Do you wear a practical pinny about the house?

PVC one when doing frying, bashing steak - messy cooking. Kneeler pads for gardening. Special tee shirt for cleaning bathroom (I can be over generous with the bleach). We had to make them in first year of secondary - had to unpick, my stitches not tiny enough! How to take the joy out!

I do wear one occasionally for cooking depending on what I'm wearing the thread reminded me of how my mam always wore an overall usually nylon with pockets .My sister has just made herself a half pinny with a pocket as she is forever missing phone calls so she pops her mobile in it when she is in the garden hanging out washing or doing outside jobs

Only if I'm doing a lot of baking.

I have always worn one for really messy jobs like cleaning copper and brass and also for baking.

Now I have gone back to wearing one for washing up and cooking too, as there is no doubt about it, my other clothes do stay presentable for a couple of days more when protected by a pinny.

Confession time.
I don't wear an apron when preparing food etc, but, as I live on my own, I eat most meals from a tray on my lap whilst watching the TV.
That's when I wear an apron; needless to say , it needs washing VERY frequently.

I wear a very “funky” apron our granddaughters gave both my husband and I. Mine says “Nonna crating delicious food for everyone! YUM”.

Yes. Started wearing my good clothes instead of keeping for best, so as long as i'm cooking, doing houseqork etc. i'll have a pinny on. I make them myself - bib aprons tied at the back.

I just wear one when I'm cooking at times.

I absolutely LOVE an apron. I have a drawer full. My favourites are from Seasalt, but I also have some lovely ones bought for me as presents, from Etsy. I like heavier cotton aprons, and don’t get on at all with the PVC lined ones. Cath Kidston do some nice ones too.

I wear an apron most of the time at home, unless I am feeling very hot.

The family all know I love an apron or a pair of slippers for a present.

Kittylester, you really made me smile! I don’t own a pinny, perhaps I should invest, I’d kind of forgotten about them. My DH inevitably spills food down his front and I’m threatening him with a pelican bib as I’m the one trying to remove stains. Vanish solid soap is brilliant, had it for ages, hope they still make it, much more effective than the spray.

I wear a pinny when I am cooking. It just seems practical to me. I don't remember my mother ever wearing one. One of my grandmothers wore the Hilda Ogden type ones. My other GM wore an apron.

There are some lovely ones around. Ikea also do larger longer ones. I find some of the cheaper ones a bit skimpy.

I wear a plastic backed one when I am bathing the dog.

I have never thought to use one for gardening. I am always putting my secateurs/ twine/ bits and bobs down and 'losing' them. I think a pinny would be too long though as I would be kneeling on it all the time. Any suggestions gratefully received. I can sew and would be happy to make my own

I think Sarah Raven wear one of those wrap around pinnies and sells them on her website

Not since learning to cook at school in the 70s, I hate them, and constantly caught the straps on draw pulls etc.

I have two. One is a Chrismaasy one the other a pvc. I wear them when baking or when doing something messy like chopping beetroot or frying eggs.

I always wear an apron when cooking. Saves my clothes. I have 3. 1 for that day, 1 in the wash and 1 hanging as a spare. I like the wrap around butchers style which allows me to wipe my hands regularly. My clothes therefore don't get oil splashes or other stains that can prove difficult to get out of my lovely clothes.

I do, started really after my first hip operation and seeing as I live on my own, my sister insisted that I kept my mobile phone with me at all times. Seeing as I didn't - and still don't - always have pockets available, I started with the aprons which have pockets. I now have a variety of plain and patterned ones which are very handy and still worn quite a lot. I even had to go and buy one when I was on a self-catering holiday last year as I forgot to take one with me .

Always wear one when in kitchen. Why ruin decent clothes when cooking? Agree it's an age thing. My older neighbours wear them, younger neighbours do not.

I do have one but don't wear it. Given the amount of spots and splashes I gather on plain tee-shirts when cooking I think I should.

I have several aprons but I don't wear them very often. My mum used to wear one as did my Grandma's.

I'm disabled and always wear an apron. I like the big pockets (Always put glasses, pen, paper, tv remote and mobile in it. You don't lose things if you do this)

I remember my mum wearing what she called a 'house coat' it buttoned up down the front and had three quarter length sleeves with 2 pockets on the front made of a cotton type of material I think. I don't know if this was instead of a pinny I can't think it would be to keep warm. I may be wrong on that.

My Grandmother wore one, my my mum wore one, I wear one and so does my daughter. I always feel comfortable in an apron and less careful, since I am prone to be messy. I would love a Hilda Ogden style one, although currently I have the butcher’s type. I would never wear a tabard.

Yes, always when I’m cooking. I can’t seem to operate in the kitchen without one!!!
