Whether very occasional or not, what’s yours?

A ‘very occasional’ one of mine came to mind since I just nipped to the corner shop for onions, needed for dinner* tonight, and (feeling peckish anyway) succumbed to curry flavour instant noodles - two packs! I’m about to scoff one for lunch.

*a very healthy Greek style green bean and tomato stew, now in the slow cooker.

We only have takeaways for birthdays really... luckily there is 7 of us lol

I'm not fond of the McDonald's choice

But a whopper from burger King, a Chinese, Indian or chips and curry sauce all make me very happy

I think we all have different ideas of what is junk.

That's abundantly clear!

Love this!

You know the saying, "a little bit of what you fancy, etc...".

I think it's true - sometimes junk food just fills the need at that moment that a healthy meal will not.

If it's an occasional treat, I don't think there's any lasting damage.

McD's Filet o' Fish for me...

It's a pork pie for me. Usually for a packed lunch when on a long journey. It's my guilty pleasure.

A homemade one is less junk than a bought one.
I class junk food as anything that isn't healthy eating.

I wouldn’t call my usual homemade Victoria sandwich (blackcurrant jam, no cream) exactly healthy, but I wouldn’t call it junk, either.

Chips, crisps instant noodles, Nando’s, Tony’s chocolate, haribo sweets ……

Snickers and Mars ice creams, and crisps, though not eaten at the same time..

I only buy the ice creams in summer, and when there is a special offer on, but crisps any time. Oh, and roasted salted cashews, which I hide from my DH so I won't gave to share them. blush

Many of these foods mentioned are not junk foods though.
Victoria sponge cake? Pork pie?
Thinking of this, junk food is just food, and as long as we don’t have unhealthy foods every day then that is quite alright.
Am sorry, that may sound holier than thou after all.I did not mean it so, and was thinking out loud.
I do have a fondness for KFC but only now and then.
Many years ago I had an addiction to Super Noodles and Pot Noodles.

I love a burger from the BeefyBoys, who are based in Hereford but do sorties in their megavan out to the surrounding market towns - we queue for ages, they are absolutely delicious (even though probably about 1000 calories), so the whole town turns out when they come here, sadly only about three or four times a year.
My other junky weakness, I’m ashamed to admit is butterscotch Angel Delight, goodness knows how many E numbers it has in it.

HurdyGurdy Thu 21-Jul-22 18:30:54

Crispy Chilli Beef and Rice from our local Chinese. I can be an absolute pig over it.

Back in the days when we used to go to All You Can Eat Chinese Buffets, I'd be back four or five times - just for Crispy Chilli Beef. I don't know how my fillings survived !

Aldi Tiramisu, the big one if we’re feeling greedy.

Greyduster Thu 21-Jul-22 18:08:50

Barbecued chicken wings with a large side order of sticky ribs! OMG!!?

Lucca Thu 21-Jul-22 17:58:19

Pork pie…

Once in a blue moon (probably last one was 3 or 4 years ago) a Big Mac with cheese.

Chips, chips, chips....! (Proper chips - not skinny fries.)

Whenever she’s visited, my American niece has adored Proper Chips.
Surely healthier than skinny fries, too - in ratio of potato to oil.

PollyDolly

A home made Victoria sandwich sponge made with all butter - no margarine - filled with thick jam and whipped double cream.........with luck it lasts the weekend.

How is that junk food ?

Yammy Thu 21-Jul-22 17:47:31

Rocky road chocolate cake that's made with marshmallows and broken biscuits and raisins and lots of butter. I can have a packet eaten before DH asks for a piece.

NotAGran55 Thu 21-Jul-22 17:46:01

Waitrose coffee ice cream ? a big dollop of cream and half a Cadbury flake sprinkled on top. The rest of the flake eaten on the side with a very strong coffee.

FarNorth Thu 21-Jul-22 17:41:30

Anything with chocolate.
I sometimes get chocolate peanut butter so I can eat a spoonful when I'm craving chocolate.
I kid myself that that's healthy. smile

Dumplings! (Only in the Winter).

That has honestly made me thoroughly look forward to winter. Proper suet dumplings, in a stew. ?

Not sure I’d call them junk, though - maybe not exactly healthy non-junk.

Chestnut Thu 21-Jul-22 17:31:35

My definition of junk food is anything that has additives.

kittylester Thu 21-Jul-22 17:31:09

It used to be KFC or a (proper) chip buttie but becoming gluten intolerant out paid to that.

Junk food" is a term used to describe food that is high in calories from sugar and/or fat, and possibly also sodium, but with little dietary fiber, protein, vitamins, minerals, or other important forms of nutritional value. Oh thank you, I am familiar with the dictionary definition - but I'd say there's a vast difference between a home made cake and what I'd class as 'junk food' - the likes of McDonalds, KFC etc. If I made someone a beautiful Victoria Sponge and they said it was junk food, I'd be quite offended!
