How long do you stay in your PJs?

Just that really, I ask because it’s 10:30am and I’m still in mine, and this is quite normal for me.
Got up at 8:00am, had a leisurely breakfast, emptied the dishwasher, changed the sheets on the bed, did a bit of dead heading in the garden and now thinking about getting dressed so that I can walk the dog. Am I alone in this slovenly behaviour?

I have never worn pyjamas in my life. For the past couple of years I have breakfasted before getting washing and dressed because my help comes at nine to help me shower.
In my whole life I have never remained in bed unless because of illness. In the winter I do sometimes change into my nightie after my evening meal.

Zonne Fri 15-Jul-22 13:53:21

I don’t have a dog.

I don't have a dog.

I’m up and walking the dogs by eight in this hot weather. Too late at 10.30 for dogs in a heat wave . You perhaps should go out in a fur coat and bare feet. That’s how your dog feels !

Aw but can CathSoc accept that as 'work'???

Dunno faye but topping and tailing 2lbs of blackcurrants, and then standing stirring a pan of boiling jam, in 30 degrees heat, it certainly felt like work! grin

faye17 Fri 15-Jul-22 13:38:13

You did dead heading in the garden in your PJs !I can’t believe it!

I'm loving your outrage CathSoc! Yesterday, I dead headed the roses, watered the greenhouse and cropped the fruit off blackcurrant bushes before going back in to make jam! I do hope that some of my neighbours were as shocked as you!

Oooh I love staying in my pjs and doing all my chores. Unless I know someone’s calling in which case I’m up showered and dressed.
As someone else has posted pjs straight in the wash after slobbing around.

Until last week I didn’t have any PJ’s, because I didn’t see the point of wearing something similar to underpants at night and then having to wash them every day the same as you do with underwear. Instead I’m happy with nighties. However I had to go into hospital for a mastectomy a couple of days ago and was advised to wear PJ’s, and I’ve really been very pleasantly surprised at how cool and comfortable they are. Today is my first day completely alone, and I’m going to spend it wearing only PJ’s.
This is probably me finally getting trendy!
Wishing you a full recovery ?

I agree with Zonne. What a lot of smug, self satisfied, early risers on this thread. In old age, I seem to have reverted to youth - staying awake half the night and sleeping very late. As there is no one to bother me, that's fine. I stay upstairs in bed doing emails or reading, until feeling hungry, or the cat is making it plain that she is.

I agree about the smugness! Up and dressed at 4.30/6.30, whatever! Jeez, what do they want, a badge or a balloon?

I sometimes go to bed in my clothes, just in case someone knocks in the night and realises I wear pyjamas.
So funny- made my day

Missingmoominmama Fri 15-Jul-22 13:20:46

If I do stay in my nightshirt, I feel a bit grotty. I’m more productive when I’m showered and dressed.

Juicylucy Fri 15-Jul-22 13:18:42

Don’t own any,so don’t wear any. Up dressed by 8.30-9 everyday.

MissAdventure Fri 15-Jul-22 13:17:12

My mum took years to take on the idea that she needn't struggle to get dressed by a particular time.
She had worked so hard, and was horribly, terribly disabled.
I'm glad she had a little more comfort, at least, in her last few years.

I get dressed as soon as I get up, normally 7.45am but before 7 two days a week as I take my GD to school before 8.

Joy241 Fri 15-Jul-22 13:14:04

I was brought up not to appear at the breakfast table until out of nightwear and fully dressed. It was never a problem as I was a morning person and, as an adult, this habit continued.

However an accident six months ago made it impractical for me to be the usual chirpy early bird and, do you know what? I am now finding it liberating to ‘slob about’ in my PJs, especially in this hot weather.

So would I be most days, having done jobs like you.

MissAdventure Fri 15-Jul-22 13:05:44

Quick!
Call the police!
Report it to crimestoppers!

It'll be on the next edition of "Crimewatch" for sure.

I agree totally smile

Merryweather Fri 15-Jul-22 12:54:52

@cath it’s not slovenly it’s still clothing. It covers the necessary and as long as you’ve showered in a 24h period whos to dictate what time that should be? Clean and tidy is fine. You do you though with your (unwritten) rule book.

MissAdventure Fri 15-Jul-22 12:52:17

Nobody needs to "excuse" themself to a stranger on the internet.
Some people never seem to grasp that fact.

Merryweather Fri 15-Jul-22 12:51:04

FYI the postman won't feint if you answer the door in pls either, or a dressing down.
Maybe not even your birthday suit.

I remember once answering the door breastfeeding my baby. I was do tired I had hit dillerium and it wasn't until after I’d accepted the parcel I realized. Thankfully my postie was a woman and I did apologise. She said she wasn't fazed at all and had seen everything in her job, and asked about the baby.

Yes, it is slovenly behaviour - in the Summer I’m up by 6am and fully showered , dressed and make up done by 6.45 at the latest. I assume you don’t work at all or do any sort of voluntary work, or you couldn’t possibly still not be properly dressed at 10/10.30 am.
When I was a child and visited my grandma in an industrial town in Yorkshire , she lived in a little terraced house on an old cobbled street with outside toilet across the road, and washing on clothes lines across the street,
and the women all shuffled off to the local shop at the far end of the street wearing their slippers and often still with rollers still in their hair ( my grandma didn’t do the latter ) . These women would have had hard lives - cooking breakfast for loads of kids, washing often done by hand with a mangle etc etc, so they had some excuse for appearing ‘ slovenly’ - what’s yours ???
