I haven't yet come across anything I can't eat but recently I've discovered I need to limit citrus fruits as they seem to irritate my bowel. I have to avoid grapefruit in any case because of a medication, not that it's something I've ever eaten much of, nor oranges and lemons for that matter, but I ate two very small satsumas the other day and had gut cramps the following day. There have been a few similar problems over the last few years. Ah well, I can live without citrus fruits or at least only have them very occasionally.

I've never tried oysters but would try them cooked if offered for free. I practically lived on seafood, especially crab and squid, when I worked in Thailand for a year and it was great, so fresh.

I forgot goat’s cheese. Can’t stand the smell.
Love halloumi, though.

Must say I think oysters are vastly overrated - not surprising that in Dickens’ time they were considered poor people’s food - there’s something to that effect in The Pickwick Papers - oysters and poverty always going together.

I’ve never had them cooked, but I’m sure they’d be much nicer. I seem to remember a recipe for steak, kidney and oyster (suet) pudding.

I am amazed at the things some people don't like because lots of them are my favourites (if you can have more than one favourite)

This thread is even more vehement about people's dislikes than the recent one on a similar subject.

I have an allergy to shellfish so I don’t eat it any of of it. I think caviar is vile I ate it at a wedding it was sprinkled on salad. I would not even consider eating oysters let alone try them out.

We were brought up on a lot of offal so needless to say it’s not something I would volunteer to eat. I am not mad about over cooked vegetables I prefer them just lightly cooked. I don’t eat ready made full of junk cakes they are too sweet. If I want cake I make it myself I know what is in them and they are not too sweet.

The smell of fish and seafood are nauseating. Goats cheese.

Lots of things that I prefer not to eat but will eat almost anything put in front of me.

Oily food....mayonnaise and salad dressings mainly....cant stand the slimy texture. Beetroot and parsnips....vile.

Anything from the sea except fish.
Frogs and anything weird.
Fat and gristle on meat.
Offal.
So basically anything from an animal except the actual meat or fish.

Agree with you Nanagem about cauliflower cheese on a roast dinner; simply not right.

I like all proper pasta now, but since I was a child I haven’t been able to face tinned spaghetti.

Nanagem Sat 06-Aug-22 22:58:53

Rhubarb, I mean really can not eat the stuff, just the thought ?, I mean who ever in their right mind saw rhubarb and thought I know let’s cook that and eat it, i mean the leaves are poisonous doesn’t that say something ?

Gooseberry, no, just no

Cauliflower cheese on a roast dinner, lovely on its own, but with roast - no

Cottage cheese and water melon. Both tasteless and a horrible texture.

Peppers, any colour, but love chillies. Seafood in hard shells, mussels, oysters - molluscs basically, but I like crab, lobster and all fish.
I’ve tried all my dislikes, but they really do make my stomach churn (molluscs) or I dislike the taste (peppers).

Acids. I can’t bear anything containing vinegar nor acidic fruits like berries or rhubarb.

Milk… I’ve hated it ever since we had it in those little bottles at school that were warm in summer & all iced up in winter, used to make me feel sick so I tipped it down the sink when no one was looking.

I’m not a fan of lentils or pearl barley in soups or stews & I don’t like tongue and I would never try tripe, my mum used to love it with salt & vinegar!

Caleo Fri 05-Aug-22 19:01:53

I vowed not to eat pigs.

CanadianGran Fri 05-Aug-22 18:59:11

For me it is texture - lumpy items in sauce, like cottage cheese, rice pudding, or tapioca. That and soggy or wet bread.

Blondiescot

Is this not just turning into a thread of 'food I don't like' rather than can't eat?

But isn't that what the OP's asking for, and what most of us have replied to?

I don’t mean foods we have decided to eliminate from our diets for health reasons but genuine nauseating dislikes!

That certainly describes a whelk for me!

lovebeigecardigans1955

Very strong 'real coffee'
Very strong cheese, plus the blue type
Dark chocolate
Vodka
Fry's Turkish Delight
Gherkins
Curry
Brussels sprouts

Even modest amounts of the first five would give me terrible migraine. The last three I'm simply not keen on.

Gosh that’s like a list of my top 10 foods lovebeigecardigans1955. I’m not keen on vodka, but substitute red wine for that and I’m in food heaven.

shysal Fri 05-Aug-22 16:32:17

Food with chillies or hot spices.

Winterwhite
I couldn’t agree more. I told my grandchildren this many years ago. Very juvenile for adults to use such language.

winterwhite Fri 05-Aug-22 15:32:41

Rice pudding
Gravy

When the DDs were children I forbade them to say yuk about anything anyone else was about to eat or considering eating. This thread reminds me what an unpleasant word I find it. (Sorry to those who are quite happy with it.)

Offal - that slight smell of urine which kidneys have is disgusting
Oysters - I only ate them for the first time a few years ago. Double yuck
