seems that prices at the pumps are on the way down.
I managed to get petrol at 1.83p a few days ago.

HowVeryDareYou Mon 25-Jul-22 07:07:29

£1.78 near me yesterday

Casdon Mon 25-Jul-22 07:18:55

£1.69 in Abergavenny, an independent garage which has increased its profits because people are travelling there from miles around.

Mine takes super unleaded because it is only E5 paid £2.07 on Saturday, ouch, glad I don’t do many miles.

£1.96 for diesel in the NE. I need my weekly top up today.

Alioop Wed 27-Jul-22 11:12:17

£1.86 cheapest near me here in Co.Antrim, it's 10p cheaper than 2 weeks ago.

Driving on M5 last Friday the services were charging £2.05 for petrol ⛽️ Good that we didn't need petrol

I'm feeling smug. We have done over 3000 miles in the last 3 months and spent nothing on fuel. Seems we made the switch to electric at just the right time. ?

Georgesgran Wed 27-Jul-22 12:22:33

I think that’s the way to go Esspee. It’s costing me £10 for the 50mile round trip to either DD. I’m making a real effort to ‘kill 2 birds’ when I can.

LovelyLady Wed 27-Jul-22 12:22:50

What’s the price in North of Scotland?
This morning in Berkshire (England) it was £197 for diesel and £186 for petrol. My diesel doesn’t last as long as it did before lockdown.

JaneJudge Wed 27-Jul-22 12:25:02

It's 192 for diesel here but unleaded seems to be dropping, which will help some people smile

Happysexagenarian Wed 27-Jul-22 12:35:01

At a local independent garage diesel is £2.25. It's summer tourist season here, prices always rise a bit hmm. An electric car would suit us very well as we don't travel far so mileage is low, but they're just too expensive, even used ones. DH won't even consider it.

Bear in mind just how much you can save on fuel if you have free chargers nearby.

Mollygo Wed 27-Jul-22 13:15:57

Quick! Quick! Where do I find these free chargers? The ones in the park car-park and the supermarkets charge.

Janetashbolt Wed 27-Jul-22 13:32:22

Plug in electric is not cheap what with electric prices at an all time high. I have a hydrid which my husband adores, it's a motobilty car so petrol is all we pay for

Mamie Wed 27-Jul-22 13:37:17

Mollygo if you look at apps like ZapMap or Chargemap you can usually set a filter to find free chargers.

Cabbie21 Wed 27-Jul-22 13:39:21

My son has a hybrid car ( company car) and he tells me it consumes a huge amount of petrol per mile once its electric charge runs out.

Valels Wed 27-Jul-22 14:22:27

Down to £1.65 in Co Durham - let's hope it keeps going in that direction!

Nannytopsy Wed 27-Jul-22 14:53:45

We are changing our car on Friday. Guess who filled it with diesel a few days ago? ??

TanaMa Wed 27-Jul-22 14:57:44

Casdon - it's lower still today!!
If a private enterprise can do it, why can't the 'big boys' do the same?

Mollygo Wed 27-Jul-22 15:29:16

Surely, if you top up to full, you'll add to the overall weight and so increase usage per mile (OK, kilometre)? So unless you need a full tank for a long journey, it would make more sense to never have more than half a tankful?

Gabrielle56 Wed 27-Jul-22 17:15:32

It's always better to calculate the amount you need for journeys and buy accordingly.so if you use car maybe once or twice a week only why lug around a full tank? It's expensive and you burn more fuel carrying the extra weight. My DS used to calc his fuel exactly when he was first working to ease his cashflow with a poorly paid job!

Mallin Wed 27-Jul-22 17:46:08

Janetsshbolt. Don’t be silly. Motorbility cars simply mean that a cash benefit you are entitled to is paid directly for the car.

HurdyGurdy Wed 27-Jul-22 18:14:08

Went out this morning and passed a petrol station who had unleaded at l83.9 a litre. Passed it again on the way home this afternoon and it was 179.9 a litre.

Thank goodness it seems to be coming down again.
