We do live in different worlds. Where I'm from obsessive negativity and prejudice is never justified.

I presume you're not addressing me.

I think they may well do.
I haven't generally criticised them but I can see why they do attract negative comments.
they do lay themselves wide open to valid criticism.
What about obsessive negativity and prejudice? Do they lay themselves wide open to that? In a sort of "they asked for it" kind of way?

Really
?
Well, clearly there is no 'we' is there?
I thought facts were quite pertinent, but then maybe when discussing the issue of the Royals, recollections may differ.
They may indeed.
Now, as far as I concerned, Meghan and Harry can please themselves what they do but, if they complain constantly, behave as described, they do lay themselves wide open to valid criticism.

Well said maddyone, but I'm afraid nasty is as nasty does. Catherine was also held (initially) by volver as solely responsible for Louis' childish behaviour at the Jubilee Celebrations.
I do suspect that a lot of the love for Meghan and Harry, and hatred of William and Catherine has more to do with hating the Royal Family than any other reason.
Paragraph (1). Not guilty your honour. Think you're mistaking me for someone else. Or as we say round here, "havering". But isn't a mother (and father, of course) responsible for her children?
Paragraph (2). Those who make nasty comments about Meghan protest loudly that they don't hate her. But if I'm making anything other than saccharine sweet comments about W&C, it's hatred. Also paragraph (2). I don't love M&H. I'm not 12. ?
What a crazy mixed up world this is.

Oh dear. Did Harry react differently to St William? The one that's married to English Rose Barbie?
"Battered" fgs. They are quite capable of bringing themselves down.
Oh dear, that's rather unkind - have you no heart?
I think my take on Barbie is the one in the song, "I'm a blond bimbo girl in a fantasy world". All about her hair and partying. A bit of an airhead lacking in good manners.

So we don't like English Rose Barbie. Let's look at that.
Barbie is a female archetype that represents what is perceived to be a perfect platonic ideal of a female. She looks nice and can turn her hand to all manner of things. We don't know much about her character but we know that many little girls hold her in their mind as a kind of role model to aspire to. She may actually be quite astute but the image she presents to the world is female perfection.
English roses are typically English beauties, not too "bohemian" looking. No particular colouring requirements, just representing a nice looking gel who doesn't frighten the horses. Catherine's mother in law had a song written about her that lauded her as "England's Rose". People quite liked that.
So English Rose Barbie. Yep, think I'll stick with that.
To be fair Harry has never said a bad word about Catherine, so what purpose do the unpleasant comments about her serve here? She actually went out of her way to welcome Meghan on board, and at the DofE's funeral she was the one who brought the brothers together. I'm sure Harry once said Catherine was the sister he never had and he spoke of his appreciation of her qualities and indeed of her family.
Incidentally, I love watching Dolly Parton, who as Namsnanny suggests, probably fits the Americanised version of Barbie rather more than any other celebrity. But that’s the image she wants, and all power to her. She’s a fantastic woman who is a brilliant musician and who supports charities with the proceedings from her work. She also has a deep Christian faith which has given her the guiding principles of her life. I love watching her on television and really enjoy her music.
Upsetting is it? When someone differs from your view of a public person and says so in no uncertain terms?
Well, we have a whole lot of inaccuracies here in this statement. No one really knows my view of either Meghan or Catherine because I haven’t stated a view of either of these women. I have only discussed Harry in this thread. Others may have widened it, but not myself. And a spirited defence of nastiness is no defence at all. Being unkind is never nice, but to slate perceived unkindness from posters about Meghan, and then dish out similar unkindness to Catherine is simply two faced. To bully one person is okay, but to bully another is not okay. No, it’s never okay.
Additionally, I am a feminist, as I believe many posters on Gransnet are too. To call an adult female a Barbie is sexist and derogatory language that I would never use about another woman. It’s not based on her character or personality, it’s based on a perception of what a woman should be like, or not like.
As many of you know, I’m a republican and would prefer that none of them were in the roles that they occupy. However I wouldn’t stoop so low as to call another woman a Barbie, whoever she was.
I’m certainly not upset, but I am disappointed in the language used. Incidentally, I’ve never met either Meghan or Catherine and have no desire to do so.

It's funny, so far as I ever knew and English Rose look was the opposite of Kates look.
ie mousy to fair hair, rosy cheeks, and lips and light nondescript possibly greyish, eyes. So far as figure goes, healthy rather than heroin chic.
Barbie was more like the American vision of female beauty. Big smile, breasts and lots of teeth. Blonde hair and blue eyes.
Of which Dolly Parton is an extreme example.
I don't see Kate in any of these groups. She is what she is.
As for tit for tat rebuttal, it's below us at our age surely?
