Couldn’t resist grin What do you all make of Prince Harry’s latest venture into the world of public speaking?

Joseanne Fri 22-Jul-22 19:44:34

But I see it as contradicting yourself volver unless I misunderstood.
How can you deem people on here to be unpleasant from what they say, yet you won't accept that Meghan was unpleasant saying what she did in the interview, and so was Harry unpleasant when talking about his parenting and his grandparents?
I can just about accept Harry's speeches, but I think the interview was the worst move they could have done and it will stick forever due to its unfortunate timing.

I wouldn’t expect anything less than a huge smile from you volver if I was ever to meet you smile

The point is that photos of people smiling, or not smiling, don’t really show us anything. They are a snapshot of the moment, and that’s what I meant to show. You can put up pictures of happy Harry, and someone else, me in this case, can show pictures of unhappy Harry. They are a moment in time but do not show underlying happiness or unhappiness.

My guess is that Harry and Meghan are happy together. I don’t know though and have no evidence. They seem to me to have every reason to be happy, a lovely home, wealth, two gorgeous children. They are at odds with both their families though, which might make some people unhappy, but it doesn’t appear to be so for them. So long as they’re okay with that, I guess they’re happy. But the smiling photos don’t prove happiness, any more than miserable looking photos show unhappiness.

I'm sure I'd smile if we were ever to meet maddyone ?

I agree with you about the photos being a snapshot. But so many people use a split second image from their lives as proof of how Meghan is really Cruella de Ville and Harry is like George from George and Mildred

I know they frequently travel on private jets whilst lecturing us on climate change.

His sainted brother lectures everybody on climate change. He and the family just just took a helicopter to the Scillies. Is that OK? Double standards from the commenters, I think.

Of course they make a huge deal of their charity work. How else do you think they do charity work? The use their public profile to raise awareness. That's how it works. Maybe they do lots we don't know about too. Maybe Meghan scrubs the floor at the local foodbank. Maybe they stand on LA street corners with collecting tins.

What you believe about M&H are just that - beliefs. You're entitled to your beliefs, absolutely. And others are entitled to think that people who believe these things are unpleasant people whose opinions are based on nothing but prejudice and a penchant for nasty gossip.

^We don't know.^

Quite. Doesn't stop the presentation of speculation as gospel truth and the character assassination though, does it?

I don't see speculation as gospel truth, but I heard the lies coming out of their mouths during the Oprah interview so I know that's true. I know they frequently travel on private jets whilst lecturing us on climate change. I know they make a huge deal about their charity work because they advertise and publicise what they do at every opportunity.

I believe Meghan is a high maintenance, demanding and unpleasant person because so many people have said so. I believe Harry has been turned into a miserable, whinging moaner who sucks the life out of any gathering because that is what I see when he speaks.

Lucca Fri 22-Jul-22 18:56:42

Damn, “Said “. Not Saudi

Lucca Fri 22-Jul-22 18:56:00

*my granddaughters had never heard of Megan, I
can’t find anything about this mega star winning acting awards*

Who Saudi she was a mega star ? A successful actress I think is what was said, and she was, just because not many Brits watched Suits….. I did by the way,

So do you have to win awards to be considered successful ?

With you on this, GagaJo.

You've only got to read the bile on here to see why they wanted the h*ll out of Britain.

Or here.

Remind me never to have my photo taken unless I'm smiling from ear to ear. It could be used in evidence against me.

I think a PhD in Psychology might be too difficult for me (Bear of little brain), but there is an online Masters Degree in COMMUNICATION, BEHAVIOUR AND CREDIBILITY ANALYSIS. Basically you get to observe others' behaviour and then work out what makes them tick! Harry and Meghan would be ideal material for my dissertation, or is that thesis?
It's all bonkers, as is a comment that Prince George smiling and looking happy for his 9th birthday photo could be actually be dying inside. We don't know.

volver Fri 22-Jul-22 17:12:57

Annie I must say you have a grand imagination.

One can be famous and not win awards.

