Good morning all from sunny South Lanarkshire.

I’m loving this weather, I know so many of you definitely aren’t but it has lifted my spirits so much.

Yesterday was so lovely, we spent the afternoon with DS including a walk along the beach where daft dug actually behaved really well off lead, staying close to us and coming back immediately when called if she did wander off. Proud mama grin. I’ve never seen Portobello beach so busy though.

Marydoll the road works are horrendous just now, they’re digging up the world, or at least our corner of it, it seems.

Glad your performance was a success Ashcombe, I love the buzz in the theatre when the audience are engaged.

This is a doing nothing day, reading in the garden will be the size of it.

Have the best day possible everyone. sunshine?

GrannySomerset Thu 11-Aug-22 08:44:53

Marvellous picture, Marydoll, after a memorable day. Today will need to be a recovery day, never mind the carpet which will still be there tomorrow.

Hair dresser due, this morning but nothing else planned, but staying cool is top of the agenda. Hope everyone can stay cool - we are in the hot bit of the country for this heatwave and I am not looking forward to,it.

Gingster Thu 11-Aug-22 08:45:00

Good morning all and I’m bracing myself for the heat. ?.
I walked little pooch early and it was lovely and cool.

What a lovely day you had with little Dolly MD. Shame about the travelling . We have lots of road closures here and it’s very frustrating. ?.

I had a very nice lunch with DIL’s mum yesterday. We then walked into town and got 6 bunches of flowers for £10 from the market. They sell them off towards the end of the afternoon.
Last evening I went to the Choir Social evening. What a lovely jolly time we had with a gorgeous buffet, singers, musicians and poets. One lady recited a poem she had written about herself after suffering a stroke , leg amputated, and a broken hip, 3 years ago. Wow what an inspiration she was! Smiling, singing and laughing her way through !. Bless her lovely heart ❤️.

Today eldest gd is coming and we are going to Clay Cottage to make a piece of pottery and paint it. I took her when she was little and she loves a ‘trip down memory lane’.

Hoping you all have a good day, happy holidays , trips out or just relaxing in the shade at home. ?

monk08 Thu 11-Aug-22 08:47:33

Good morning all from the Black country.
Small shop at Aldi see what's new in then I may do some ironing.
We had a 2hr power cut yesterday apparently there had been an explosion at the sub station, wonder if they will put that down to the heat.
Meeting our friend whose birthday was yesterday later.
Safe travels those on the move, best wishes to anyone celebrating and virtual hugs where needed.
Enjoy your Thursday and may you all find some ?

Good morning everyone. It looks bright again out although the last couple of days which started out cooler and cloudy (lovely) became hot and sunny so I expect today will too.

I had adventures yesterday. I had to go to the Podologista for a check on my on my new orthotics. Obviously I told her that I was still having problems with something causing a very painful area under my heel. She said that I needed new trainers with a definite heel rather than my old ones which started off flat and are now rather lopsided. After phoning three different shops she sent me to the third to try on shoes there. I’ve bought some but am having grave doubts now. I feel like a top heavy Minnie Mouse in them. Everywhere from my neck downwards aches today because they have altered my stance completely. I’m determined to persevere, at least until Monday when I see the physio again. Meanwhile it’s going to be little and often spells of wearing them. I did also buy a pair of far more frivolous sandals in the sale just to have to something cooler to wear as well. I’ll try to post a photo in a minute.

dustyangel Thu 11-Aug-22 08:57:39

The sandals are totally flat as well as being a bit more flowery than I wanted but hopefully it will be good for me to adjust my balance each time. I really hope my lovely physio doesn’t say that they’re a waste of money.

Good morning Mick and all from Sunnyside northwest coast.
Thanks heavens I’m home today, I didn’t even unpack my suitcase yesterday as had a practice with the band and was knackered. So a tidy round too and a look at some awkward corners in the songs.
Had my tower fan on all night, blow the expense and can’t sleep without a duvet.
Hope you all have a good day and thoughts to anyone with troubles.

Good morning all,

It’s starting to get hot again in South Yorkshire.

I’ve got my Pilates class this morning and pleased that the room faces away from the sun in the morning, so it’s cooler.

I’ve not read all the posts yet, so will come back to read them when I’ve finished my class.

Whatever your plans, enjoy your day and remember to drink plenty of water.

? to those of you with worries or Ill health.

Take care.

Good morning Mick and everyone from a very sunny and warm Carlisle.
Only gentle housework today and I think I'll leave the garden alone, it's too hot for digging holes and I had the hose on my new plantings yesterday evening. I have a trip to the dentist this afternoon to check my extraction is healing properly this time. I have another worrying tooth next to it I need her to look at as well.
I've been stressed out since yesterday evening when I discovered that my train company has axed most of its trains from this weekend (thanks to another thread on GN for this info, I don't know when Avanti would have informed me). The new timetable hasn't been released yet so I don't know if my train is cancelled or not...I travel on Wednesday! My ticket covers me on other trains but presumably there are no seat reservations.
I'm having nightmares of struggling up and down a crowded train with my heavy suitcase trying to find a seat. DiL2 faces the same problem, she arrives on Sunday and goes back the same day as me. I have been waiting nearly 3 years for this holiday, postponed time and again due to covid. I am thoroughly fed up with strikers, train companies and government, all intransigent in my view. Rant over!

Have a good day all of you.

Best wishes to all

Good morning Mick and everyone. It’s another sunny morning in this corner of Lancashire, currently 28°C.

Just popping in, I have to run as I need to go out this morning. Will read your posts when I get back.

Have the best day possible all ???

GrannyGravy13 Thu 11-Aug-22 09:42:53

Morning all from a very hot & sunny holiday house, I think it will be a Beach Day for the sea breeze, lots of Factor 50 on the GSs.

