How long do you stay in your PJs?

Just that really, I ask because it’s 10:30am and I’m still in mine, and this is quite normal for me.
Got up at 8:00am, had a leisurely breakfast, emptied the dishwasher, changed the sheets on the bed, did a bit of dead heading in the garden and now thinking about getting dressed so that I can walk the dog. Am I alone in this slovenly behaviour?

I'm like the OP. Have breakfast, empty dishwasher, potter in back garden, look at the computer. Get showered about 10 am.

Having worked for 46 years (and still working full time), when I am on days off, I LOVE wearing my pj's - I feel comfortable and its my "chilling" time! Obviously if I'm expecting visitors or have appointments its different and I'm up, showered and dressed but I think I have earnt the right to do exactly as I please in my own house. Mind you, I do draw the line at people who shop in their pj's - I could NEVER do that! shock

Azalea99 Get well soon. ?

I don't wear PJs, except when we have guests staying. I normally get dressed as soon as I get up, but the time can vary from 4.30am recently to 10.30 occasionally. It would never occur to me to stay in pyjamas or a dressing gown all day.

If at home, I will often stay in mine for most of the morning, sometimes all day. It is so relaxing. I will often wander around the garden in the early morning, tea in hand, as we are not overlooked. In cold weather, will just put on my big old coat and boots, PJs still on. One of my favourite things to do.

Usually dressed by 8.30 at the latest , only stay in dressing gown if I'm ill ?. It makes me feel better to be up and dressed .

Well said Doodledog

I work in my ones till 12.30 then have shower and dress and take dogs out. I know it's wrong. But I don't want to excite the dogs too early. And I change my pjs every 2 days. and I mean mainly in home office...

No PJ's or Nightie here, either - but I put on a Jog Suit/Leisure suit (i.e. fleece type top and trousers) on getting up, so no modesty issues, even if someone comes to the door, or I go into the garden. Usually, I shower and dress around 9.00am, unless I have to be out for an appointment which requires an earlier start.
When not feeling well (or particularly lazy) I have been known to wait until after I have cooked lunch to wash and dress - but would not feel right spending the whole day without doing so.
All credit to those who are happy enough in their own skin, to spend their day in whatever state of dress they choose!

Until last week I didn’t have any PJ’s, because I didn’t see the point of wearing something similar to underpants at night and then having to wash them every day the same as you do with underwear. Instead I’m happy with nighties. However I had to go into hospital for a mastectomy a couple of days ago and was advised to wear PJ’s, and I’ve really been very pleasantly surprised at how cool and comfortable they are. Today is my first day completely alone, and I’m going to spend it wearing only PJ’s.
This is probably me finally getting trendy!

Depends on the day and what I'm doing. I'm still in my nightie now but about to go in the shower - I've been out in the garden deadheading and taking it all in, observing! I'm up around 8.30, occasionally earlier and often 'garden' (no major grubby jobs) in my nightie for a short while - I am very lucky my garden is lush and not overlooked. It is nice to be out there first thing with a cuppa before the machinery of hedge trimmers and lawn mowers start! If I manage to get out really early all I can hear are the birds singing. I wouldn't want to waste this precious time in the shower - it takes me a while to shower and get ready now since serious illness and I have been more relaxed about time since then. This is my home, my place & space, my life and I try to enjoy it as best I can. It does not matter what I am wearing as long as I am clean! All clothes are material! And the cleaning can happen at any time in the day but I do like to be showered and dressed for lunch! So for me a nice calm breakfast, a review of the day ahead, a wander around the garden and a check of emails then I get ready. But if I'm going somewhere then obviously I get ready when I get up!
We should all enjoy retired life (I had a very busy full on full time job all my life) which ever way we like, while we can.

