What a great age to reach? Will always love The Railway Children film - and now want to watch it again?
RIP Bernard Cribbins

I'll delete my thread Fanny. Such a lovely man

Just seen this on the news. 'The Railway Children' is one of my all time favourites and always makes me cry.

Grandmadinosaur Thu 28-Jul-22 09:15:34

Very sad news today. He was such a lovely man always remembered as Perks in The Railway children.

RIP Bernard Cribbins.

I think I was on the wrong thread.

Such a lovely man who will be sorely missed. We will not see his like again. RIP.

As someone on TV said earlier why wasn’t he knighted? A national treasure.

Kate1949 Thu 28-Jul-22 09:46:54

I was reading about him the other day as they are making a sequel to The Railway Children. He did seem a lovely man. RIP Bernard.

Bernard’s wife Gillian died last year. They married in 1955

It may have been offered but he turned it down.

I put The Railway Children on yesterday for my granddaughter aged 7 and she loved it! She wanted to watch it again, I said save it for next time. Now today to read he has died is very sad, although he reached a good age.

Used to love his voice. Did lots of narrations especially for childrens books. Lovely man.

FannyCornforth Thu 28-Jul-22 10:35:06

Harris, I’d forgotten that he was the voice of The Wombles

Glorianny Thu 28-Jul-22 10:58:44

OMG he was in so many great things and so talented. I remember his songs "Hole in the Ground" and "Right said Fred" and he did Dr Who. RIP Bernard. Hope you are Wombling Free somewhere.

All the Jackanory stories he read. he held everyone’s attention with his fantastic array of voices . I was just as keen a listener as my children. Our favourite was the stories about Arabella and her Raven. Alas, no more ‘nevermores’

Mollygo Thu 28-Jul-22 11:24:35

What a lovely man-and what a great age! I watched the Railway Children the other day, but my favourite memory is listening to him read Arabel’s Raven and other stories as we drove to Devon.

I still blub my way through The Railway Children and of course he was known for so many other roles. I think his film and stage career started in the fifties.

RIP

I always enjoy The Railway Children, and can still shed a tear at the end. He was so good in so many films.

Another one who died is Robert Hoffman from the 60s series of Robinson Crusoe with that wonderful theme music.

Callistemon21 Thu 28-Jul-22 15:24:38

A lovely, talented man whose legend will live on in the roles he played.

RIP Bernard Cribbins
