Good Morning Everyone,
Its a grey sky start with signs of rain in the night here in brackley this morning.
Today , I will do my usual bus trip to Bicester and back , and return to watch the Vuelta on Eurosport this afternoon .
Talking of buses , we are loosing some on the regular route to Banbury with reductions to hourly ,and no evening or Sunday services due to pandemic and staff shortages .
Take Care,
Mick

Good morning all from an autumnal NE Angus coast. Just thought I'd pop in with my occasional contribution. I think it was the mention of thermal undies that did it Lucy - I was fully kitted out in winter garb yesterday and didn't regret it! On Sunday I met up with DD and one DGD in Perth and it was definitely a summer clothes day - such confusing weather. Today the towels which I washed yesterday are out on the whirly in the sunshine - the dark clouds have noticed and are gathering of course! The meeting with DD was to hear all about the holiday in Portugal she and DGDs have just returned from with NewMan. They all had a ball and as usual the Five Teens got along famously. They range in age now from just 15 to almost 19 so times of togetherness like that are probably numbered sadly. Happy memories though. Now, I'm about to use that forbidden word, so close your eyes now if you don't want to see it. My Christmas is sorted! I've been invited to NewMan's and as he doesn't live so very far from DS2 I'll probably see them too. Something to look forward to indeed. And before that I'll be visiting DS2 over my Birthday at the end of September. What a little gadabout I'm becoming! Marydoll you are talking about that part of the world I didn't know existed until DS1 moved there and I made my safari trek from east to west. I'd heard the place names of course, but putting them on a map would have been a problem! Enjoy your day out. Now I must away and do my Wordle to share with DD so she knows all is well here! So lovely to read of all your doings. Enjoy your lunch with your tai chi ladies Grandmattie - what a very amazing lady you are. First a quilt, next the damson jam, and now a lunch. You'll be too tired to talk! Loved your photos of the Bordeaux bridge BlueSapphire. And hugs for you and your DD Kitty. Love and best wishes to all x

Good morning all from sunny Harrogate
Welcome Newbies. Hope to read more of your chat!
Today I hope to go for a spin in the car, maybe stopping at a large supermarket? Leave it to DH which one! This pm I shal have to make some pastry, getting ready for my visitors at the end of next week!
Thanks for the recommendation Sar. I’ve downloaded Winter Garden yesterday so how that goes for the time being.
Have the best day possible folks

Good morning all from W Kent where it is cloudy which is a shame as I was hoping to go to a local garden, rain last night as well.
A friend who visited yesterday has a vote in the leadership contest and spent most of the time telling me why she was voting one way and not the other, I felt exhausted afterwards.
Good wishes to all.

Good morning Mick and everyone. It’s cloudy and dry in my corner of Lancashire, currently 18°C. I didn’t have a very good night so am sat up in bed surrounded by pillows, enjoying my morning tea provided by Mr. B. I realised when I went to take my morning meds I’d neglected to take my amitriptyline last night, hence the aches and pains. Too late to take it now, will have to wait until tonight to take the next dose.

My dentist appointment went well, no problems found, next appointment in February 2023. A good result smile. My new smartphone was activated yesterday, I transferred the number from my old (non smart) phone, which proved to be surprisingly easy. I’ve set up the basics. Now I just have to work out how to get the best out of it, it’s Android and I’m not really used to it. All the basic things are up and running and I found some YouTube videos that I’ll look at today. I struggle with some phones as my vision isn’t good and I have only one fully functioning hand. It’s an Easiphone and is in an armoured case so it should be protected when (not if!) I drop it. I also remembered to order a PIN reminder for my credit card from my bank. I tend to only use it online for convenience, but will want to use it when we are travelling next month. I will have forgotten the pin again by October grin

Hello Farview, nice to see you in here.

Hello and welcome Lucy77. John Lewis have some lovely thermal underwear in lots of colours, but be warned they appear to be made to fit people over 6ft tall!

I am loving seeing photos and hearing about travels, this thread is a window on the world for me smile

Well done on a successful shop Marydoll, I hope today brings more good results. I’d tell you not to overdo it but I know that doesn’t work!

LadyLL have a wonderful meet-up with your fellow GNers.

GrandMattie I will try and find a flamingo pin to wear for when I’m able to get out again, I think that’s a great idea!

Wishing your DD all the best KittyLester

The gentlest of hugs to all who under the weather flowers

Have the best day possible all ???

Good morning Mick and all from. dull northwest coast.
Off to music club this afternoon and then to a production at local theatre tonight. I’ve had to take a clean sheet of paper and write out the week’s plans as I can’t understand my wall calendar. More in hope than anything else, it’s full of stuff I could/might do and the vital things are indecipherable.
Thoughts to Kitty for her DD and anyone else with worries.

Good morning all, it has rained in the night here in Co Armagh , I only know because there is a dry patch out front where a car was parked all night . We were disappointed yesterday that the rainwater butt hadn’t gathered as much water as we thought !
In spite of doing the grocery shop yesterday I found that I am low on bananas and milk ! I’ll have to see if I can contact a grandson to go to the local shop for me !

dragonfly46 Tue 23-Aug-22 09:18:00

Hope your DD's chemo goes well today and it is not as fierce as the first ones.

Good morning Mick, morning all from damp South Lanarkshire.

Our once a day bus service into the city didn’t survive the pandemic Mick, we don’t have a railway station either so it’s a bit of a faff getting anywhere by public transport.