It depends on what I'm doing. I don't sleep in PJ's but put them on when I get up. Our bathroom is downstairs so I get up, anywhere between 6 & 8 depending on my bladder, prepare DH's breakfast and have a cup of tea while waiting for him to wake up. I usually have my breakfast around 9 and then wash/ shower and get dressed but sometimes I'll stay in my PJ's. My day clothes and PJ's don't look much different, usually tee shirt and leggings or leisure trousers and DH can often not tell if I've got dressed or not.
In this hot weather I find some of my PJ's are much cooler to wear.

I agree with Zonne. What a lot of smug, self satisfied, early risers on this thread. In old age, I seem to have reverted to youth - staying awake half the night and sleeping very late. As there is no one to bother me, that's fine. I stay upstairs in bed doing emails or reading, until feeling hungry, or the cat is making it plain that she is.

Helenlouise3 Fri 15-Jul-22 12:11:53

I work full time during the week, so once I'm up it's shower and dress. It's usually the same at weekends unless I know I'm going out at say 11 am. Then I'd do a couple of chores before dressing. Don't see the point on dirtying two sets of clothes. I'm in my pj's most evenings by 7pm unless I'm expecting visitors.

Nannina Fri 15-Jul-22 12:09:38

I’m normally up and running by 8am but occasionally I have a jama day and just chill out. It’s not slovenly, free choice and not hurting anyone. Incidentally the recent hot nights have led me to dig out a couple of cotton nighties I’ve had for years, so more comfortable in the heatwave

PW41 Fri 15-Jul-22 12:08:32

I totally agree! I'm 80 now worked all my life, live alone and please myself! Nobody's business what I do !

ScotGranny3 Fri 15-Jul-22 12:05:24

I usually wear nightdress and try to make sure I'm dressed for mid-day. I'm happy pottering around, reading or watching TV and get washed and dressed whenever. I'm definitely a night owl as I can still be going at 2am so don't see any problem with it! I live alone and am free to live as I choose . . . If I need to be out and about early, I will be there otherwise, my life, my choice and very happy wink

Nannina Fri 15-Jul-22 12:05:06

Normally up, showered and dressed by 8 am but now and again, especially in winter, I have a jama day and chill out. I don’t think it’s slovenly just free choice and not hurting anyone

Merryweather Fri 15-Jul-22 12:02:33

Weeks at a time - not the same pair. I do change them every 24 hours. I'm not leaving my home or my garden except in a wooden box so who cares. The Undertaker won't, nor will thedirctir who signs the certificate. I'm clean so who cares. My kids don't. Their friends known I'm ill. I'll spend my days comfortable thank you and not relying on people to dress me. I can just about do my pls myself.

katy1950 Fri 15-Jul-22 12:02:15

After breakfast usually dressed by 9

Libman Fri 15-Jul-22 11:58:13

My 2yr old granddaughter and I emptied the paddling pool in our pjs this morning. All our bits were covered so don’t see a problem. I wouldn’t do the same in the front garden though. I sometimes like to get a few jobs done before showering and dressing - -playing candy crush on the iPad- -

I get up around 9'ish and throw on something then have breakfast, do some chores, catch up on any business stuff...phone calls , online stuff and then generally faff about , more coffee and sometimes a bit more faffing. I have a shower around 11-12. Then I can do 'outside' things or have people over. I try to leave the time for myself until 2pm. It's my time and my life and I can do what I want but it is sometimes hard to not feel I should be achieving more. What this 'more' actually is I have no idea? I think it probably relates way back to childhood when I was bullied by my mother and told I was lazy!! Actually I was always a bit of a dreamer with an excellent imagination and my mother saw this as unfit for life!!

You sound a lot like me! I too, spend hours faffing about in the mornings, and I am seldom ready to leave the house before 2 pm. I am easily sidetracked, and can spent ages going down rabbit holes on the internet. I am very happy in my retirement, because I am finally "allowed" to take it easy, doing what I want, when I want, with nobody around any more to accuse me of being 'lazy', just because I am a bit of a dreamer, and operate at a slow, relaxed pace.

As long as you don't walk to the local shops in your PJ's, dressing gown and slippers you can do what you like in your own home. ?X