Nobody has said Markle sold stories about his grandchildren, only you. There are many ways to make money out of people.

I haven't watched the Interview from Hell so I don't know if she lied or not. But I'd really like you to stop disparaging my values and morals. Ta very much.

maddyone Fri 22-Jul-22 17:11:28

I think Suits, the programme Meghan was in, was moderately popular in Canada. It wasn’t well known in the UK. Not sure about America.

maddyone Fri 22-Jul-22 17:08:53

Or here.

Anniebach Fri 22-Jul-22 17:05:50

Jaberwok my granddaughters had never heard of Megan, I
can’t find anything about this mega star winning acting awards.

I have missed Mr Markle selling stories about his grandchildren and I do agree some Americans are direct, Trump is an example.

Going on a very well known chat show and lying seems acceptable to some, not to me. Different values obviously.

volver Fri 22-Jul-22 16:58:58

Oh, sorry, my mistake.

Its OK to make really nasty and unsubstantiated comments about Meghan because she deserves it, but any suggestion that anybody who disagrees with Meghan about ANYTHING might be in it for nefarious reasons is absolutely not allowed.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7002857/The-American-cousins-Baby-Sussex-never-know-estranged-Thomas-Markle-Sr-too.html It is the Mail so it must be true.

This fascinates me, it really does. It is like a cult.

Jaberwok Fri 22-Jul-22 16:41:27

No, nobody has told me so, but his the camera doesn't lie and he certainly looks full of anger, bitterness, resentment and sadness. As for his wife's acting career, I think even us Grans, usually via our teenage/20 something grandchildren, would have been wised up before the wedding as to the familiarity of the bride with the world at large, if such familiarity existed. Mine + their friends had never heard of this actress, or Suits come to that. Unpleasant comment about Thomas Markle. Have you verification that we only hear about two grandchildren because he can make money out of them? I certainly didn't know that.

volver Fri 22-Jul-22 16:27:25

Will nobody save this poor man?

lemsip Fri 22-Jul-22 16:15:25

oh, Harry is alright...... volver says 'He looks okay to her'.

well that's alright then.

volver Fri 22-Jul-22 16:14:48

I do it for the fun of it. And there's lots of fun to be had ? And who knows, maybe a psychology PhD in what drives the public perception of certain minor Royals.

Unlike some Grans, I don't think everybody is motivated by money.

merlotgran Fri 22-Jul-22 16:07:01

I hope they’re paying you well, volver. ?

volver Fri 22-Jul-22 15:55:45

1) You don't have to be a household name with Grannies in the UK to be considered "famous".

2) Her father is estranged from 4 of his grandchildren, we only hear about the 2 that he can make money from.

3) I think Welby will survive the ignominy. Not that there was any.

4) I very much doubt Harry is frightened of Meghan, that is a bizarre thing to say.

5) Why do you think he's not happy? Looks happy enough to me. Is it because some gutter press or unapproved biographer tells you so? That's projection of the highest order.

Like I said above - no sense of proportion. Or maybe I should have said "reality".

Jaberwok Fri 22-Jul-22 15:43:53

Harry's wife was not a famous actress, and certainly not a household name by any means, her treatment of her father, whatever his faults, is shabby to say the least. As for the Oprah show! The blatant lies told in that were unforgivably awful. I have little time for Archbishop Welby, but he didn't deserve to be subjected to that sort of embarrassment. I just can't understand how or why Harry allowed her to say all those fabrications, but I guess he was probably frightened of her, it certainly looks that way now. No wonder people are worried about him. Beautiful wife , handsome children, lovely home, no money worries? Should be the happiest time of his life but it clearly isn't.

Glorianny Fri 22-Jul-22 14:08:34

I find I'm liking her more and more. Telling Harry's friends off for sexism was great. Not able to do Strictly because she was working and embarrassed because she doesn't like her feet. She's actually pretty normal . As for the abrasive bit, so many of the traditional Brits I know find Americans hard to deal with because they are so direct.
