Am I being optimistic?

I have COVID and a relative, who said they were going shopping, kindly offered to pick some things up for me. We talked about payment and I texted them a short list. They were not aware of it, but I planned to have a couple of the items for my tea. This was 7 hours ago. Was it unrealistic of me to think that they were going shopping fairly soon after we spoke?

Maybe the timing of this shopping would have been helpful? Maybe you should have made it known that some of your items were for consumption today?

Secondwind well it might have helped if you had emphasised that you wanted the food today…but it’s been a funny old day.
I ventured out into the blazing ? heat (fully hatted and sprayed) of course- to a large Tesco close by and though the shop was lovely and cool they had turned off all the freezers and fridges due to the heatwave and blocked those aisles.
A jaunty sounding (pre- recorded) man’s voice kept announcing this every 15 mins or so and thanking everyone for being so understanding.
Don’t know if a similar situation has any bearing on your shopper but it’s a good job it’s pasta for tea?

Indeed I should. I was also wrong to assume that they were practically in the shop! But thank you.
It’s just that when I offer to pick things up for people, I generally do it fairly promptly. It’s also what other people have done for me on previous occasions.

Oh, heck! The chiller cabinets and freezers are the best bit of the building.

This seems an odd (incomprehensible) thing to do in a heatwave. What am I missing?

I’m guessing they thought that the compressors might overheat? Is it them that get so hot?

I often ask my mother-in-law if she wants shopping but regularly deliver the next day!
Unless of course it was fresh meat of fish when I'd take it the same day. Also,
If she said she had run out of something "basic" such as milk I'd take it over of course.

Sorry this isn't what you hoped...
Maybe uou have your dinner items now... ?

If someone offered to shop for me, the first thing I would ask them would be when they intended to do it and when they could deliver it, so that I could make my list with that in mind.

Oh dear. sad Hope you are better soon.

Baggs Tue 19-Jul-22 20:32:30

Thanks, secondwind. Now I’m wondering what they did with all the stuff inside the freezers and fridges.

Anyway, I hope you’ve got something nice for tea and that you feel better soon

I m like you Monica my first question always is when will you be going and base any things I want on their reply
Just mismatched expectations
Get well soon

Thank you very much for your kind wishes.
Yep - lesson learned.

A friend who offers to get shopping for me says by email. Eg ‘I am going shopping after work tomorrow, is there anything I can get for you?’.

Secondwind Wed 20-Jul-22 16:37:17

That’s lovely of her SparklyGrandma
People have been so very kind to me.

I must say that I love your name. When my children were small, there were lots of grandparents and great grandparents, we had a ‘Granny-with-the-old-cars’. I suspect that she would have loved to have been a Sparkly Grandma!