Sending best wishes for your DD Kitty.

NannyJan what a pity, I hope you can persuade your Mum to go out today.

Fabulous photos Blue.

We didn’t go far yesterday after all due to the inclement weather, just to M&S to return a couple of things. No idea what today will bring, will wait & see if we fancy going out somewhere, sometimes I feel as if I’m living a lockdown life again.

Have a lovely day Mattie.

Fankle is such a great word isn’t it MD, nothing else really works as well. smile

Have the best day possible everyone.

Ladyleftfieldlover. Re gransnet meetup. All you have to do is follow the noise. You won't regret it.

For Nan Kate

fankle v. to tangle, mix up; to become tangled; (formerly to trap, ensnare) n. a tangle, muddle. Fankle is a relatively young word in the history of Scots, first appearing in print in the poetry of Allan Ramsay in the eighteenth century.

NannyJan53 Tue 23-Aug-22 08:47:26

Thank you everyone. She is certainly on a declining path, it’s like she has lost interest in anything and is narrowing her horizons . Hoping you will pop into town with me today.

Nannagarra Tue 23-Aug-22 08:45:44

Another poster wishing you good morning from Sefton. It’s cloudy but not currently raining: the “lawn” is beginning to revert to green. A quiet day pottering and pootling is on my agenda.
How I’ve enjoyed your photographs and busyness, your plans and holiday accounts. For those with troubles and worries I send my thoughts.

Grammaretto Tue 23-Aug-22 08:42:17

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders where it's looking like a nice day.
My extended family begin to leave today so last night we sat up singing our favourite songs around the fireside yes truly it was cold enough
Welcome to Lucy and good wishes to the Oxford grans today Ladyleftfieldlover . I've enjoyed several meetups in Edinburgh and in Glasgow. grin
Hope everyone's day goes well.

grandMattie Tue 23-Aug-22 08:38:43

Marydoll

*Ladyfieildlover*, you will have no problem, I can assure you. We gransnetters have a certain look about us and are easy to spot! ?

Perhaps we ought all sport a flamingo pin? Very recognisable then… ?

NanKate Tue 23-Aug-22 08:35:32

Morning Mick and All.

Grey and warm in South Bucks.

GrandMattie I empathise over your sleep problem. You can often find me drinking tea and reading at 03.00, not good.

NannyJ what a great disappointment that your mum was not up to going away with you. I can remember similar problems with my mum and I just felt exhausted with it all.

Fingers crossed for you Kitty I’m sure you will have fun mixed with exhaustion. A chilled glass of wine should help tonight.

Mary I’ve never heard the word ‘fankle’ before. Is it a Scottish saying ?

Taking a 96 year old friend out for coffee, she always looks a million dollars, so I had better make an effort to look smart ?

ShazzaKanazza Tue 23-Aug-22 08:33:25

Hi again.
BlueSapphire your pictures are fab there’s no wonder the captain asked to use them.

Enjoy your meet up ladies.

Kitty sending my love to your DD today ?

Marydoll ? hope you buy some lovely plants. I love that colour of Alstroemeria.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 23-Aug-22 08:31:23

Morning Mick and all

Sorry you are not away NannyJan53 Sandringham is beautiful

Welcome Lucy77

Enjoy your LWW Urmstongran

Yesterday at the beach was good fun, one of our DiL’s brought two paddle boards down and the GC spent hours on them. The two youngest (both 2 yrs old) loved sitting on them and being paddled up and down, fortunately the sea was like a mill pond. ( Sar53 we were on the beach by Uncle Toms Cabin not far from you. )

Today we are off to a nearby Country Park which has had a facelift of all the play equipment with the 7yr old and The Imp.

Enjoy your day ?‍♀️?

Marydoll Tue 23-Aug-22 08:29:05

Kitty, sending my best wishes to you and your daughter,

ginny Tue 23-Aug-22 08:27:47

Good morning.
I’m slow getting started this morning, rather achy Hope to get blood test results today and sort out some pain relief.
DH and I are going out for lunch today after dropping some donations at the food bank. I think we might then go to the cinema to watch Fishermens friends 2.
Nice to see some new posters.
Sorry you didn’t get away with your Mum Nannyjan.
Hope all can enjoy the day with a smile along the way.

Ladyleftfieldlover

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. I’m still in bed so haven’t peeked through the curtains yet. Later, I am looking forward to seven of us Gransnet-ers meeting up for lunch in Oxford! How will we recognise one another!

Fear not! I'll be looking out for you. We are down to six. Unfortunately one of our number has had an accident in the family, so she is unable to join us. If she's reading this, we'll be thinking of you.
See you later folks. Travel safely. smile

Kalu Tue 23-Aug-22 08:23:50

Good luck to your DD kitty, a tough time ahead and hopefully the next 9 weeks go smoothly for her.

Gala Tue 23-Aug-22 08:23:31

Good morning from a thankfully dry Sefton after yesterday afternoon's deluge.

Off into town today to meet with friends for lunch - I wonder why going into the city centre is called "going to town"? Hmm? And going to the shopping centre of the outer suburb where I used to live is "going to the village"? Will go in on the train as our "bus" pass also covers local trains. Very useful.

Take care & have the best possible day.

Gingster Tue 23-Aug-22 08:23:06

Kitty thinking of your daughter today. I hope she responds well to the chemo.?
