No point me staying in bed, considering myself lucky with 6 hours sleep

I looked at my weather station and it is the same inside and out. 24 degrees. I am NOT opening my windows or doors

That is a disasterous start, it will be heat on heat

Still 25+ here. Last night was 18+ all night, the worst night we have had. We desperately need some rain to put the fires out near us, the heaths are still smouldering and erupting. I've just noticed some rain promised for tonight, but that could disappear again.

Such a change - Mid Cornwall and 18 degrees, with cloud cover and a constant breeze from the north. DH has just changed back into trousers! Looks like possible rain next week. We're not on mains and rely on our spring fed stream. It's could do with a top up.

Wish it had been cooler for grandMattie yesterday.

It is getting cooler and more bearable as today goes on.
No rain to speak of so far.
Charleygirl you have made much progress today, despite the humidity which saps all our energy.

Charleygirl5 Wed 20-Jul-22 06:52:53

It is so humid today. It is 20C, not 7 am and the T is rising. I would like a deluge but not until late afternoon as I have organised a fellow to jet wash the rear paved garden.

He is also taking a load of stuff, including two stools to the charity shop. His car is bigger than mine so he can fit everything in it. It will take him less than 30 minutes whereas it would take me several hours and a few trips.

I will be glad for many reasons when this day is over.

Poppyflower air dry yourself, rather than use a towel,it really helps you cool.

PoppyFlower Tue 19-Jul-22 20:56:31

I just took another cool bath.. bliss... until I dried and the heat shot back up!! What a couple of days we have all had. just one more hot night then cooler tomorrow!!! ???

M0nica Tue 19-Jul-22 20:48:53

A cool bath helps to cool you down - and a shower, unless the water mist contributes to your breathing difficulties.

You could rest your plastered leg on the side of the bath to keep it dry. Alternativly, thoroughly damp a big towel and wrap yourself in it.

TillyTrotter Tue 19-Jul-22 20:44:36

Sorry to hear how bad your breathing is Daftbag.
Damp or iced cloths are a good idea as AreWeThere suggested.
Tomorrow will be cooler we are told and have to believe it.
Just hold on a bit longer. ?

AreWeThereYet Tue 19-Jul-22 17:28:21

Daftbag sorry you're suffering. Is there anyone who could put some cold damp cloths in a zip bag for you, so you can put them on your neck or forehead now and again to cool you down? You can keep it by your side, zipped up.

Kim19 Tue 19-Jul-22 17:22:52

Grandmattie?. Daftbag ?.

Prentice Tue 19-Jul-22 17:20:35

I have stayed in today, did some household chores in the morning, a light lunch and read my book. Then a long nap.
Now watching television and looking on here.
Will make a meal about 8 pm when cooler.

FannyCornforth Tue 19-Jul-22 17:17:12

Oh Daftbag, bless you. Hope that it cools down and that you have some relief soon thanks

Daftbag1 Tue 19-Jul-22 17:13:09

I'm really struggling, I'm not sleeping because of the heat, I've got a leg in a plaster cast following a nasty fall, and unable to weight bare. Our thermometer is showing 43°c, and I feel as though I can't breath (I can but it does feel like there's no air). I can't shower or bathe.

Grandmattie we’re all thinking of you, dear lady thanks

Sago Tue 19-Jul-22 08:19:58

Still drinking tea and reading, not yet showered and dressed!
Had a great sleep though mainly because we opted for separate rooms due to the heat!
I have to work today but the study is the coolest room in the house..

Good Morning from the West Midlands. Dog has been walked and I'm waiting for a delivery of a second garden bin. Its the fourth time its been promised. I moved to this maisonette in November and the garden had been neglected, consequently lots of chopping back needed. I'm flitting between my home and son's while they are away avoiding the heat. Thoughts are with Grandmattie on this sad day.

Calendargirl Tue 19-Jul-22 07:20:23

Grandmattie a long and sad day for you. Your courage shines through your posts on here ?

I live in Worcestershire and yesterday the temperature reached 36° here. It's 20° outside now and 26° inside so windows are open. Not for long I suspect.
