An unnamed hospice offered to take Archie. What I do understand is how after the traumatic fight with the hospital authorities the family wanted Archie to die in different surroundings. Doctors killed my son by giving him the wrong medication against the advice of his Specialist consultant,who sat in despair with his head in his hands at the inquest. They lied to me saying they had approval. This did not happen in
Archie’s case but when trust has been destroyed it would be difficult for the family being in the hospital.

I didn’t say Archie should go to a hospice, just why couldn’t he.

Regarding line challenges no one knows for certain just he was found with a rope ligature round his neck which cut off his oxygen supply. I just thought it would be a worthy cause for Archie’s family to take up, as often this can help ease the pain of bereavement by good coming out of bad.

This little boy’s family ‘fought the hospital authorities’ as Avalon said up thread. Sadly it became necessary to involve the High Court then the ECHR in the ‘fight’. These independent bodies listened to the arguments from family and the medical teams involved.
I hope his family reach for peace rather than continue to ‘fight’

I feel grateful it’s over. Fortunately Archie will not have been aware of his artificially protracted death. What a tragic situation.

As for the accident in April her lawyers may argue that was not the cause of death and dispute the holding of a Coroners inquest.

More than just the family are involved now.

His mother can’t order an inquest but she or lawyers can call for one. I would think most notably a Jamieson Inquest where the State is believed to have failed to protect a person. I think

there will be an inquest into the accident in april which bought about today.. It's law, early next year... It is not something someones requests!

Oh, I think maybe Archies mum will call for an inquest. I’ve just read her comments about his death. Though I doubt she would accept the any verdict other than the one she has expressed.

I don’t think so lemsip. Inquest are held for sudden and unexplained deaths, according to legally defined criteria.

There may well be an enquiry into whether both sides could have acted differently and recommendations for future similar cases.

His parents fought long and hard for their son. They did what they felt was right but inevitably Archie has now died. I hope his mum, in particular, gets some help with her grief. RIP Archie.

The family had been fighting the hospital authorities for so long it created the wrong atmosphere as compassionate as I am sure the nurses would be. I know what it’s like when doctors think they know best when sometimes they don’t. You never want to step foot in that hospital again. You can’t.

Anyway Archie has gone now and is at peace. Hopefully his family will also find peace. His parents especially his mum did everything they could for Archie and need feel no guilt.
Perhaps his mum can be involved in some charitable work based on her experiences so Archie can be remembered in the right way. Maybe a campaign to educate kids to the dangers of following online dangerous challenges. Archie will not have died in vain. God bless Archie and your family who’ve been to hell and back.

Sadly I know a lot about hospice and the fabulous care they give, 25Avalon. They are wonderful places and provide great comfort.

However hospital was the safe and only place for Archie.

Zoejury not so much as a hospice. I was involved over 40 years ago when Dame Cecile Saunders gave the first conference on caring for the dying, after which the first hospices were set up. The children’s’ hospices have been particularly important in handling sensitive issues. It is very different from mainstream hospital.

I and others have posted tributes to the gentleness and care of hospital staff when family members are either dying or having life support removed.

It would have been a catastrophic move, 25Avalon. The boy has been dead a long time. I don't want to go into any details about what might have happened during the move. But it would have been extremely traumatic.

Also, hospital staff are extremely kind and compassionate. They do have time and training for dealing with these cases.

25Avalon because they were working in the best interests of the patient.
Doing their best to maintain his dignity, and probably privacy too.

I don’t understand why Archie couldn’t be moved to a hospice. They say his condition could deteriorate on the way but so what if he is dying or is technically dead anyway? Hospices are so good at treating not just patients but families in those final moments, which I doubt they have the time or training for in a busy acute ward or not in quite the same way, compassionate as they may be.
