How long do you stay in your PJs?

Just that really, I ask because it’s 10:30am and I’m still in mine, and this is quite normal for me.
Got up at 8:00am, had a leisurely breakfast, emptied the dishwasher, changed the sheets on the bed, did a bit of dead heading in the garden and now thinking about getting dressed so that I can walk the dog. Am I alone in this slovenly behaviour?

I hope this link works. It's from Walmart but seems there are loads on the Internet. Look so much better than my nightwear and I'm sure my postman will appreciate it when he knocks the door for my signature at 1 pm.

Baggytrazzas Thu 14-Jul-22 23:39:49

Will do. I think I can remember seeing them in some old 1950's American films , shift dresses with sleeves like smart cleaners overalls with zips up the front so you could just jump in. Would need pockets and to be made of decent fabric but tbh just about anything would be better than my nightwear...

MissAdventure Thu 14-Jul-22 23:32:46

Can you let us know if you find anything, please?
I'm sure there must be lounging dress type things now.

Baggytrazzas Thu 14-Jul-22 23:31:08

I could quite easily still be in my nightshirt at lunchtime if I've had a busy morning or if I've just been reading my book and drinking tea. I do though dread having to answer the door as my nightwear is extremely unglamorous and unflattering even I am aghast if I catch sight of myself in a mirror. I look even worse in a dressing gown. I've actually been wondering if I might get some kind of " house dress" that I could wear over comfy underwear about the house and garden when I'm lazing or doing tasks, then go and get my shower and into proper clothes when I am ready to. I've no idea if these garments exist but was thinking I could get two and wear them on alternate days, hanging them on the hook in the bathroom when not being worn, and unless they are filthy wash them maybe once a week or so. I think I'd feel less slovenly and still retain my choice as to when I actually get properly dressed. I think I'll start having a look online and see if I can find anything suitable.

If someone comes to my door before I am dressed, I usually stick just my head out and say “ You’ve caught me as I’m about to have a shower after doing my housework!” A lie really, I was probably reading in bed!

If it’s a delivery, I hope it’s one where they leave it on the doorstep and go straight back to their van so I can bring it in after they have left. I just brazen it out in my dressing gown if I have to sign!

I live in a bungalow and my bedroom is on the front so my blinds are angled upwards, I can see out but people cannot see in. I have been know to leap out of bed if I see a car pull up and hide behind the door pretending I am out!

I had years of leaving the house at 6.45am to get to work so really enjoy the freedom to get up and dressed at whatever time I choose now I am retired.

T-shirt dresses for nightshirts then I can wear them all day if I wish.

Reasons same as Doodledog

I’ve got to that time in my life, 75, that I do what I want and don’t feel constrained by conventions. I often get into my pjs at 5.00 pm before I cook the supper.

MissAdventure Thu 14-Jul-22 22:03:52

I wear nighties actually.

MissAdventure Thu 14-Jul-22 21:50:15

I sometimes go to bed in my clothes, just in case someone knocks in the night and realises I wear pyjamas.

Nannagarra Thu 14-Jul-22 21:46:28

I only don my nightie to do housework in the morning. Then it’s bunged into the machine after I’ve showered and dressed. Until bedtime I’m fulled dressed.
If I’m expecting a parcel to be delivered, it’s a b***er, as I feel I have to be up, washed and dressed far too early…

henetha Thu 14-Jul-22 21:34:48

I'm up by 8, drink tea, shower or wash, dressed about 8.30-8.45.
Can't bear not getting dressed .
But I don't consider slovenly if you don't. . Each to his own. Do what suits you.

lixy Thu 14-Jul-22 21:34:06

I have a cool cotton kaftan that I sling on when I get up and may or may not stay in for the day depending on what's going on.
Usually up and shower first then breakfast in kaftan while I dry off properly before getting dressed. In winter substitute fluffy dressing gown for kaftan, but I never stay in that all day!
Not slovenly behaviour to stay in comfy clothes at home, including in your own garden - but pj's to the shops is absolutely beyond the pale!

HurdyGurdy

Depends on how the arthritis is behaving. On a good day, I am up, showered, dressed and sitting at my (home) desk ready to work at 6.45am.

On a bad day, I drag myself out of bed at 6.55am and stumble to my desk, and wait for the painkillers to be effective enough that I am capable of getting dressed. That can be anything up until 12noon/1pm.

I prefer to be dressed early in the morning, in case someone comes to the door, because I would never open the door in PJs.

Strange place to have a door.

It was me who first mentioned slovenly, I think.
I thought I'd get in first and save people the bother.

I can achieve so much more if i am wearing pyjamas, the whole house can be cleaned, admin seen to and animals feed before midday.

You could market those and make a fortune grin

You could use the slogan 'Grannypiper's Power Pjs Pack a Pretty Punch'. I can see the ads now.

Daddima Thu 14-Jul-22 20:59:24

It’s only recently that I have really started wearing PJs, and have deliberately bought ones which don’t look too like pyjamas ( shorts and top style for summer, joggie styles for winter)
Even when locked down, I always got dressed quite early, but do like to don the PJs of an evening.

MissAdventure Thu 14-Jul-22 19:53:16

Have you got a spare pair of those you could lend to me, please? smile
Bog all gets done here these days.

I could not stand not getting dressed and wearing a bra especially . Breakfast , shower then dress for the day .

eazybee Thu 14-Jul-22 19:10:00

I feel uncomfortable if I am not dressed by 9am, but I do put the bins out in my dressing gown, usually about 7am, on a Monday morning.
Don't own pajamas.

JaneJudge Thu 14-Jul-22 18:31:58

I don't know why people have to be so spiteful about other peoples clothes choices

MiniMoon Thu 14-Jul-22 18:26:31

I can't fetch past my upbringing. My sisters and I were taught that when we rose in the morning we washed, dressed and came down for breakfast. It just can't do it any other way.

Bossyrossy Thu 14-Jul-22 18:03:33

Dickens - I wasn’t asking for anyones approval just interested to see what others do with regard to PJ wearing.
H1954- I’m with you on that one too.

MissAdventure Thu 14-Jul-22 18:01:18

Ah, thanks calendargirl.
I felt sure I'd "started it".
