Do you wear a practical pinny about the house?

I do wear one occasionally for cooking depending on what I'm wearing the thread reminded me of how my mam always wore an overall usually nylon with pockets .My sister has just made herself a half pinny with a pocket as she is forever missing phone calls so she pops her mobile in it when she is in the garden hanging out washing or doing outside jobs

PVC one when doing frying, bashing steak - messy cooking. Kneeler pads for gardening. Special tee shirt for cleaning bathroom (I can be over generous with the bleach). We had to make them in first year of secondary - had to unpick, my stitches not tiny enough! How to take the joy out!

Yes, I wear one for washing up and sometimes for other tasks as do my 60+ young neighbours - in fact, a (male) neighbour recently told me he like my pinny! It’s a quite colourful Aztec design but I still found it funny as it’s the first time he’s ever commented on what I was wearing ?

I wear one one when cooking and baking - there are always splatters and splashes. If I remember, I wear one when bleaching & cleaning the loo, for the same reason - bleach splashes spoil clothing so easily.

Absolutely yes for cooking! Not only saves ruining clothes but a good quality cotton cover all can save from some devastating injuries!! I once slipped with a pan of spuds and tipped boiling water down my front, it simply skidded off the pinny I was wearing and landed on floor, got wet feet and bit sore but could have been serious scalding.once out of kitchen-ot comes off!I remember grandma wearing a beech tree pinny all time, loved it and wanted one too with pockets to put my"stuff" in as little girl with a collecting habit!!

I’m a messy cook so always wear one for cooking. A full apron rather than a waist one. Years ago my dad worked in a department store and at Christmas they had a special counter for selling pinnies as they were so popular!

When I’m baking, & sometimes cooking. But one of the modern type, like a BBQ/butchers type, feminine & pretty.. as I’m a lady ;)

I don't but I should. I have a couple of those plastic wipeable ones that last forever. When my children were small - decades ago - I wore them. When I get them out now my girls get sentimental over them.
If I eat out I often tuck the serviette ( I cannot bring myself to say napkin ) into my neck - Poirot style, because I am a messy eater. Any food seems to find the gap whatever I am wearing.
I do like the idea of tabards. Practical.

You are absolutely not alone. I love an apron , always have done. My Mum and Nans used to wear them so maybe that’s why I have an affinity to them.
They are good for mopping away little ones tears too .

No don't own one. But I do have a large plastic one I found in the car left over from when I worked on home care. Will use it if I ever bath the dog but OH always does that lol

Funny you should ask. I just bought one! I wear a plastic one at home for dog bathing. I bought a fabric one for our caravan as the kitchen tap is a pain as it spurts water all over the place when turned on! I got a handmade one in a charity shop. The lady there said that she wears one at home but she knows it is quite unusual these days. I suppose if you are doing really messy housework an overall is more practical.

I wear one for cooking. I have a few as my friend makes them to order.
My favourite is one with Border Collies all over it. I also have one with spring flowers.
My dil and dgd have matching bee ones, frilly as in 50's style. They love them.

I wear an apron when cooking.

Many of you on here talk about getting mess on your apron when you spill stuff on it or wipe your mucky hands on it. I have the solution!!! I saw these in a shop in Turkey and have made my own since then. Get your apron and fix either 2 buttons on either side of the front of the apron or sew / glue some velcro. Get an old towel or scrap of material and make 2 button holes or put the 'other part' of the velcro on it. I position mine just below the bust - the piece of material is about the size of a large flannel - then when you have made a mess, simply undo the piece of material and throw it in the wash and just attach another piece. I have 2 aprons (don't really know why) and 4 'pieces' - you can colour co-ordinate or not, it's up to you.

No pinny but I do have designated clothes for housework etc. As a retired nurse who wore aprons in the early years I think they’re impractical and just get in the way

I should. Most of my old clothes have bleach stains.

I wear a seaman’s smock in the garden — those big pockets are so useful.

I wear them every day ,,,would not be without one …as to say they are old fashioned and dated ??the shops are full of them ..they are popular and protect clothes ,better still if there are pockets ,where you can place dusters etc and collect small items left lying around

No. Think it's more a throw back to years gone by when folks didn't wash their clothes as often. And more clothes had to be hand washed.

Never! My mother used to insist that I wore one when helping in the house, which made me determined never to do so when I left home (along with never again wearing a vest!)

I would want to wash the pinny if it got dirty, so I might just as well wash the clothes I wear.

Shysal you must be my sister! I haven't worn an apron or vest since childhood......or fawn socks......or anything made of Bri-nylon!

Or a Liberty bodice and garters to keep your socks up. Bri nylon sheets ugg. DH 's mother bequeathed his student ones to me they were like netting he must have smoked in bed and melted them, I nearly put them on the bed on her first kit inspection.

If I'm doing something messy. I have a collection of pinnies, including my mother's old pinny. Also the kids' school aprons.

*Nanarose*, I’m one of those who can’t walk and talk at the same time. Had no difficulty learning to read but my handwriting was appalling and slow. One of the things people don’t realise about dyspraxia is how tiring it can be.

Depends, only if cooking and then plain white full apron, would fall on my ( kitchen) sword before wearing a waist apron, or worse still one of those floral tabard type monstrosities
