EVRI Scam, a warning!

At 1am this morning, I heard my phone beeping, on checking this morning I saw it was a message from EVRI, telling my my courier, "Kevin", had been unable to deliver a parcel.

1.Our courier is not called Kevin
2.Our courier, knows to leave parcels in greenhouse or
with our obliging neighbours.
3.I have the EVRI app, where I can check.
4.4 I am not awaiting any deliveries.
5.EVRI, do not message at 1am, which alerted me to the
fact that the message was sent from another time zone.

My conclusion, this is a SCAM, but a pretty good one, if you are not savvy enough to realise.
In the past two days, I have had messages from Santander and UPS. The scammers are very busy!
Be aware!

I regularly get texts from Royal Mail about undelivered parcels which I delete. I also get scam emails from what appears to be DHL but the logo is a actually BHL

I've been getting those the last few days; also saying there's a delivery charge.

“We understand you have recently been in an accident which was not your fault.”
I either do
“Really? Tell me more. It must have affected my memory as I have no recollection.”
“I know you get paid for doing this and I sympathise with your need to earn money, but lying is a venial sin. Make sure you confess it.”

So many scams about. Never ever click on a link and never ever give your personal details to anyone...your bank will never ask you for this info over the phone by the way. Always think SCAM. Better safe than sorry.

Missed delivery is a common scam to get bank details and should be ignored. I report them to [email protected]

Nannashirlz Tue 09-Aug-22 11:36:07

I’ve had the Santander one the other day as you can see from below one. I’ve reported it. Hopefully you have too the more you report and don’t click on them the more they can block

These scams seem to come in clusters. I've had DPD, Amazon, Primark, DVLA, Apple emails to name a few. It's completely ridiculous. I block them as it's obviously not the actual company.
As for unsolicited phone calls, my husband doesn't hang up and just replies ' give me a second, I'll get them '. He then leaves the phone on the table and continues with his day. Quite quickly they hang up. I had a friend who was scammed by 'BT openreach' and the rigmarole to change things was so time consuming. Thankfully, they didn't get any money.

Alioop Tue 09-Aug-22 11:41:24

I've got them from Royal Mail and DPD deliveries too. It is the way they actually use a name of the delivery person too I think might draw people in more.

I've just had my Instagram account hacked/cloned with the result that anyone who follows me had been asked to follow 'me' again with a slightly different user name and once they do that they are contacted by the scammer as 'me' , and asked for money!
No real detriment to me but a real nuisance and embarrassing too.
I had to message everyone and tell them to ignore or unfollow if they did follow the new account. One friend was asked about a bank transfer....

It is unfortunate but I now treat any emails, texts or calls from someone I don't know as possible scams.

I have received an email from "Santander" saying next time I log into my account I will need to confirm or update my details Since receiving that I have logged into my account (on the Santander website - not via the email) and I have not been asked to update my details so I am assuming it is a scam.

I had a message, supposedly from relatives in Canada, advising me on investing in certain Companies. Knowing they have their own very successful Company I thought it odd so replied 'how lovely to hear from you' whereupon the scammer gave more details of what I should do next. Immediately contacted Canadian family to warn that the accounts had been breached. They all changed their passwords and we didn't get any more scam messages.

Funnily enough, as I have been reading this discussion, a phone call has been made to me, identified by my phone as Domestic & General. I do have appliance insurance with them but no need of contact with them so ignored the call.

I've had the "you've been in an accident" scam in the past, and played them along, finally saying that yes I had had an accident and was it possible to claim for accidents incurred while driving an unmarked police vehicle? The phone was very quickly put down at the other end, to the accompaniment of guffaws of laughter from the police officer who was seconded to our office at the time!

I had an email telling me that my DD didn't work for renewing my TV Licence ... After I at first had a panic.. I thought I did not pay by DD ... and secondly it was not due as I had only been in my new house for 8 months ! and had been staying with my son for 6 months when I didn't need a licence ! Scammer for sure !!! they made a bad choice picking on a alert pensioner !

Saggi Tue 09-Aug-22 12:01:51

I use delivery companies a lot …. been sent scans by Evri…Pist Office…. UPS and DPD…. you’ve gotta recognise the signs , and ignore.

Saggi Tue 09-Aug-22 12:02:32

Pist office …????…post office of course!!

nannypiano Tue 09-Aug-22 12:08:42

At least the "we hear you have had an accident "one seems to have gone away now. I wonder what they will come up with next?

We’ve had the ‘you’ve been in contact with someone who’s tested positive for covid’ and ‘a large amount of money has just been debited from your account’.
The latest tells me my Apple Pay has been suspended. Well, whoopy-doo, I don’t use it.
They’re despicable, aren’t they?

I got the Covid contact at about 11.45 on Saturday night. It looked like an NHS website.
We waited until morning and suddenly DH spotted a spelling mistake. It looked very genuine and wanted my credit card number to send a testing kit.It could have really worried some people. There was a phone number and when DH checked it on the Google site we were told it was a scam number.
I have also been told they are closing my Halifax account if I do not move some money to another part of the system.

This morning I had 3 voicemails from Santander asking to 'enter my pin after the beep'. I simply deleted them. I get lots of calls from Amazon telling me my account has been hacked, also Microsoft Windows, Midland Bank (have never had an account with them), and private healthcare services who claim to be calling on behalf of our NHS Trust to update records and arrange checkups etc. They all get deleted and/or blocked too. Basically if a call, text, voicemail or email is from someone or a number that I don't know I just delete it.

I shop online a lot, so lots of deliveries (one due today), so we know most of our regular couriers. Our Evri man lives just around the corner so if I'm expecting a parcel via Evri I know he'll be here early evening, drop it in then go home. Most of the couriers (except DPD) will use our parcel box if they don't get an answer, and our lovely postman likes to actually see us at least once a week to check we're OK!

Greciangirl Tue 09-Aug-22 12:53:24

Tell them all to F..k of.
So annoying,

Treetops05 Tue 09-Aug-22 12:57:52

We had the bank scam, and if they can find that much money in my bank account...do you think they'd share?? grin

grandtanteJE65 Tue 09-Aug-22 13:00:56

Actually, here both GLS and other parcel services routinely deliver goods before 7 a.m. by sending a text message and leaving the parcel on the front door step, so you might want to check if you order things whether they do the same in the UK.

Right now, I seem to successfully have blocked most of the idiots trying to phone me, but the e-mail scams are flourishing.

One enterprising person keeps sending me e-mails telling me my parcel cannot be delivered until I pay the outstanding postage. I am sure you all know that one.

The amusing point is that the address it is sent from is in what purports to be Chinese characters, but actually aren't, and as we haven't ordered anything from a Chinese based company one glance is enough to identify it as a scam.

Blocking it, and reporting it as phishing seems to make no difference!

Merryweather Tue 09-Aug-22 13:07:07

If it’s an email- always check the sender. It’s never the company they are claiming to be contacting you from.

Tanjamaltija Tue 09-Aug-22 13:11:48

I get e-mails from PayPal (I do not have one) and from Banks where I do not even have accounts, telling me that someone tried to use my account...

I set txt to silent overnight on my mobile, then deal with any overnight messages the next day and we don’t have a landline handset.

I just turn my phone off. Most of the time if I'm honest. I hate the thing.

I had one that said there was unusual activity on my account (they didn’t say which account) when I insisted on knowing where they were calling from they told me to die!

I said they were too late I had died the week before
