What are those habits or behaviours that you can't get rid of for your own good?

I'll start

My toxic trait: I wonder if that food that always gives me a bad stomach will give me a bad stomach today?

No toxic traits or habits either Fanny and Meryl.

^I have traits. But none are toxic.
I’m not a crack addict or an abuser of animals for example.
To label perfectly normal behaviours as toxic isn’t helpful to anyone.
Eating disorders thrive on this sort of nonsense^

I agree with you; I think perhaps the wrong adjective was used; toxic seems to be an often inappropriately used word these days. Maybe "guilty pleasure" would be better?

TerriBull Fri 12-Aug-22 17:10:42

I don't know whether this is a toxic trait but I know I get so angry with myself for mislaying both phone and reading glasses for the umpteenth time, sometimes I find my phone then I realise I can't find my glasses so can't see anything on my phone anyway. I once went off to look for glasses to read something on my phone and then couldn't find the phone again. I've lost days of my life possibly months looking for both these items .

Ah well I do have a few 'guilty pleasures' Chewbaccagrin.

Lol I can completely relate to this

VioletSky Fri 12-Aug-22 17:25:12

I've got another one

I am absolutely certain I will definitely remember this password and don't need to write it down anywhere

Yammy Fri 12-Aug-22 17:33:05

I can't resist picking the first chip out of a dish and eating it with my fingers. I've even done it when out in company.{blush]
The other when DH makes espresso coffee if no one is looking I scrape the crema out of the cup. Oh and I scoop the froth off the top of cappuccinos with a spoon. One I share with GD is we both eat the crusts from sandwiches and then eat the bread and filling. My DD gets disgusted with us both.
When little I used to irritate my mum on purpose by biting my toenails. Not a nice child.

Chewbacca Fri 12-Aug-22 17:33:29

I'm exactly the same TerriBull

Does licking the yoghurt lid count?

FannyCornforth Sat 13-Aug-22 18:05:07

DanniRae

Does licking the yoghurt lid count?

You should always proffer that to the dog.

Chewbacca Sat 13-Aug-22 19:20:59

You should always proffer that to the dog

I'd offer it to the cat FannyC but that really would be toxic! grin

VioletSky Sat 13-Aug-22 19:27:54

Only if licking it would harm you.

For example

I will always stuff a far too hot chip in my mouth, thinking I can blow it cool and eat it at the same time, even though the outcome is generally a blister on the roof of my mouth.

Ouch

DanniRae Sun 14-Aug-22 09:20:13

I think I should explain that I might lick the yoghurt pot lid but the dog always gets to lick out the pot after I've finished. To be honest I didn't mention about that incase someone jumped on and said "Dogs should not have yoghurt - it is bad for them!!" There's nearly always someone who has to let you know that what your doing is wrong, isn't there? hmm

Mollygo Sun 14-Aug-22 09:36:16

DanniRae, if only dogs could read. I worried the first time my dog managed to get my empty yogurt pot and went off to lick the contents. I also wish she understood that gnawing stones is bad for her teeth!
There's nearly always someone who has to let you know that what your’re doing is wrong, isn't there?
Oh yes. ??

FannyCornforth Sun 14-Aug-22 11:17:18

Don’t worry! Yogurt is far from bad for dogs.
The woman who I had Gracie from had a strict regime of feeding all of her puppies natural yogurt and boiled eggs.
And I was under strict instructions to follow it for a few weeks. (She was lovely, but a bit scary!)
Gracie still likes yogurt, but she won’t touch a boiled egg for love nor money.
And who can blame her!

HousePlantQueen Sun 14-Aug-22 11:28:04

My problem/toxic habit is thinking I have self control. Example; I will buy this family size bag of crisps because it is cheaper than individual bags/less waste etc., and will just decant them into a little bowl when I fancy some. Yeah right. I grab a handful every time I pass the larder. But, I do know that if they are eaten furtively, when nobody sees them the calories, fat and salt don't count.

nanna8 Sun 14-Aug-22 11:36:45

The main use for our landline is to ring our mobiles so we know where they are! Seriously. I wouldn’t use the word, ‘toxic’, for this particular topic but I guess that is just semantics.

Mollygo Sun 14-Aug-22 11:47:13

Thanks Fanny. She still only gets the pot or the lid to lick. I like natural unflavoured yoghurt, except for prune or rhubarb.

icanhandthemback Sun 14-Aug-22 12:15:17

DanniRae and MollyGo, the one thing I've missed following the loss of my dog, is putting clean yogurt pots in the bin. It sounds really stupid but that act of handing over the pot to the dog every morning was a great start to my morning. 8 months on, it still jolts me so I have a new puppy coming next week who is going to have such fun with the yogurt pot.

DanniRae Sun 14-Aug-22 12:38:02

Oh icanhandthemback how lovely that you are getting a new puppy - I wish you much happiness with your new arrival! And I hope he/she likes yoghurt grin

Bellanonna Sun 14-Aug-22 12:43:51

Another here who thoroughly empathises, TerriBull. It’s maddening, isn’t it?!
nanna8, I do that almost daily! It’s a problem if the phone is on silent though. I then have to resort to the Find my Phone app.

Chewbacca Sun 14-Aug-22 12:48:04

Oh icanhandthemback, how exciting; he's beautiful! Have you chosen a name for him yet?

icanhandthemback Sun 14-Aug-22 12:53:32

Chewbacca

Oh icanhandthemback, how exciting; he's beautiful! Have you chosen a name for him yet?

Thank you, he was. I should have said that he was my old boy. This is the new Pup coming next week who I haven't got a name for. She is a Tibetan Terrier so about half the size of my old boy. I think I'm too frail for such a big boy these days.

VioletSky Sun 14-Aug-22 13:09:09

Oh my goodness, adorable

I am a cat person, I keep adopting them thinking I will get a friendly lap cat and getting cats that have medical needs or trauma that needs lots of care instead...

Please don't start me thinking I can add a puppy to the mix lol

FannyCornforth Sun 14-Aug-22 13:18:03

icanhandthemback Hurray! ?
There’s nothing more exciting than a new puppy!
Tibetan dogs are the best (imho)
My first dog was a Tibetan Spaniel, as was Gracie’s father.
You must keep us informed!
