EVRI Scam, a warning!

At 1am this morning, I heard my phone beeping, on checking this morning I saw it was a message from EVRI, telling my my courier, "Kevin", had been unable to deliver a parcel.

1.Our courier is not called Kevin
2.Our courier, knows to leave parcels in greenhouse or
with our obliging neighbours.
3.I have the EVRI app, where I can check.
4.4 I am not awaiting any deliveries.
5.EVRI, do not message at 1am, which alerted me to the
fact that the message was sent from another time zone.

My conclusion, this is a SCAM, but a pretty good one, if you are not savvy enough to realise.
In the past two days, I have had messages from Santander and UPS. The scammers are very busy!
Be aware!

And 'you bought your fridge/washing machine over ten years ago. - er, not so.

The latest begins with an overconfident man saying, 'this is a courtesy call ... ' I put the phone down. This, strangely has a local dialling code.

They can spoof phone numbers so the number shown on the display means nothing nowadays.

The ‘ you have been in contact with someone who has Covid seems to be doing the rounds. You are then directed to a very authentic looking NHS website ( no obvious spelling mistakes) and offered a test for £0.99, of course you have to give your bank details ... didn’t risk it !

Got a message supposedly from my iCloud account asking me to update payment details.
Well my payment details haven’t changed so,obviously a scam!

I had my Santander account hacked a few weeks ago. They cleared it out and tool the full overdraft too shock

Kevin must be very busy as I got the same text this morning . I now routinely forward all this type of message to 7726
From the ofcom website
But there’s an easy, free service you can use to report suspicious texts or calls you might receive on your mobile. It’s called 7726.

What is 7726?
7726 is a number that most mobile customers using UK networks can text to report unwanted SMS messages or phone calls on a mobile. The number ‘7726’ was chosen because it spells ‘SPAM’ on an alphanumeric phone keypad – that’s a handy way of remembering it.

Two scam calls today. First was 'Microsoft about a problem with my computer'. I told her I don't have a computer except one at work! I'm such a good liar where scammers are involved. Next was someone saying I had appliance insurance - which I don't. I asked which appliance and she said 'washing machine'. I told her my washing machine is nearly 20 years old - true - and she inexplicably rang off!

I've had a few of the 'mum I've got a new phone' texts but I knew it wasn't my daughter's style. She would have phoned not texted for sure.

I nearly got sucked in by a call purporting to be the police who claimed they had arrested someone with cards in my name. They told me to phone my bank to see if my accounts had been accessed. I did but used my mobile as the calls are free! They quickly called back asking why I hadn't phoned my bank, so they were still on the line! Always use a different phone if you can in that sort of situation. If you only have one phone, call someone else first to make sure they have hung up!

I think we are all agreed that scammers are the scum of the earth. I get several scam emails every day mainly about a non existent MacAfee or Norton accounts from someone called Kildare. who has thousands of email accounts with the common inclusion Kildare. everyone gets forwarded to '[email protected]" If anyone knows Kildare is, give him a kick up the b** from me.

Applegran Tue 09-Aug-22 14:45:30

I get "I am the energy advisor for your area......"

Flakesdayout Tue 09-Aug-22 14:52:11

I get lots of calls on my mobile. If i pick up I always say "Good morning/afternoon, extension - (pick a number)- how can I help you" they usually hang up and I can then block. Very occasionally an english voice will ask for me by name so I will say I will check my dialling list and ask who they are. Of course I am not at that number and can then block. A bit of a faff I know but I am blocking lots.

Over the past year, I've had scam emails from most of the delivery companies including Amazon DHL Hermes now Evri. I don't open any of them . I have also noticed that you can't unsubscribe these.

Mirren Tue 09-Aug-22 15:04:45

I thought I had one from Amazon recently. My payment had been declined apparently.
I had not recently ordered anything so deleted it , feeling smug at not being fooled.
Then I got a second one ... and logged into Amazon in my usual way , avoiding clicking any suspicious links.
Good job I did.
I had pre ordered the latest novel by my favourite author and paid for it about 6m ago.
I had changed my payment card since then .
Good job I checked
I am now enjoying my new book !!

Dianehillbilly1957 Tue 09-Aug-22 15:32:59

I had one obviously pretending to be from the Royal mail, saying I'd underpaid postage and I needed to pay so they can deliver, no way, I was not expecting anything. Dirty rotten scammers didn't get to rob my bank account!!

62Granny Tue 09-Aug-22 15:36:23

I keep getting email telling me My car tax payment has failed, our carvis not eligible for tax. ( under 3 years old) but you can easily be caught out.

Taichinan Tue 09-Aug-22 16:22:15

Everyone who knows me knows not to call me on my landline, so if it rings I ignore it. On my mobile I just don't answer unless I recognise the number. If someone wants me they can leave a message! Isn't it it awful that we have to be so suspicious these days! Scammers are the scum of the earth - I shall refer to them as scummers from here on in. Grrr!

queenofsaanich69 Tue 09-Aug-22 17:44:43

Apparently now scammers can connect to local phone numbers if you have answered their call,we have had several from local area numbers,we are in Canada.

Nannabumble70 Tue 09-Aug-22 20:48:06

Send to 7226 (spells scam) and/or
[email protected]
so these criminals can be investigated and not be used to scam others.

SachaMac Tue 09-Aug-22 21:04:06

I’ve had the I cloud & Microsoft password ones, also had messages pertaining to be from Royal Mail re a parcel, latest one is from BBC I player saying I have requested a password change, which I haven’t. I just delete but so annoying that they can get hold of your details so easily.
I’ve also had some dodgy calls on my mobile so ignore all now unless I know who it is. This can backfire though as one unknown caller turned out to be one of my mums carers urgently trying to get hold of me, I did eventually answer that, luckily.
It’s such an intrusion and you only have to get fooled once for your bank account to be wiped out!! They just keep coming up with new scams and no one seems to be able to do anything about it. I will text details to the scam no in future though.

I have ask, tho I'm sure this will cause amusement. What is White Goods insurance? On this side of the pond, it would amount to insuring your sheets, pillow cases, tablecloths, etc.

Mollygo Tue 09-Aug-22 21:50:56

White goods- Washers, driers, fridge freezers etc. where I come from.

GreenGran78 Tue 09-Aug-22 22:52:44

We are becoming so used to thinking 'scam' that it must make life very difficult for genuine callers. I used to enter a lot of competitions, and was usually phoned if I won a prize. Nowadays it would be a nightmare, deciding if it was a genuine call, or not.

My friend in Australia has had her Facebook account hacked many times. She is always clicking and commenting on dubious Facebook posts, and I'm sure that there's a connection.

LuckyFour Wed 10-Aug-22 08:40:30

I rarely buy things on line so don't get deliveries. I prefer to go to shops and choose what I want and pay and bring it home. Old fashioned perhaps but I don't get scammed from parcel delivery companies and the like.

PamQS Thu 11-Aug-22 13:07:55

Septimia

I'm fed up with the calls about insurance on my white goods. I don't have any and don't want any, but they keep phoning (and changing the number so i can't block it!).

I put the phone down on the last one. It was clear he had an unbeatable script!

Shill29 Tue 23-Aug-22 10:16:08

We used to get a lot of nuisance phone calls from various people but now we have call guardian on our phone we don’t get any.

Shill29 Tue 23-Aug-22 10:17:16

Washing machines, fridges etc

eazybee Tue 23-Aug-22 10:49:51

I had a text from evri telling me they had' failed to deliver my parcel' at the same time as I received an email from them telling me the parcel had arrived in the distribution centre and would be delivered tomorrow, which it was.
