Oh good. Just discovered he's going to help us all discuss the menopause. What joy!
Not wolves just women. What do we know though? Thank goodness we've got a man to explain everything.
Oh, Martina knows all about what happens in Scottish regions.
Dear Leader? Woke is she?
Honest to goodness, the slightest thing and the wolves are out. Did any of you actually know what his job involves before you launched into the tirade? I'm going to guess not.
I expect that he has been appointed because he has the necessary project management skills. It has nothing to do with the SNP government this time apart from their policy to provide free sanitary products. In my young day, I would have welcomed those little baskets of tampons and towels that I see in toilets these days. It is a good thing.
At least the Dear Leader has
Plus of course that scotgov has gone total woke.
That’s interesting, Gbatty. I assumed ScotGov (that is, we taxpayers) are funding it? If not who is? That was the only scotgov connection I was thinking of.
This is nothing to do with Scot gov. An all women team from Tayside picked him to lead them as the most qualified in project management.

I've been wondering where you were and now you're back! ☺
Why are some people so ready to blame the SNP for everything that has (or is alleged to have) happened in Scotland? I think the answer to my own question is that they watch Unionist BBC News and read Unionist newspapers.
*NB all Newspapers in Scotland are pro the Union, with the notable exception of The National.
I have seen the products supplied free, discreetly in a basket in a restaurant, a café and at the University. Why is this so strange when all such toilets supply bins, hand wash, toilet paper and paper towels for the comfort of their customers?
Surely they could have come up with a better job title. Period Dignity Officer sounds wrong.
Here's the job description :
Working in partnership across the Tay Cities Region to aid in the implementation of the Period Product Act, this post aims to coordinate and streamline the approach to Period Dignity across Perth & Kinross, Dundee and Angus. The Lead Officer will provide outstanding project leadership and management for a range of activities, events, and outcomes. This will include engaging with staff, partners, communities and young people in developing and delivering a campaign that stretches across our regions, raising awareness and understanding of the Period Product Act and the expanse of work happening in our respective communities
Energy, enthusiasm and excellent interpersonal skills are needed, backed up with a qualification at degree level and a successful track record of engaging and empowering a large range of people from a diverse range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, in particular young people who menstruate.
Experience of successful working with a wide range of stakeholders, to deliver project outcomes and enhanced opportunities for young people, clients or others is needed, coupled with evidence of devising and delivering marketing and promotional campaigns to reach various audiences.
The ability to communicate and confidently present complex information to a range of audiences which include oral, written and presentation skills is a key feature of the role, as you will be answerable to partners across the Tay Cities.
Strong organisational, administrative, IT and team working skills are also essential, in particular the ability to set up and fully administer various social media platforms for maximum impact.
You will be required to work over Angus, Tayside and Perth, in different environments including outreach and community based.

He's officer for Tay region, not all of Scotland, so not the responsibility of SNP or the Scottish Government.

... not quite the same thing - but relevant.
The most sympathetic and understanding medical professional I ever consulted over my 'elderly-lady-gynaecological-problems' was a very young male doctor. He was attentive, empathetic - and made sure I got the treatment I desperately needed.
Why any country should need a 'Period Dignity Officer ' is beyond me.

Re the "young people who menstruate" nonsense.... well, ScotGov has gone full woke so what do you expect?
The best rule about what words to us is the use the fewest possible, so on that score alone "girls" or "women" are far better than anything else
... and it's ScotGov because?
Oh dear ,are we to expect the rerun of women against male nurses on female wards, male midwives...I well remember an outcry about them ...after all how can a MAN have knowledge or empathy about labour and birth? What about MALE gynaecologists ...they OK ? To be honest the best gynaecologists I have had ...and I've had a fair few have ALL been men ,they have been respectful and professional ,no naked from the waist with legs akimbo as I was with the woman gynaecologists I saw in the mid 70's who misdiagnosed me leading to a lost pregnancy .
IF the best person for the job is a man whats the issue ? Its the 21st century WHY is this problem?

At least Scotland is doing something about the scandal of period poverty - good for them. What difference does it make if the person in charge is male or female? I always had a rule of ‘best person for the job’ when making appointments and it never failed me.
Glad to see you back !
words to use, not us

So long as women don't have to speak to him about their needs, but can speak to a woman, then I don't have a problem with the appointment. He's just heading the 'business' side, I would think, dealing with the logistics of getting supplies to where they are needed and so forth.
I do agree that at first sight, having a man in this post feels a bit odd.
Maybe they couldn't find a woman who was prepared to take on a job where the words female/woman are not to be found in the job description Ailidh.
I was even more annoyed to read part of the job description which said that the post holder would "engage and empower a large range of people.....including *young people who menstruate*"- that would be "*girls*", then?

Any credibility the SNP might have had has now gone straight out the window with this ludicrous appointment ! I have to question also the waste of money that goes with said appointment ?
What does it have to do with the SNP?
