon 11-Jul-22 12:15:49

I've a feeling the royal box would probably have its own air conditioning? And cushions on seats so your dress doesn't get stuck to your knickers!

JenniferEccles Mon 11-Jul-22 12:18:39

I was thinking the same thing Chestnut
I’m certain the position of the sun would have influenced the siting of the royal box.

We also don’t know if George was there for the entire match.
He may have been taken away for a break in the middle as the tv cameras weren’t continually focused on him.

I’m sure his royal training has begun and that involves dressing in a way he may not necessarily choose.

missingmarietta Mon 11-Jul-22 12:19:08

I thought George wearing a shirt and tie and a jacket without a hat in the sweltering heat for what could have been 3-4 hours was ridiculous.

Royal or not what would have been the harm in wearing a cotton shirt and a lightweight jacket [start off with the tie/jacket then take them off for the match, put back on to meet people afterwards] and a cap. The sun was fierce on his head. I lost a bit of respect for William and Kate yesterday.

Teacheranne Mon 11-Jul-22 12:28:43

I understand that all men have to wear a tie and jacket in the royal box? So I guess Prince George was just following the dress code but it was a shame that it was such a hot day for his first visit the the final. He looked as if he was enjoying the match though in the photos I saw. I expect he went home and jumped in the paddling pool!

Glorianny Mon 11-Jul-22 12:37:32

I looked at some of the photographs and he does seem to be enjoying the tennis some of the time. But I also noticed that William had a lightweight linen type jacket on, and both the parents wore sunglasses some of the time. Evidently George doesn't need a lightweight jacket or protection from the sun with a hat and/or sunglasses. Poor boy!

PollyDolly Mon 11-Jul-22 12:40:16

I was appalled to see the photograph of him this morning; shirt and tie plus a jacket and NOTHING on his head! Kate and William should be ashamed of themselves!

Lexisgranny Mon 11-Jul-22 12:49:02

I read somewhere this morning that during the period of the match the Royal Box was in the shade, so no need for anything on his head. As far as I can see from photographs, no-one, male or female wore hats. However I agree he would have been more comfortable without the tie.
