Couldn’t resist grin What do you all make of Prince Harry’s latest venture into the world of public speaking?

volver Sun 24-Jul-22 15:52:51

ect?

You didn't find that in the Times.

lemsip Sun 24-Jul-22 15:48:46

volver you say 'The red tops at work with misinformation again' ..............

you must try reading The Times, The Telegraph ect.

volver Sun 24-Jul-22 14:31:22

OK, so I did some calculations.

20 return UK flights on private jets, around 2,000 tonnes of CO2.

UK total carbon footprint in 2020 - 405.5 million tonnes. Equivalent to 37 million private jet flights.

We really need to start focussing on the big stuff, not obsessing about private jets.

No the hypocracy lies exactly where it stems from, ie those who say one thing but live another. Who ever 'they' are.

Like Prince Charles famous for his environmental views who took over 20 private flights last year, mostly short journeys within the UK.

I know !

volver Sat 23-Jul-22 11:36:58

So what do you expect maddyone? Everybody to stop flying? That's not going to happen.

The hypocrisy is with governments who say all the right things about climate change, and then plan for new coal mines and new oil fields. The governments who try to convince us that net zero is a bad idea because of those pesky Chinese and their power stations. The governments that try to tell us that we can't afford to change because there isn't enough money.

That's the hypocrisy.

Anyway, way off topic now.

maddyone Sat 23-Jul-22 11:33:04

I take your point volver, but hypocrisy is not a good look for the royal family. Nor for anyone else in the public eye actually.

I will comment on any individual, royal or otherwise, who is suggesting that ordinary individuals take fewer flights, whilst at the same time, hypocritically taking many flights, especially when those flights are private jets. Yesterday it was suggested that William and his family flew by private jet to Jordan last year. Shane on Prince William for doing that, it’s entitled behaviour. I know that Prince Charles flies by helicopter to Scotland for just a few hours before returning by helicopter. Shame on Prince Charles for doing that. It’s entitled behaviour. They have both, like Harry, made speeches exhorting us to cut our carbon emissions. This entitled family cause more emissions in their lifetimes than any one of us. They should all start to practice what they preach.

This is a much more interesting conversation.

I don't condemn anybody for using any form of transport then speaking about climate change.

It's not down to individuals to change, even very rich entitled ones. We need infrastructure change in the whole world and a few less private flights don't amount to a hill of beans.

I know the Queen said ‘Recollections may vary.’ An interesting comment, I wonder what she meant.

The Queen didn't say that. The Palace did. Subtle but important difference. The red tops at work with misinformation again wink

It's pretty clear what she meant. That Meghan was making things up which weren't true.

^Who else gets called a monster, a third rate actress, a gold digger, a henpecked husband who is a miserable whinging moaner? Just because people think they they upset oor Lizzie?^

I've never heard the term monster but hey ho. The rest sounds pretty accurate from what we've seen and heard with our own eyes and from what numerous people who know them have said. All justified. And because they've treated the Queen and her family so appallingly we find them guilty as charged m'lud.

All justified.

You think so. I think its childish and pathetic. You have no idea what the Queen thinks and feels, only what you believe she must think which is something else entirely. You are setting yourselves up as judge and jury regarding something that is nothing to do with you. (plural you). Makes a change from watching Neighbours or Eastenders, I suppose.

Hey ho.

Poster in question of course had not seen said acting…..
Available on Netflix

Lucca Sat 23-Jul-22 10:07:59

“Third rate actress….” Actually early on when I joined GN I was so shocked to see a poster describe Meghan as a “two bit actress” an absolutely horrible expression.

I think its because its all so silly that I comment. Our government is a shambles, the NHS is in freefall, climate change is starting to bite, there's a war in Europe; all kinds of things.

But people get activated by a posh chap flying to NY and making a speech with his wife in tow.

In the words of Elsa... "Let it go, let it go..."

volver Sat 23-Jul-22 09:31:04

Why only about M&H? Some of the nastiest, extremely unpleasant things said on gransnet aren’t about M&H.

Who else gets called a monster, a third rate actress, a gold digger, a henpecked husband who is a miserable whinging moaner? Just because people think they they upset oor Lizzie? If politicians get criticised, for instance, for being useless politicians, that's fair enough. If minor royalty gets criticised for not being noble and selfless enough?

Hypocrisy indeed.

tickingbird Sat 23-Jul-22 09:15:59

We don't know any of these people and everything we think we know is based on PR (Sussexes and Windsors) and gossip mongering. Yet the things that are said here on GN about M&H are undeniably unpleasant.

Why only about M&H? Some of the nastiest, extremely unpleasant things said on gransnet aren’t about M&H.

Seems certain posters only get wound up about these two but quite happily let the most vile comments about certain politicians or right of centre (in their view) commentators pass. Hypocrisy is alive and well on GN.

Chestnut Fri 22-Jul-22 23:56:15

What we've seen and heard of H&M with our own eyes and ears is evidence enough, along with evidence from numerous other people who have met them.

GagaJo Fri 22-Jul-22 20:56:12

If you're all sick of hearing about them, maybe don't read stuff about them? Give them a swerve?

No one is nailing you to the Daily Mail under pain of death.

volver Fri 22-Jul-22 19:59:11

I don't know if Meghan is unpleasant or not, never met the woman. Never met Harry either. I haven't based my view of them on an interview onto which I have projected my prejudices and preconceptions, and I have not decided that they are the bad guys based on hero-worship of the Windsor clan, who (shock, horror) are not automatically always the nicest of people just because they are the close family of the Queen.