Chrissielou Thu 11-Aug-22 09:54:33

Blue sky, hot sunshine and high temperatures here again today. The tomatoes are ripening quickly but the hanging baskets look a bit stressed, despite watering them thoroughly. DH walked dog very early again but it was very warm by 7am when they returned.
DD1 had her penultimate chemo session yesterday and had a long catch up with Dr and specialist diabetic nurses to discuss horrible side effects, all of which are worsening, but normal at this stage in the treatment.

aggie Thu 11-Aug-22 10:31:24

Good morning everyone from a sunny Co Armagh , I have the awning out but the sun sneaks in by the sides , it does keep the living room bearable
Baubles my Daughter and Granddaughters were swimming at Portabello yesterday and she told me it was “ rammed” ! They say the water is colder there than Connemara last week

Kalu Thu 11-Aug-22 10:39:39

Good morning all from Glasgow where I enjoyed an alfresco coffee in the shade. We have a sunny 20deg.

We had a lovely afternoon on Tuesday with DD1 and the girls to celebrate GD2’s 17th birthday plus huge congratulations to her when she told us her exam results which had arrived earlier in the morning. By early evening I noticed DH was having breathing problems which resulted in calling the ambulance service who arrived in 40mins.DH was attended to very quickly resolving the issue but the decision was made to admit him for 24hr obs. I eventually returned home less worried but shattered at 3.30am. He is now home and doing well thankfully. Phew!

Our roads are similar here too Marydoll with redirected traffic signs all over the place. I do know exactly which detour road you took! Two saving graces, you had a wonderful day with Darling Dollie and……you got yet another bargain. ?. Rest up in the shade today.

I envy your trip to Dragonfly. We enjoyed overnight crossings from Newcastle to IJmuiden for a few days break in Holland. Have a good journey and a wonderful catch up during your stay.

Best wishes to all for a good day and in other cases, a better day.

joyce6135 Thu 11-Aug-22 10:42:30

Morning all, five days of mid thirties predicted for here, then rain for most of next week ( yes please! ), so will be having a quiet lazy day today wherever I can find a cool spot. Have the best day you can.smile

SunshineSally Thu 11-Aug-22 10:43:49

Good morning all from sunny South Hants, currently 25 degrees but will be moving to 32 degrees later! ?
Took the pooch for his walk this morning whilst it was cooler (19 degrees) so lovely to find soft green grass rather than our hard, white parched back garden!

Hoping my glasses will be ready today though the optician has not contacted me yet to say they’re in. It’s been 2 weeks though and they demanded all the money up front. Do I really look that ‘dodgy’?! ?

Not much planned for today although I will do some hoovering - the animals are moulting (or should that be ‘melting’) in this heat! ??‍⬛

I may have to succumb to wearing another kaftan (and little else!) - although yesterday I did that and a friend that I hadn’t seen for ages popped round!! ? Cue red face - but we had a good laugh about it especially when she said she intended to do the same when she got home! ??

Hugs and ? for everyone x

Good morning from another sunny day in Oxfordshire.

Shopping due to arrive soon, then an afternoon of baking. MzOops and family are back tomorrow to pick up the dog and will require food to take home, always preferring home baked rather than cheap and easy from the stores!

Another day of doing very little. 2 funerals to go to soon, is it horrid of me to hope that they choose a cool day? As we have to travel down to Southampton area, cool would be nice.

Anyway, I shall miss the dog walks at 6 am (not) but it is lovely and cool then.

Love to all, hope you all have a lovely day.

Auntieflo Thu 11-Aug-22 11:11:48

Good morning Mick, Annie and all. Hot and melting here doing nothing.
I did a test this morning and am still Positive. Seem to have a head cold and all muzzed up. Sore throat has gone, but still feels odd. I do have a bit more energy though, which is good. So, if I feel so inclined, I may try and defrost one of the freezers. If I can get everything into one, then I can look for another Frost Free one, maybe a bigger one?
Both of them are upright, but not frost free and now I need an easier life. ?
Our neighbour is a star and is doing a bit more shopping for us today.
Trying out the new washing line this morning. Gosh, how we do live it up here.
GrandMattie, you are a lovely , kind friend ? enjoy your lunch.
What a journey you had Marydoll, but sounds as though you and Dollie had a lovely time, even if MrMD didn't.
Your play sounds as though it is getting a good response Ashcombe. Well done to all the cast and crew.
Sending loving thoughts to your DD Chrissielou. It is a gruelling time for her. Also to Ginster's DD , who is going through treatment.
Feel envious of your dresses BlueSapphire, they sound just the thing.
To all who are off on holiday, safe journeys. And to anyone who is under the weather, best wishes that you soon feel better.
Have a good day one and all.

hulahoop Thu 11-Aug-22 11:18:48

Gwenisgreat1 Thu 11-Aug-22 13:10:41

Good morning all from sunny Harrogate
Was watching the Repair Shop last night and the ladies were renovating a doll called Mary which they referred to as Marydoll they even made her a new dress!! I wonder who it reminded me of?
I am waiting just now for my delivery from Sainsburies I don’t envy these delivery drivers in this heat! 22 degrees just now. Will probably have a quiet day in today, it’s too hot to go out!!
Safe journeys for those travelling
Have the best day possible folks

Pittcity Thu 11-Aug-22 13:48:22

Reading through some of your posts, it's easy to see the weather divide.
Sitting in the shade in 20° or worrying about delivery drivers in 22°.....I'd kill for those temperatures...it's 28 here and rising!!!!

Mapleleaf Thu 11-Aug-22 14:16:49

I think that might be a typo on Gwens post, Pittcity, as Harrogate isn’t so very far from me and it’s 30 degrees here now. ?
